Sadly, moments after this picture was taken, ash from Willie's cigar fell into the wheelbarrow.

All we found were his glasses, charred and still smoking, 200 feet away from the crater.

Absolutely stellar terrain work in here...
Im still reading through the thread, but I had something of a few questions:

How does the Orthodontic stone hold up to resin? That is to say, is it better/worse?
Why do you use it instead of resin? Cost? Dries faster? Better results?
Would it hold up to casting models or would you suggest only terrain?
And finally, until I inevitably think up another one, How durable does it end up being? Ive used plaster (cheap craft stuff...) before to poor results- the pieces shattered after only a little handling.

I do apologize if I repeated any questions youve already answered.
Keep up the great work!

Different. It can hold as much detail but is more prone to chipping. is plenty tough for tiled floors and such though.

 Ramos Asura wrote:

Cheaper, and much easier to clean up after, also does not wear out molds anywhere near as fast.

 Ramos Asura wrote:

It is VERY fragile when thin and unsupported.

Dental stone should hold up to handling better if it is thick enough in the main structural parts (min of 1/4 in thick for free standing pieces)

The Orthodontic plaster is about 6 times harder and denser than plaster of paris. To cast Hirst Arts blocks in Resin would be stupidly expensive.

OMG Dave, the casts look fantastic! I will have to pm you and work out how much I can grease your palm with to send me some :-) it's only scant weeks away from decent weather down here and that's always when my terrain bug bites me firmly on the ass!

Not to mention I did the most terrible, terrible thing any hobbyist should do when they have 4,500 points of marines!..... I got a copy of Cities of Death! now there's no hope for me at all..... I want/need an epic city board now! i've even been looking for parts to use, I love the gothic tower the spanish guy has made (I forget his name) and I found some 'roads' small cobblestone but should still work when put together, only problem is they're only 16cmx24cm so i'm gonna need a load of 'em! :-)

on a terrain note, can anyone enlighten me on the proportions of 1/35 scale compared to our heroic scale? I'm looking mainly at terrain accesories so crates barrels etc. would they look out of place amongst 40k terrain? considering the normal human populace is smaller than the marines? or will it just look tiny and out of place?

That would be KM2500 (the spanish guy)

The Pegasus hobbies accessory bits look about right I believe they are 1:48...

BTW the first test cast of the "dusky Rootbeer" machine is done. I'll be posting some side by side pics of the master+ the 1st cast in my thread momentarily.

@Nerd Thanks man! PM me what you need, we'll figure something out! I can weigh and ship from the shop here now, even internationally, we can get what you need in your budget

1/35 accessories are perfect for our heroic 28mm figure size. The fence kit I built was 1/35, the crates stowed on the Orkmower are 1/35, they are perfect.

Since so many are curious, I thought I'd document what I'm doing:

I weigh out a cup of Powder 200g

Here I have pre-measured 4 pours, ready for a quick mix and pouring

Then I add 1/3 cup cold water, watch it bubble for 30 seconds

With this stuff, the more vigorous the stirring, the less air bubbles

Pour onto the ridges of the mold, let gravity and physics force the air out naturally

Putty Knife FTW!

The production line.

so these things are called putty knifes? god to know...

and the production line looks very good... i like your way of getting rid of the airbubbles... good thinking there!

would you say that this whole business with casting and mixing plaster is possible without a scales? i don´t own one and i think without one it would be way more complicated to achieve stable quality? what´s your opinion?

those miniers are a nice thing... aren´t we all like minis that don´t look too much like fighting all the time?

oh and i cross my fingers for your auction to go well...!
