Well yes. But one of the troll slayers is a mercenary. The Halfling allows me to get one more warrior in the band, and so does the cooking book.
So I have painted enough dwarves to cover all possibilities if we run a campaign.

I'll switch to other projects. I have Project 111 models on my desk. And more dark eldars.
I also played my first Eden tournament last sunday and it was so much fun. I had never played that game before so I lost every game, ending last. But I really enjoyed it, the game is very tactical and interesting, you should have a try at it !
Plus I won the best painted band award so I'm really really happy. I plan to paint new models for the next tournament ! These are the models that I played :

it is interesting to see that these minis world with true metallics, since all the studio minis are NMM...

i loved Taban since they were only making bases...
when they came out with the Eden minis a few years ago, i fell in love with the ISC...
once i start playing with NMM, those Samurai robots are going straight in the painting queue...

I remember you painted these a while back. I think these are some of your best work for sure. The colors are just fantastic. The purples are regal and the greens are sickly. Still love these!

Thanks. I like to paint TMP, I find it interesting to try to get different shades, textures and shine. On these models there are only "steel" metalics, no gold or bronze but their aspect differs. It's one of the specific points I tried to improve on this starter.

To be honest, not all their models are equal in terms of sculpt. Some are far better than others, and some - mostly older ones - don't look so good. But overall, their range is fantastic. We decided to start playing Eden with a friend because we went to a convention where all the studio models where exposed and it looked damn good !
I like the ISC too, I plan to paint some in the future. Anyway I'd be interested to see you paint those models.

Indeed. It is !
Seriously, the game format is quite small. A band is 3 to 8 models, more generally 4 or 5 (and this is the real game size, not a lighter version of the game). So people have the time to put some efforts in their painting, and there are really nice painted Eden factions.
If you have time for this, I'd like to see other painters here paint some Eden, this should lead to wonderful results.

We all have to paint the same Cadian guardsman, with no conversion allowed. It's all about the painting ! I saw a lot of the entrants post camo color scheme so I went the opposite way. I'm quite happy with the result.

Didn't decide if I'll add weathering on the armour plates though.I'll update this if I do.

Hehe, that's wonderful. I'd skip the weathering; it's the bright, unusual colours that make your model so unique, and weathering would weaken that aspect of the mini.

My friends say so. They think the bright color scheme is what makes it so unique, and they wouldn't add battle damages and weathering.

I agree with that. I CAN paint weathering and it could be a good point to show it. Well. I don't know. Now that I have moved to other models, I'll most probably not touch him again.

First WIP for project 111.
For those that don't remember (or are new here), project 111 consists in 9 guys painting an army for free and selling it on ebay. All benefits will be given to an association that takes care of children with heavy diseases.

We decided to go with a Vampire counts army. The main color is red, with little touches of turquoise.

And the first model I started working on is a necromancer. Hope you'll enjoy the WIP.

Ok, so for the reds, I paint the whole model on a preshaded base (spray black, let dry, spray white from the top).
Both reds where based with Army Painter Pure Red (=blood red). Then I washed them with Carroburg Crimson.

I darkened the recesses of the lower cloth with Army Painter strong tone (=Devlan Mud). Then I highlighted with red gore, then vermin brown and maybe the same plus bleached bones (not sure about that ^^ ).

On the upper cloth, shades are made with blue wash (Asurmen blue) and all highlights with several layers of thinned down Pure Red.


I didn't had much time to paint these days, but I kept going on a bit today, so here's a new WIP.
I try to keep working on texture, such as on leathers or on the book's cover.

He's looking really good so far Minus, I really like the way you highlighted the book.

It's color theory, yup.
The idea is that to darken a color, you don't use black, nor a darker shade of the base color. Instead you use the complementary color like green to shade reds. And more generally, you can use other colors to build up the shadows.
In this case, I use blue as a wash on the red.

The interest is that it results in more natural shadings. And it's also fun to do ( <- most important point this last one).


But to be honest, I don't use this technique really often. And it's quite a new thing to me. I started doing this when I painted my Zombicide survivors.

Hmmm... I've experimented with that a little bit before. Didn't like the results. Perhaps I lacked the appropriate touch.

Maybe you could have another try ?


My Necromancer is finished, I think. Unless someone notices something that I should touch up ?

Erh, well... No. It's as close to perfect as you'll ever get !
