And seriously, I'm probably one of a small population of people that could make bronies look normal. It's my wargaming that would make me look like a freak. Seriously, let's just not give them any bait and they'll give up. All they want is good press, and they can't get good press if don't give 'em any. I consider myself a "normal" (if you can say that) brony, I don't love the show, I just like it for it's characters, plots and legit sense of humour. I am not ashamed to say it. But what I don't want is TLC coming in here and messing the whole thing up. People regard me as normal. I want it to stay that way.

No one is normal... Anyone that claims "normality" are probably on some sort of "mood balancing" drug*.


*this is a blanket statement based on the fact that I'm not normal and I'm not on any sort of drug.

And to that end, don't go slamming the door on them, either. Say "I'd rather not comment, thank you" and shut the door softly. They could take any sort of anger 'wrong' as well.

Your pleas, on a plastic men forum, and else where to "black out" TLC are a wasted effort. Let's start with the best case scenario.
No one talks to TLC.
TLC: fine we'll just make it up.
Amish Mafia springs to mind.
TLC find some thoroughly stereotypical actor to portray an overweight 29 year old virgin living in his mothers basement.
You don't think TLC has access to basements and Toy R Us to fill them with MLP crap?
Worst case scenario (what will actually happen)
Bronies flock to the TLC producers and they pick the worst of the bunch. And what makes good television? hoarders.

Maybe you should consider the possibility that Bronies will recieve national derision from TLC because it's a vocal fan base made up of men who watch a show made for pre teen girls who discuss the subtleties of the plot line and managed to invent a character named "Derpy".

Honestly if someone walks up to you like that and introduces themselves as "X" they probably are a freak no matter what they're into. Out of curiosity, what is My Little Brony? That's gotten a few mentions here now.

I don't see the problem with this.

They do the same thing to Wargamers. Or pretty much anyone that does something that isn't "Cool". They'll find the most stereotypical guy they can, or barring that pay someone to be that guy, and make that group look bad. IIRC they do it about once a year or so on 40k in some British paper. They did the same thing with DnD every year for damn near 40 years.

If someone makes fun of me for my interests, it's better that way. Better they go after me than go after someone who cares about what other people think. Any Brony that worries about this is over reacting and anyone that stops being a brony after that show airs was just someone trying to look trendy. I like Wargaming and MLP, among many other hobbies not relevant to Dakka, but most importantly, I enjoy everything I do. I don't worry about what Society thinks about my various hobbies, because the people that look down at what I do don't matter.

It's not a new thing though. They always pick the one person that best amplifies the stereotype to hurt a fandom that isn't "normal". And we survived that. We'll survived some show on TLC that I've never heard of because I haven't watched TLC since they cancelled Junk Yard Wars. That was a hellacool show.

Everyone I have talked to about the show loves it, but they are not going out and planning on spending the $125 on the Boxed set at Best Buy to watch it inside a darkened room. They are going to get it to show there friends and family and hope they like it to. If they don’t understand it after watching it, so be it.

I think all of us who watch the show has also been very civil. I think everyone should be this way.
