Today I started painting something that's been banging around the old noggin for a while now! I've always loved the idea of the Legion of the Damned but as i play a Blood Angels list I don't have an option to field them but why should that stop me! I can either run them as a 10 man bolter death co. squad or I can make another force using them as my theme but running a different list like Vulkan list or Chaos? depends what you guys think i should do?

anyway here they are so far, not finished yet but the basics are done like the flame and bone work.

started by using my standard method for blacks, black undercoat followed by a squirt or two of white then washes of black!

then base coated the browns ready for the bronze and bone work;

next i painted the bone parts on all of them by mixing bleached bone into army painter leather brown and building it up, and painted the flames by starting out with dark red and making smaller flame shapes in progressively lighter colours until I used white to just spot them at the hottest points of the flames this pic also shows the different pads I used throughout to show the more ancient mk's of armour with what I had in my bitz :

also scored my supply drop from Mother Russia I'll build them tomorrow morn and see how they look!

what do ya reckon dudes?

Ive always had an idea of making a cool Legion of the Damned squad in a similar fashion, but I was going to take it a step further. I wanted to hollow out sections of the armor, and then gouge battle damage out in random spots so you could see all the way through, and then add skeleton bits, obviously legs bits in the legs, arms bits in the arms, ribs in the chest piece. I think that would look pretty damned epic!

And your flame jobs look pretty awesome to boot

Thanks. It evolved from the same idea I had for making Thousand Sons but add in "dust piles" from where the armor is blown out. But I swapped it to Legion of the Damned because flames wins over dust anyday

Duuuudes! thanks heaps! :-) they are looking pretty much how i wanted them to at this stage! and the funny thing is I had the same idea as KC!!!! but I'm waiting for a box of wargames skeletons to get here from England! I will have a go at it and post some progress as usual!

the skulls I obtained off ebay for a couple of bucks, you can either get ones like i used or some without lower jaws and even the Mantic ones I used for the old Necrons i started would work a treat, I plan on adding some blasted helmets showing the grinning visage through the cracks :-)

if i can get someone to help me work out a list for them i'll pursue the idea to it's full extent, yep, honest! I want to use my idea for the force commander, think Ghostrider cross with Queek headtaker and various other coolness!

:-)

Sounds very cool, you could do a dread as well with out the sarcophagus front on to show his bony bits.....

I will have a think about a list, what sort of points value are you aiming for?

List wise a small force mainly troop and dreads with some termies, about 1500points would be hella fun to build like this :-) nothing too serious just a cool little force to play with for something different (for me actually playing a game would be different!)

And no KC i'm not going to do a ghostrider pissing flames lol! surely you know who Queek Headtaker is from warhammer fantasy? it's more the pose is inspiring me rather than a giant man rat!

As usual, greetings my friends and i'm pleased you like the LoTD marines so far tomorrow I reckon I should have them finished

Today I thought i'd have a look at those unfamiliar sprues that Dave pointed out a few posts above I bought them from ebay at the huge cost of $3.00 each they just clip together but I built one and glued it to see what it's like, it looks like i can use a few sets to make longer and bigger buildings both ruined and whole! I can see myself obtaining a few more sets soon! would be interesting to create a board based on a pre fabbed settlement like what i imagine some of the settings in the Ultramarines novels look like

here's a couple of images to show you the scale etc. with one of my newest undead friends!

catch ya tomorrow!

Hey hey. I really like those LotD minis you made there. Great thing about skulls with their jaws open is that they always look so happy.

Ruins look great as well. I might have to check those out.

Neat! For $3 each you can't go wrong! You could do an entire ruined city board with those.

Yep, and here's more from the kits i got I managed to make these other ones as well, not bad for an investment of about $12.00 I can totally see a board done like a low settlement of villagers, and the bonus is I can do what i want to them as far as adding graffiti and pro Emperor slogans to make it look 'slummy' for something different

they just clip together with little plastic clips so you can if you want re make them to be any size, i have chosen to run a bead of plastic glue down the gaps to make them a bit stronger for gaming even though the parts are all similar you can get a decent look without making it look too cookie cutter.

These are the other 4 ruins I built:

and here's a pic of all I made from just 4 kits at a cost of $12-
