Yep... but then *I* would have to make the purchases and do the work MYSELF.
The conversion is a pretty cool looking piece. Many people don't get overly concerned about playability and gladly proxy cool models.

I have a converted and (literally) professionally painted Black Templars Emperor's Champion with a Thunder Hammer bought off of Feebay to prove it. : )

My opinion is that the fun bit is getting together with my buddies and playing.
Second is converting... I'm good at painting, but I'd just rather not.

Nope. It was a single auction.
My guess is that the high bidder and the next highest bidder are both of a like mind... They both put in super-high prices for items, expecting to outbid all of the "reasonable" bidders, but not expecting to come across someone with the same tactic as they have. I've known people who use this same tactic.
I am guessing that the $100 doesn't get paid & the bidder ends up with a non-paying bidder strike against him.

I love that it tells me - "May not ship to Canada".

Like, "I'm sorry, I just can't handle the pressure of mailing these fine valuable items to such a distant and barbarous land."

They could probably be dropped in an envelope and mailed with a single stamp...

Side note - those look like plastic weapons from "Dollarama" dollar store toys. I've actually used a big axe from a similar one as in Ogre Maneater conversion and a mace/club in a troll conversion. So they're kind of handy - but probably way too large & chunky for Grey Knights.

I saw that too, Im not sure that this is an official model. I cant find anything about this thing and as further evidence, there is an article from back when the Beastmen were released on the GW website
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=8200023a

Toward the bottom it talks about how the guys at a couple Hobby Centers were motivated to create a Herdstone....if they were sent a herdstone for the release, why would they have to create one?

I wouldn't call that a folly as such.

Considering the sheer amount of man hours, alongside it being not awful, I think he has a right to ask a good price for it.

I wouldn't pay that, but I understand why he would ask it.

The wise man doubts often, and changes his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubts not; he knows all things but his own ignorance.
