Painting has been rather slow this last few weeks due to distractions like work, holidays, visits to the nans... some more work. There are some new finished models, but the camera is also playing up at the moment too, wouldn't you know it.
Still. The long drives to Devon recently gave me a chance to reflect on some old projects that really need to get resurrected this year, especially Inquisitor Gale and her retinue. 77 pence on Amazon got me all the original Oz books for the Kindle, which are surprisingly good 114 years on and are providing lots of ideas for small additions to the models and diorama (whatever it may end up being).
Looking back over the thread, everything seemed to stall when the Scourges never turned up. I really should try and order those and start again as I had some neat ideas for posing Stannum Silvanus... hopefully still doable with the legs already built.
Still working on the other character ideas though... more on that as it comes into being. Small steps...

Thanks. In some ways the painting challenge has been good, in that it has made me sit down and paint, but it's also slightly burnt me out as it encourages bulk painting troops to tabletop standard.

I've managed to do a bit more painting of the Achtung! Cthulhu models for my Strange Aeons games.
By the looks of things, Nyarlathotep has some sort of agreement with the German high command as some troops have started to mutate into servitors, immediately identifiable as followers of the crawling chaos. These lesser servitors are led into battle by some overlords who retain eyes in their tentacled heads and more humanoid hands capable of manipulating modern equipment
Overlords of Nyarlathotep
Servitors
Signs of Cthonian activity have been reported around the Wookie caves. Future maneuvers will be needed into the caverns to get rid of the infestation.
Rumours also occur every now and then of eerie baying and strange otherworldly canine-like beasts on the Dartmoor
Both of these are from the Acthung! Cthulhu kickstarter and are very... fiddly to piece together. The ankles on the hound are about the thickness of a pin, but the detail is really nice.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Nice, all very tempting now I'm re-affirming my allegiance to chaos Liking the 'flesh' tones, and good colour choice for the hound of the baskervilles....
Is the Cthonian pod-thing on the same size base as the others? And are the overlord's heads seperate?

Yes, the Cthonian is on the same size base. Also, the overlord heads are separate, which means you could either stick them on something else, or add human heads onto these bodies if you wanted more normal looking troops. Only part of the Servitor's head is separate though.

The Russians have had some progress and the first 17 are now complete.
These are all Bolt Action plastics, with the addition of a spare Warhammer Empire banner to add that little bit extra character to the mob. There's another 20 or so Russians left on the painting table that I will get around to at some point to bring it up to a full 500 point BA force, but for now they will be great fodder for Strange Aeons and our RPG sessions

One of the joys of Salute is the raised levels of inspiration afterwards. I've been meaning to carry on with the remaining walls from the Garden of Morr kit, but there are so many skulls embedded in them that it's frustrating and off-putting. It turns out that it's far easier to create a new wall from scratch instead of making blood sacrifices to clean off all the skulls.
I rolled out a piece of air dry clay so that it was about the same thickness of the GW walls and once dry, carved in some bricks about the same height on one side. This is currently sitting in some mold rubber so I can make a plaster version and continue with the opposite side. The clay was good for starting with, but was becoming too fragile to even attempt the other side without losing the whole lot. For now, I've not made it a specific length so I have the ability to pick the neatest section to place between pillars and then top it.
So far I'm feeling rather pleased with these and have plans forming in my head for lots more matching pieces like this
