Minis are awesome, but come on folks. Limited means limited. Done that way for a reason.
I believe Insaniak said it best: Where that event happens to be located is kind of irrelevant. If it was in Melbourne, it would be equally unobtainable for many Australians.
I wanted to go to the Super Bowl - it's in the US but guess what? Couldn't afford to get to New Jersey.

It's an Australian company making a product that only those people who attend a specific event can get. Where that event happens to be located is kind of irrelevant. If it was in Melbourne, it would be equally unobtainable for many Australians. But that's kind of the point. It's a way of encouraging people to attend that event. Agreed. I'm living in America (and a former resident of metro area Adepticon is held) and I have no special way of getting the mini beyond that of any Aussie. It's an event mini and not tied to some other contract or deal like a Kickstarter. If you want it, choose one of the following... 1) Go to the event. 2) Make a deal with someone going to the event via your friend's list or a swap shop thread. 3) Buy it off of the secondary market. Oh, and since HBMC is quoted, I'll add his trademark: 4) Profit!

Guys, believe me, I feel your pain. It's pretty terrible, in some respects, that it's a limited mini - but in others, well, you get exclusive stuff if you go to the P3 con, so it's not really any different.
Now, maybe CanCon should get it's own mini as well, but that's up to CanCon and the people they want to talk to/commission. (Canberra club guys, this is a good idea to do since you're the largest con in the southern hemisphere... even if I can't get up to it from Taswegia!)
On the positive side, you WILL see 'em up on ebay afterwards like with any other limited edition thing, so there's always hope.
Anyway, back to work for me if I'm to have any hope of getting some nifty things finished (at least the models for them) by the time of the new Guard 'dex!

I understand exactly why these kinds of promotional figures are made. It still doesn't make it less annoying. I find the mindset behind Limited Editions, both creating and especially collecting, unpleasant. It does make me think less of a company when they release a lot of limited collections and engage in the whole status-symbol market; I haven't bought anything from Wyrd after they essentially turned their kickstarter into a series of velvet rope collectors' clubs with Santana and Miss Terious in the Champagne Room.
Long story short, there are a lot--a lot--of smaller sellers and manufacturers out there who are all great people and who really deserve my money, so it saves me a lot of money whenever one of them gives me even the most minor, selfish reason to associate them with a sense of 'nope'.
If we are just talking about Vic here, rather than the larger topic of 'I only want it because you can't have it' items, then she's pretty safe. Her models are great quality and fulfill an untapped niche, so they should do pretty well. The limited edition thing won't make that big of a difference for me, even if I sympathize with my offended Australian brothers. I was planning to buy a bunch last Christmas, but they didn't come out. Therefore, I will almost certainly buy a bunch next Christmas, when I have more spending money. You know, unless the DFG Black Widows come out and scratch my proverbial professional-women-soldiers itch first...

+1 and some to Bob's post, with 100% agreement.
Though I'm not a fan of that figure, I am honestly stoked at the squads that Vic's going to be producing. Will the figures go along well with the old school metals? I'm so in if they are, and will probibly be stripping the old ones and coming up with a newer scheme for them. Between the Prisoners and that beastman crew, the sample so far really has me interested in scrounging up a couple of APC's, and some tanks for the new army I'm thinking up.
I won't get into the LE issue that Wierd crapped out, except to say that it was done and continues to be done horrible in concept and practice. If anything it ended up turning me off to LE figures entirly.
Kudos to Vic's talent. I want to buy a few more squads from you just to keep you in business.

Hello, I am very excited to be able to show the 2014 LE Exclusive Adepticon miniature. If you are not going to Adepticon this year, fear not. She is the herald of things to come. This brave Color Sgt, as you see her here is only available at Adepticon, but will be joined by her sisters and brothers of the Arcadian rifles, in fully modular squads. A limited pre-sale will soon be announced, with first notification going to the email list subscribers. Watch this space for images and updates, you can join the Vic Minis mailing list here:

To those in Australia wanting one- didn't you see insaniak is going to AdeptiCon? Ask him to pick one up for you and arrange to get it from him when he's back in Aus. Easy! They sell extras at the event.
As muwhe said, their commissioning her to sculpt (not cast, as they do that) this mini gives her line exposure, allows her to attend the event- all positives.
Heck, if you want one and will pay to have it shipped to you, I'll pick one up for anyone who wants one ( PM me). You'd likely do best having someone in your country do so, of course, but from Aus I know at least insaniak and Waaagh_Gonads are attending.
So, Azazel you can easily get the fig if you'd like it . The commission gives her range exposure, lets her attend the convention to get more exposure, and end result will be more miniatures created by her. It certainly got this thread rocking
Seriously lads, PM me if you want one, or look for a deal on eBay after the fact- that was actually the cheaper route to go for the Brushfire model last year (although that may not be the case with this mini).
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Finally, some of you have points about " LE figures generally", particularly Malifaux's (it actually put me off starting it). But if you want THIS limited edition figure, you can have it! So please no huge soap boxes in here . Just PM me or take one of the other routes posted above to easily get it.

I'd like to know how to get that crisp of detail into those resin figures? Is it about the master, or sort of resin are you using that fits the bill in the quality of the sculpts?
Thats an excellent looking figure there, and if the squads are that tight, I'd like to go on record and say I'd like a platoon deal, if your going to have one.

AlexHolker wrote:
Why? Do you derive pleasure from the fact that other people can't have things they want?
To be blunt, as a collector yes, but if you are looking to peg your disappointment with limited edition items on the backs of evil collectors allow me to elaborate.
Personally, as in I am speaking as a regular guy and not a collector of toy soldiers, I don't relish that other people can't have an item because I am a selfish dick that likes to see people sad. Far from it. I'd love for everyone to have everything they ever wanted. That isn't realistic, but it would be nice. However, in regards to luxury items like toys and miniatures I ultimately don't care if you can't have something you want. We aren't talking about necessities like food or water that, when deprived of, cause people to suffer. Again, we are talking about luxury items that are merely for entertainment. You missing out on an item that I was able to get does give me a tickle--as a collector. Because it makes my collection stand out that much more from those who weren't able to add the new hotness to their collection.
Having a collection of anything is ultimately a passion project on the part of the collector. A frivolous passion project that eats up resources. When you, as a collector, meet like-minded people who share your passion for a thing it isn't unnatural to want to distinguish your collection from other such collections of things. LE items do just that. They allow collectors with expendable resources to make their passion projects a little shinier, a little more special.
Now the expenditure of resources can be in the time and money to attend an event, the skill need to win a prize at an event, or it can represent the additional money required to purchase LE items through middlemen. Either way, it allows one person's epeen to swing mightier than others who lack the resources to track down their missing baubles. It isn't personal, baby, it is just business.*
*And we all know miniatures are serious business.

Generally, any products that encourage [e]peen swinging should be boycotted.
And I'm not just saying that because collector-driven marketing decisions are what made toy companies produce fewer Darth Vaders, Battlestar Galacticas, Optimus Primes, or whatever toy people actually would enjoy playing with, just so that collectors could have their mint condition box because they could afford a pallet full of the mooks, jawas, Caprica Ones, and Barricades that contained the one good toy. Well, maybe. Damn I hate collectors and the things toy companies do to fleece them.

Thanks, yes, new weapons are currently at the printers.
I am planning to launch a pre-order for the Arcadians (girls and boys). Possibly shipping in May, depending on casting capacity.
Also looking at having a limited number of pre-release squads for sale at Adepticon, TBC.
I would love to have these available to everyone right now, but the reality of getting stuff cast means it will take a bit longer.
Cheers, V

Yeah. I couldn't find any in the many Targets and Walmarts I searched in SoCal and the bay area. Found some Pegasuses and a ton of Caprica One, though. I admit I stopped looking sometime around the midpoint of season 3...

Well, I've had 10 people contact me about the LE mini, so if 1 or 2 more want in on it I will add them in, but that's going to be about it!
I'm sure some will be on ebay for the first month or two after the convention for anyone who is in Bob's situation. Last year the minis were actually even cheaper that way, you would just be taking a small risk in betting that you could get one via that route.
I've PM'ed everyone who contacted me instructions now, so we should be good to go . I also told muwhe I was planning to do this and he was in favor of the idea, so there should be no issues. My only concern was vaguely remembering a "limit 5" on buying the LE minis; if that were the case I'll just have my roommate at the event buy the other 5

Holy crap, that's awful that Vic would accept a commission from a game convention and get paid to produce a miniature. Saints Preserve Us from such arrogance!
Hey, you know what I bet? If an Australian convention wanted to commission a miniature from one of their local and wildly talented sculptors, I'd bet she'd agree!
