Wow, that walker tank for RiTides is just amazing! I can't wait to see it in person... and am a little miffed he hadn't shown it to me yet Seriously, RiTides, am I just a prototype factory for you?!

I love the blog over all. I don't comment much, mostly because I am all 40k'd out, but this is one of the 40k blogs I really enjoy looking at.

I am not, sadly :( I have an exam/lecture to give the first day, and all the dissertation writing to do afterwards. I think next year is going to be my year for Adepticon, as I should already have the job market poop pinched off, the book written, and can plan classes around it a little farther in advance. Unless we have another kid. Then I might just hide in RiTides' luggage forever As it stands now, I -might- be able to sneak out to Chicago with RiTides' the end of April for a Makerfair. I miss seeing people :(

So I mentioned that I've some more little projects coming up but I'd like the guys involved to chime in and let these people know what they each are getting me to do! So many cool different things such as salamander and robots and big robot leaders. That way it's twofold so I get a list to check on lol and you guys can give me some ideas of what you would like to see or how to paint them . It's going to be awesomeness especially since I've got an idea already for Gits Kastelan robots but I thinkit will be RiTides models again that are the most esoteric and whales transport models are going to look like green flowers of righteous death

I have done a lot of painting (generally for tabletop effect) but I have no idea how you can paint the battle damage like that.

Sometimes it makes me want to put the paint brushes down permanently when I see work of this quality, but then I remember that I enjoy painting and improving and its guys like you that give me the greatest tips, tricks and motivation.

Keep it up.

Hey Archer! Thanks mate, but honestly the technique used on them was pretty basic for the most part, it just takes a bit of personal taste and patience the rough idea behind it is to give the weathering some depth by adding layers of weathering using just washes and Vallejo metal air silver. start with a full silver base coat whether it's a metal primer or a base of paint then wash with Agrax Earthshade, Nuln Oil then add some patches of metal by both fine detail brushing scratches and also using a slightly more watered paint and sort of blotching some parts on and wiping off to get an effect you like. then follow up with a liberal wash of sepia with the final scratches done with a fine brush. you can also go back with black and darker certain areas in shadow and use different inks for certain parts.

hope that helps you have a crack at it? like I said the theory is basic but it's a personal taste effect and you'll get a finish you like by playing around with that method if you try it please chuck up some pics here for us to see!

Thanks for the mini-tutorial

No no, I just know you're "40k'ed out" . However, these are for 30k... so it's totally different!

But seriously, I'm only partially joking, it seems a lot more balanced and everyone who I've seen playing it has been pretty cool!

I think I might've posted these a little way back, but the final wave for nerdy from me is: 4 Scyllax with flamers, 10 Adsecularis bots, 3 Myrmidons and 1 Armored Conveyor. You guys have seen the models for the Scyllax and Adsecularis already as nerdfest has done some, but the new stuff is here:

Only bummer is the transport (from the same company the big walkers are from) might be coming in stock later than they originally thought. It was supposed to be this week, but might be delayed up to 6 weeks since it was coming from China and CNY just happened... should've just had nerdfest go and pick it up for me rather than fly it across the world and back, right

So, not sure if he'll do the infantry separately or wait for the transport. Only thing I'm nervous about is the skin - hoping for a really dark skin, as there's no other exposed flesh in the whole army!

And I say last, but it will be really, really tempting to pick up some Adeptus Titanicus to match this army when that releases... I'm pretty sure all of us will be tempted, hopefully it will be popular as I could see myself playing that even more than 30k

Are you going to assemble the other stuff while you wait for the transports? Might help the turnaround if you are hoping for Apeticon readiness.

Here's their site Alpharius, just to make the tempting easier

http://www.industriamechanika.com

They've got some weird stuff on there! The things I'm using are from the "Mecha" and "Land" tabs.

Whalemusic, if the transport is delayed the full time or anything close to it, it probably can't be ready by AdeptiCon, so that's a good question. I can run a list without these infantry but it will be better with them

Hey guys, little update on some wip for you we've got Whaley's Salamander army and Gits' Reaver Titan armour plates

Gits Reaver is now assembled and most is just waiting on priming, but I started on some plates of armour, I wanted to try and do something different for such a beautiful model and get those that see it something to really investigate. I've attempted to add some filigree under a reddish gold sheen and it seems to have worked they aren't as 'red' as my normal candy effect since I started from a silver base to get the filigree to standout so they do look slightly pink for want of a better description. once the gold bands get finished the effect should really jump.

And Whaley's Salamanders consist of ten terminators, four marines, five drop pods, two rhino's, a land speeder and two rapiers along with four dreadnoughts they're coming along well and now have all base colours and washes done, ready for highlighting, where they all come together!

Hope that keeps you satiated for a while longer as I finish everyting up some more

Yeah I will second that. The filigree work is truly amazing. Some of the best paintwork I have seen. Really looking forward to more.

The metallic green works really well. It has an almost yellowish glow like they are near an open source of flame. But I am betting that was your plan.

I love how subtle the filigree ended up being, I was worried it'd be overpowering when I heard you describing it! But I think you got it just right

Salamanders are looking good, my favorite touch is those occasional black panels amidst all the green! Very nice

Thanks everyone! the Sallies are really getting there and should be done by weeks end! they look kinda meh until I start the actual highlighting of each colour and it spurs me on for the next one, I've just done the silver metals highlights on everything except the pods and next i'll do the golds and armour, after that it's all downhill from there with details and other spot colours :-)

I'll also try and get the rest of the reaver primed and start work on her in earnest, the plates I'll leave as is since there's so much more of her to love! and I don't want to do anything to them to ruin them, they'll be a nice contrast to the main body :-)

Thanks guys. :-)

just a little heads up I have a mate who's getting rid of a LOT of SM models, some nice older metal ones and a few other squads and NOS stuff from DA and SW but since he's not an online sort of guy he's asked me to help out. so I'll be making a post in the next few days for him, he's negotiable on prices too, lots of BA models.....lots.

Also I'm going to re advertise my Nurgle models for HELLA CHEAP including a MAgoth Lord, so hit me up if you need the god of pestilence!

Most of them are from Lead Adventurer's new Astropolis line, highly recommended (that's a link to the Kickstarter but you can jump to their shop from there)

The first one however is from Blind Beggar Miniatures' Outlanders line. I love this little mini but in general the sculpting on the Astropolis models is better.

Astropolis is doing another campaign for more minis soon, and I can't say enough good things about how they fulfilled the first one! I'll post it up when they do as these make some great "civilians" too, something you rarely find for 30k - 40k.
