Excuse my dimness, but what are Butcher's Nails?

They are the neural implants the World Eaters were outfitted with in order to make them more aggressive and dangerous in battle. The implants were (imperfectly) copied from the ones Angron himself received during his life as a gladiator, and they had the side effect of turning most of the legion into frenzied madmen

Like Biohazard said, the cabling on the back of Deimos' head makes for rather convincing Butcher's Nails.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Kraut

A little paint in progress.

Kruegers Base,

Voorhees Base

Gore Strider Base,

And finally started to lay some colour on this, I was really unsure how to tackle something this size but it seems to be coming along alright so far.

Wow! That looks great, Bio. I love the work you did on the bases, especially the... what is that? a hand?... buried under the rubble on Voorhees' base. Very nice nice touches!

Dying's the easy way out. You won't catch me dying. They'll have to kill me before I die!

Wow thanks guys, Yellowbeard that is indeed a Marines Malevolent hand. I like to add little bits like that to make the bases more interesting not only to look at but to build as well. Same reason I added the little sign to the Blood Stalkers base.

Definitely one of the best bipedal-walker defiler conversion I've seen. Awesome skull head, and not too busy with the details. Will he get glowing eyes?

Thanks a lot buddy, that means a lot coming from someone as creative as yourself. For the eyes I honestly have no idea. All my other models Dreadnoughts included have the plain white eyes of the khorne deamons. I dont think that will really work on something like this though.

Did a little more work

Automatically Appended Next Post:
EDIT!! I have literally just found the inner part of the skull with the natural eyes of the Stonehorn, I'm thinking they could work and fit the whole Daemon Engine theme as well as the theme for the rest of the force.

or just try a few things and see what you like, but the skull is cool so people will be attracted to the eyes.

if you feel like trying to make them glowing,
first make a ball of greenstuff and place it on the tip of the eye-cylinder things. painting them white first, then get the brightest most translucent red you have, and paint over it, with just a thin layer of watered down paint. then finish with a little dot of white paint in the upper corner of the eye, and cover with another thin layer of paint, it should make a simple glowing effect.

Thanks for the advice buddy, really appreciate it. I think I'm going to either shorten the cylinder thingys in the eye sockets so the eyes are quite deep set or ill try the biological type eyes. Heading out to the games club soon so it will be later tonight I get more work done on this.

Like I said, the Bloodstalker is coming along nicely! Excellent stuff, buddy!

Not sure about the biological eyes, though. The rest of the model simply isn't organic enough for that, plus I really love how the lenses are set in that organic looking skull.

Fair point well made Kraut. Like I say I'm going to shorten the eye stalks a little. Hopefully I don't have to rip the head apart to do it. Ill give Meads suggestion a go. I have some Tamiya clear red here somewhere I'm sure that should give a decent glow effect.

These demon engines of yours are really starting to look quite fearsome indeed, especially surrounded by all those terminators. Looking sweet with the paintjobs, and I love the conversion work on the Lord, fantastic!

Thanks buddy, I am really proud of this model especially since I built the basic structure in less then half an hour.

Still a long ways to go, needs another coat of Meph Red and then some highlights on the red. I really need to gs the heavy flamer and shin plates. The eyes need a lot more work as well.

Bits arrived today for me to knock together a test model for my Raptor squad, nothing more than a simple kitbash but I think when the unit is complete they will look pretty good and fit the aesthetic of the rest of the army.

Also tonight I knocked together another objective marker/shrine.

Not a paint update, but a spiky one. I ordered some Orc spikes from Bits&Kits on a whim and when they arrived I realised they were the perfect scale for the Gorehound

Wow, all kinds of great updates, buddy! That objective marker is great, and I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of your Raptor squad!

The Gorehound is looking better than ever as well! The Khorne icon from the warshrine kit is a great addition to the head! Plus I love how you managed to make such a huge and unwieldy machine look sooo angry

And finally, great progress on the Bloodstalker as well! You're quite the accomplished painter! Although I have to say that I am not really sold on the red eyes: Personally speaking, I would have gone with something to contrast the red (light blue or green, for example). But I'll reserve judgment until I've seen the finished model!

Thanks buddy, Im not sure there are enough symbols of Khorne on the Gorehound yet lol.

The spikes fit my vision perfectly, they will be interspersed with some skulls as well and that may well be the upper part done. The whole model needs a tonne of green stuff throwing at it still but this was never gonna be a fast build.

As for the Blood Stalkers eyes Im still not 100% sold on the red either yet, Im going to paint them a little more gem like and see how i like the result. I may yet change them to green.
