Glad all is settling well, have been waiting patiently hope you have had some quality time with the family as well

OK now down to business cant wait to get some of these steamy style kick ass weapons, O-boy going to have some fun with these.

Put me down for a few sets the Gatling gun is so COOL I have a guy just screaming to be posed with this

Also a conversion using them as well not giving anything away mind

The rifles are destined to be the units weapon of choice, as for the power glaive and storm hammer might work great on some of my dwarf conversion as well (heading for the steam punk era ).

Love the lizard great sculpting their, like the way it is posed as well, and the nurgle detail is a nice touch especially on the power fist, the bikes look more original as well nice conversion work.

Although I have to say the Tiny Equine is looking slightly like a little pony at the moment

Thanks for the comments everyone. I am happy that the guns and equine are well received.

I am currently in the process of making a mold for the weapons, so I hope to have that done soon. I still have some finishing work on the Heresy investigator and then I will post pre-mold pics of that. And I am also sanding and smoothing the equine to get it ready to add some more to it. I want to get the ears and eye on it, and fill out the body a bit. Also the head is a bit small at the moment.

Along with working on my Chaos Army from time-to-time.

Hope to have more for you to view later today.

Thanks for dropping by!

Glad that now I am back the usual suspects are still here :-) You weapons are looking decidedly awesome. Moving sides throw you off your game some wha, having to get into a new routine.

Do your girls nap in the day? My 2 year old son is currently stopping his day time nap so trends to sleep in a but longer. The downside is that I get in from work at 7 eat and pout him to bed. So havre to make the most of the weekends with him. But out is leaving me me with time in the evenings to geek. Which was xboxing, but now I have my study I'm getting back in to my mini's :-)

Keep up the good work.

Hey all,

Have been busy lately with work and family. Probably going to be spending even more time with family in the coming weeks. I have the first half of the steampunk weapons molded, but I don't think the mold is going to come out right. there is space between the weapons and first half of the mold. If anyone knows how to minimize this, please let me know. I may have to start over, and do a one-piece mold, although I don't like that method as much any more.

I have actually done some work on my chaos army lately, but not enough to show yet. It doesn't realy matter anyway, as I have still not paid a visit to the local gaming store. But in related news, I went to dinner with my family to a Thai resturant in Tacoma, Washington, and it was RIGHT next door to a Games Workshop store! I drooled in the window and may have startled some of the patrons inside. My wife said I could go and "Be a geek" (her words) after dinner, but it was closed by the time we got out. :( Next time.

One sad piece of news. I found out I am allergic to Magic Sculp. Every time I sculpt with it, my eyes puff up like balloons, and they itch for days. It was happening about 4 or 5 months ago, for about 3 weeks, and I just thought it was something in the air that was doing it. Using rubber gloves when I sculpt with it makes it somewhat better, but my eyes still itch, but at least no swelling. So, as long as I use it limited cases, I should be fine. I ordered 2 packs of Pro Create, so I should be fine.

That has got to suck. Sorry to hear that. I hope you find a replacement product soon that doesn't cause those problems.

Try out Aves Apoxie Sculpt or Fixit Sculpt. Both are very similar to Magic Sculpt (I have and use all 3), and Aves has said in the past that they try to make all of their mixes milder/more hypo-allergenic.

Having said that, one can develop sensitivities to just about anything, so no guarantees. Worth a shot though.

Then you cold use the Magic Sculpt with gloves to just bulk things out and use the other for details.

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't think the Hazmat suit will be necessary, but I will have to take precautions.

Taarnak : I do have Apoxie Sculpt, I like it but it just doesn't hold fine detail as well as the Magic Sculp.

I have been switching back and forth between Magic Sculp and ProCreate "Grey Stuff" anyway, so I'll just have to use grey stuff more often now.

Also, I finished the mold pouring for the weapons last night. There are a few problem areas, but hopefully it will work, because the rifles where mostly destroyed in the process. They stuck to the mold even after heavy use of release agent, and they are thin, so 4 of the 5 snapped when removing them. But the other weapons seem to look ok, so I guess we'll see later today when I cast them in resin!

Thanks for stopping by,

Then I would definitely try to get a small quantity of Fixit Sculpt. It is more like Magic Sculpt than Apoxie Sculpt anyway, and holds detail well.

I do really like the ProCreate though. Seems to have all of the good qualities of Kneadatite and few of the bad (which was the idea, I understand.)

Exposure to epoxies can cause sensitivities. While certainly not medical advice or scientific study, this article gives you an idea what is going on.

Steady Jake you don't want to make yourself ill even for your hobby

Glad the casting for the weapons is going ahead although the originals being destroyed in the process is a bummer, have you got any pics of them yet

Not quite ready for Christmas but hopefully ready for the cold grey days of January

Thanks for the info Taarnak!

Dave, I can only guess that my foray into casting gave me a higher exposure to the chemicals, and since I wear gloves when casting, I am not affected by that, but I wasn't wearing gloves with the magic sculp, so that is where the allergy manifested.

The first cast of the weapons is out!

They are not as perfect as I had hoped for. But not horrible.

I will take pictures soon, and let you all be the judge.

The barrels of the gatling gun have "crud" in the grooves between the barrels, and there is some deformation.

Also the lasrer rifles are somewhat deformed, but again, I will let the pictures tell the tale.

But the kids are waiting for a bath, so I will post the pics later.

RSJake

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK, here are some pictures. I shouldn't even post some of these, the casts came out bad. But I wanted you guys to at least see what happened.

I blame myself, and several months of not making molds. You get out of the habit pretty quick it seems.

The Laser Rifles:
This side is pretty good, but this is not the side that will face out from the model...

This side is...

Not happy with this at all.

The gatling gun looks pretty good at first glance,...

But the top side leave much to be desired...

And this shot just makes me sick...

On the bright side, the hammer and the chain blade came out pretty well!

All things considered, it's not the end of the world, but I am not going to be putting the guns up for sale. I will be getting the rifles re-printed, and make another attempt at a mold. The gatling gun print is still in good shape, so I can make that one again soon.

So many things I need to make molds for, not enough time.

All things in good time though.

LDD, if you still want some of these rifles PM me.

Anyway, thanks everyone for bearing with me. I'll get back into the swing of things in good time I hope.

RSJake

The casts are not as bad as you think. Papa Nurgle could make all sorts of that work for his missionaries on distant planets.

RSJake Dam the first pic I was like what the hell they look great then the second pic I was like I see what you mean that is a shame

Moulding can be a real evil mistress at times However once you get the mould sorted they will be AMAZING !!!!!!

So don't get down to much after all the hobby is here to test our mind and patience so back on the horse as they say

Now those rifles are looking great and I really mean that perfect for several projects I have in mind, they have that perfect mix of traditional style blended with sci-fi

That gatling gun is also going to be a work of art, even with the distorted cast you can tell that it will be a dam fine sculpt

Mind you I see no shotguns have they been shelved I hope not as I had a few of those marked out for my a couple of projects

The hammer has turned out well (I might take one of those for my Dwarf mechanic ) the Chain blade does look cool, although has the handle got some kind of mechanism half way down as I cant tell from the pic if it is a control panel or just some flash.

Either way it all is looking cool and cant wait to get some of these, once you get the mould sorted let me know GREAT STUFF

i still wouldn´t rule out the swimming googles idea mordain mentioned for the use of magic sculpt... if it is only your éyes that get the majority of the allergic effect then this might solve that...

i feel your pain about those casts... maybe redo the casts and flip the to be casted bitz around? that might solve this problem ...maybe...

Yeah, they way the good parts came out gives me hope. I really do like the detail.

The shaft of the chain blade is not quite as detailed as I had designed it, or at least the detail is too small. It's supposed to have two areas of grip, separated by a smooth piece.

No worries on the Shotguns, I have not shelved them, at least no more than the rest of my casts during my hiatus.

They are in a different mold, and they are coming out quite nicely.

Thanks for the comments guys.

As for the mis-casts, I will paint some up, and see if they could be used as "Corrrupted" weapons for Nurgle. Maybe the bad parts could be painted like rust and corrosion. Who knows!
