Hey everyone.

Been lurking for a while, and recently picked up the hobby and brushes again, so thought I'd post some images from my first project, I've posted this on B+C and I thought I'd post it here to try and get some more feedback/critique on my stuff.

Here's my progress up to now, condensed into one post.

First off, for the blue, I haven't used any citadel colours, I used these:
http://www.andrea-miniatures.com/_carro/As...ctoDetalle=1427

6 Shades, from deepest shadow, to highlight, lovely quality paints too.

and now, on to the pictures!

Primed grey, and held under bright light to plan highlights and shadows. I find this really helps with painting and makes sure there isnt any odd shadows.

First layers of higlights to the armour, this was after a mid/dark blue basecoat, badab black wash, then layering of basecoat again.

Final (at that point) layers of armour highlights, first try at edge hightlights too.

Then, I used glazes of Leviathan purple to shade the armour, adds a nice rich dark tone to the blue.

And a comparison to show the effect

Onto the tabard!

off white base with devlan mud wash.

Highlight, highlight, highlight.

And a before and after (you can tell I love these can't you )

Inside/back of the tabard was painted red, this again was done with one of the andrea paint sets (I have blue, white and red)

Gold time!

Highlighted

Show us some skin

That's as far as I've got with the librarian so far, next step will be all the piping/silver bits, then work on the staff and books on his armour.

Here's a sneak peek of a test model for the sternguard in my fledgling army.

So yeah, I'll be updating progress as I go, please feel free to comment/suggest/critique/abuse my work and I'll try and answer any questions.

Thanks for looking!

risewiththefallen: Thanks mate! I have 10 days off work so expect lots happening

Brother-Captain Scotti: That's the plan! I sometimes think I'm crazy, but I haven't got much hope of getting a game anytime soon, so I've got lots of time to paint.

On my list to be painted are, the battleforce, 5 sanguinary guard being converted to vanguard vets, command squad and commander. Bidding on some ebay stuff now, I want to get a contemptor dread in the near future. Also, would anyone object to an Ultra's stormraven?

And there's my scratchbuilt drop/assault craft and one man drop pods (halo style) that I'm busy planning.

Phew! Now I've written all that it feels like a mountain to climb!

Nice step-by-step. I have that Termie librarian in my bitz box, think I might finally dig him out . . .

Nice start on the libby, not a fan of the parchment you have on the sternguard but the shoulders are sweet. Are they Anvil?

Any plans for a few vehicles? Other than the ole rhino of course.

No trees were hurt in the making of this sig, however many electrons were disturbed.

Thanks Ash 1, go for it, it's a lovely model.

Lennysmash, thanks, yeah I'm a bit 50/50 on that, might change it for the leather roman "pteruges" (the strap things") to enhance the roman feel. Spot on with the shoulders, they are lovely casts, great detail and fit, and best of all, really cheap! I've also ordered these http://www.freewebstore.org/Zinge-Industries/Ammo_Drums_26_Boxes/p658641_2863673.aspx to pimp up their bolters.

I spent last night building AOBR terminators, tac squad and scouts, got an assault squad, rhino and vangaurd vets (from san. guard) to do as well, on the vehicle front, I have some plans drop pods, probably a predator/LR, FW contemptor too Plus a scratch built assault raft/lander, based on the caestus concept art GW posted in on of their news stories a while back.

Thanks for looking

Dan

Really nice colour on the blue. Did you buy the finecast version of the Lib? Im using one for a conversion and the mis casts and mold lines were a pain in the ass to clean up especially on the little details like the keys. Look forward to seeing more stuff.

Thanks mate, yeah it's the finecast version, I guess I got lucky, this one was like 99% perfect, the storm bolter was a little worse off, the sighting part was warped, but as I'm not using it, no biggie. Should be finishing the libby tonight (famous last words) then I've got a lot of priming to do!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Haven't done any painting, but have been working out my ideas for my scratch built drop ship as a 3d model.

The idea behind it is much like the Huey in vietnam, get in fast, drop off, provide fire support, then leave to pick up more troops. Less hard hitting than the Caestus from FW, probably should only be able to transport smaller squads as it is a smaller size, or carry 10 and have a mainly anti-infantry weapons.

Based around the top-right concept in this sketch form GW

Any ideas are really appreciated at this stage, whether rules ideas, or bits sources, or changes.

Can't wait to hear what people think!

Cheers

So, I've mananged to make some progress, almost all the marines I have are built, only vanguard, assault marines, a rhino and the lovely chapter masters and terminator chaplain I got from eBay in the post today (£13 for chapter masters and £5 for termi chaplain, result!)

I spent a bit of time tonight on my sternguard, here's the sergeant:

I'm pretty pleased with him, the ammo drum is from zinge industries, they are designed for bolters so it makes sternguard bolters nice and easy to make. Added extra armour plates with plasticard (he has one on each thigh, I added the second after taking the pic)
I'm trying to go for less of a 'spec ops' feel for the vets, and more of a unmoving, decorated knight. No sneaking around, wade right in and blast everything out of their path. Still got purity seals/parchments to add, and other shiny bits, might bulk his lower legs with some decoration to his greaves.

I look forward to hearing everyones thoughts.

Cheers

I REALLY Like the Drop Pod/Caestus idea.

I will say this though - looks very similar to this..

If you could scratch Build your 3D Model - I would steer clear of White - thats for certain.

It looks Brill though - very impressed.

Definetly Sub'd. Amazing work, as I have always been more of a painter than a gamer it's nice to see someone with the same mind set!!

EDIT: Also I think some paint chipping might add to the overall effect of the armour.

Hey Dan, excellent looking Librarian and I appreciate the step-by-step photos
This guy looks solid and intimidating, a good combination.
Would you be able to tell me what the piece ontop of his backpack is from?

Thanks, and keep up the good work
