I've been exalting a lot of your posts recently...
To be fair, I've seen some fairly mature (as in aimed for adults, not of sexual or explicit content) anime
*bows*
My pleasure to entertain.
Now anime is a genre so it obviously has some pretty wide outliers, and it's age targets range from the "MLP" target demographic to adulthood but let's face it most of the classics and the stuff everyone loves here in the states especially, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Gundam, etc to a mind boggling degree is aimed squarely at the children and young adult market at the edges (Gundam in particular dealt with some pretty mature themes and took a fairly dark tone.) That said, and I think we just had a thread that brought this up AND a Cracked.com article on the subject and people who are too into anime as adults are judged pretty harshly in Japan as well as the US.

There is a trope about this.http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PeripheryDemographic?from=Main.PeripheralDemographic
I think the only real difference with MLP is that it's a girls show. I don't have the fingers to count how often a children's show has attracted adult fans. However they are normally showed aimed at boys. Girls shows, well no one watches them not even little girls sometimes. The impressive thing about MLP is that it managed to attract a rather large demo well still being quite girly.

I just use Transformers as an example to show how they are over reacting.
Someday i hope to write a short paper on the subject of entertainment and gender demographics.

I wouldn't say the Gen 4 incarnation of MLP is excessively girly. That's pretty much the opposite of Lauren Faust's stated goals when she created the show. Strong female themes? Yes absolutely but watch a clip of G3 and try not to vomit. That's girly.

"A large portion of the periphery demographic also comes since media classifications are very often ignored and media intended for mature audiences (like First-Person Shooter games) also attracts teens and preteen audience."
This explains absurd amount of 12 year old COD fanboys...
Quite accurately.
Currently attempting to put together a homebrew non-canon Space Marine chapter. If I can be bothered to getting around to painting the models and putting the things together of course...

What I learned from today's episode.
1: Roid Rage can fly like a pro despite his tiny wings
2: Spitfire is also a drill sergeant
3: Fluttershy couldn't fly if her life depended on it
4: Twilight's balloon is destroyed

Bees. End of explanation.
On the whole, I thought the episode was slightly illogical, even in the MLP sense.

Spoiler:
I would be okay if that became canon... Mac, the strong silent type, and fluttershy, the quiet girl with far too many phobias? Mac would almost literally be her rock in which she can brace against should life in quiet ponyville ever get too rough.
