Okay. Slightly wargaming related as you can buy discount iTunes cards and thus get a discount on the eBook stuff sold through iTunes.

Okay. We have a $100 iTunes card is sitting with a $182.50 bid. Why? Why would anyone ever bid over retail price for one of these? What am I missing here?

Someone REALLY wants that card?

That one I can understand. People in the US buying them at a discount and selling to Asians/Europeans most likely. Could also be people buying with stolen CC cards, but you'd have to check the seller's history to be sure.

Edit: Missed the part where he wasn't sending the physical card. Yea, I'd be concerned about that one.

When I click the link it says the winning bid is $98.00. Its not money laundering. There are businesses that sell gift cards like these. You have employees that buy then with their employee discount then sells then online. They send the code via the ebay email so there is no shipping. They do not make a huge amount doing this but a few extra bucks may make it worth it to them.
Another way it could be done is a business account . They strike deals with these companies to buy mass amounts of their cards at a discount and then resells them. This though usually requires a lot of purchasing power so with the guy having so few auctions i would lean towards the first possible reason.

It always amazes me how much people are willing to overpay for FW items sometimes. It's $12 cheaper to buy it direct from Forgeworld (and that's with shipping included).

At the time it was at 140 american dollaroos, so a bunch of bids must have been deleted.

I'm pretty sure it's a case of the seller trying to get around Ebays listing system. I.e., They don't currently have any in-stock, but rather than take the listing down and pay to relist it, they just change the price to something that no-one will pay, then put it back down once they have more stock.

Do auctions work like that nowadays, though? That trick goes for BIN listings only AFAIK.

Yea, that's a standard bid type auction so putting the starting bid that high doesn't really do anything. Still, he probably got one of eBay's monthly "free listing" offers so it isn't like he's out anything unless it sells, in which case he probably won't care.

You get some people though that have so much money to throw away, and they see something like this and assume it's rare and important, so they just want it for that. So there's a small chance that could happen with that auction xD

The past few years I've seen them average $12 per model, so this one isn't far off.

If I had the money, I'd make you an offer on your 50.

I have found that the majority of successful auctions are $7-9 per diazanette and $10-12 per diaz seeker (i have 15 of those also )

While well painted and complete it's a lot of money for relatively few models.

Bonus points for avoiding the 'pro-' moniker though.

I do use washes on certain things (like as a layer on skin before highlights), but I really sometimes hate the fact that "dip" was successfully marketed. Now everyone thinks they are a "pro-painter"

At the end of the description says he's selling it to pay for a new baby. I've seen guys list their collections way too high to placate their significant others. Classic case of 'I'm trying to sell it, but it won't sell! I promise!'

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!
