Yeah, funny how in the 'how to make Terrain' book they have that crashed spaceship...which actually looks really cool until you find out they cut up a Star Wars transport ship that hasn't been sold since like the early 80's...sure, I bet everyone has one of those laying around to hack up and make into scenery

Way too far behind to catch up, but when I clicked on 'first unread" this pic popped up and I thought you built / painted it.

I was about to quit the hobby until I realized it wasn't a model.

Naw, just kidding. I just got an airbrush!

The really sick thing is that miniature sells the idea even more and forces the perspective... it really DOES look like terrain now! Absolute madness / illness detail that only a completely insane person would attempt... which means Dave will likely start this project next week (and have it finished a week later)

How come you were off Dakka a week Vik?

I've been on a trip around the East Coast Vik, visiting Ladygeek's family for the holidays. Yesterday was the first time in my life I've ever seen the ocean.

Wow. First time at the ocean. And what a beautiful day for it too. Lol

You need to go back on a nice spring or summer day. And see what it's really like.

It was amazing, despite the crappy day. Growing up in the midwest, I thought I'd never ever see it. The scale, the size..it was the biggest thing I've ever seen. I have to admit, it took my breath away and was quite emotional for me. The sound was all I could hear, and the smell was probably the freshest thing I've ever smelled too.

Having been fortunate enough to have grown up on the East Coast most of my life (40 mins from the beach) and lived for 3yrs in Hawaii (100yrds from the beach) It non the less always amazes me to look out on the oceans horrizon and feel so dwarfed by its size. I can't imagine seeing it for the first time as an adult. Glad you were able to see it! Were you brave enough to actually get in the water despite the weather?

I live in the South, on the opposite side of Georgia from the ocean, but I love going to the ocean. It's terrifying and wonderful all at the same time to think where all that water has been and imagine what might be in it. Jaws warped me as a child though and I don't like swimming in it.

Right now I live just outside of Raleigh, NC about 3 1/2hrs from the beach. Honestly feel more comfortable in the ocean than I do swimming in lakes or in the rivers here. For me I know that If I get "bumped" in the ocean, it's either a sand or hammerhead shark, but if I get bumped in a freshwater area... Yeah, that just freaks me out!

Very cool Dave, I spent my early childhood in Minnesota, and visited Lake Superior a couple of times...but my dad is English and my first visit to the Ocean was when we made a trip to England when I was 5. My Nan had a cottage near the sea in a little town called Wittering in the South of England not too far from Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. I didnt understand it was the English Channel back then, but it was impressive to me nonetheless. We moved to the SF Bay area in California when I was 11...and I havent lived more than an hours drive from the ocean ever since....Ok, 29 Palms was more than an hour away, but my other duty stations during my stint in the Marines, Camp Horno at Camp Pendleton, MCRD San Diego, Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Camp Hansen in Okinawa, and even my 2 months at an army base outside Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia were all no more than about an hour from an ocean if not closer. I hate to say it, but I sort of take it for granted now, and hearing your story actually makes me feel guilty that I havent been to the ocean in a bout a year, despite my living 20 minutes from it now...Family trip to the beach this weekend!

My ex lives in Miami with my two daughters. They're 1/2 an hour, at the most, from the beach. They never go. That's just ridiculous.

Haha, it wasn't very cold in South Jersey, about 54. I got my feet and hands wet, not much else. Now I am in Albany, NY and it's miserably cold here. I'm ready to go home now, but we don't fly back until Weds I'll definately come back when it's nicer weather.

Oh man. Albany is only 3.5 hrs from me. Next time you're coming out we should get a LoER game in w/ you and Brian vs. me and Galorn. We will share the love of Papa Nurgle with your brainwashed Imperial lapdogs.

Yeah, Brian said he and Galorn are about 4 hrs from here too. I went through the Pine Barrens in NJ, and the Catskill Mountains and It's absolutely amazing to me that people settled this terrain with no more than horsepower and the rivers at the time. Like I said, in the Midwest, everything is flat and ALL the urban areas are sprawled. I'd need a sturdier roadcase to trust my miniatures to checked baggage methinks
