oh fun hmm might have to leave the last few stages for white then if i'm gonna get 1500 done by the end of next weekend then and probably invest in more paint medium

On the bright side I have managed to finish 2 and start 1 this week so far. I might even be able to get 3 done in total this week!

Your guys look really good with the methods you are using already so I'd keep it going that way.

I like what I see, both orks and XIXth Legion. I'm curious to see if you'll be doing more conversions like what you did with the HB scout to keep them from all looking the same as you work towards a full 10th company. Keep it up!

I'm also confused about the bit where you say the Raven Guard don't have any reserve companies as I've never run across that detail. Could you refer me to that source?

OK I got a little distracted this weekend by a Fantasy Campaign and something that got delivered from fudgeworld so haven't finshed my scout snipers and assault marines yet but have to at least put something up so here is my latest fudgy folly.

Ya did get corrected about the Raven guard not having reserve companies is more hinted at than actually stated just where all their companys are autonamous and have been in large engagements in their own right were as most overs keep their reserve until rotated in to replace losses. So apparently they do have reserve companies but they fight as line companies anyway due to their captains being fiercely independent of one another.

Sorry about no update have had a really busy couple of weeks and have gotten next to no hobby done other than finishing my assault marines. back on track now anyway so will be posting pics soon

Thanks for the advise will give it a try. Might actually be time to find where I put the instructions to my camera and build myself a light box. Ahh well might have to put off the great scout shoot until that is sorted but have almost finished the 1500pt army plus a few extras I made coz I was bored mostly just basing to go... Then on to the command squad. Hmm will have to think of something slightly more special to do as may get bored of scouts as have painted 30 now.

Is that brass etch on a FW power fist? I like it.

@ Rayth Phaenor - Yeah there are a lot of the FW bass etch Raven Guard bits mixed in it's just a little fiddly bending them to the right shape.


Other than that getting used to painting white ravens as have painted a silly amount of them now (well I say "white" all the scout ones are dull grey as they are low visibility versions... that's my excuse and I'll be sticking to it) pictures will be following.

Silly as in "I'll never actually field a marine with this particular armament but he looks sweet" silly, or "I gave my assault marines wings instead of arms and sculpted daffy duck bills on their helmets" silly?

As in death skull Gazukull proxy for my Novem Orks that is bigger than my Deff Dreads type silly (its what happens when i see a kit like the dreadknight and have some spare cash). Ahh have some free time this evening so will take some pics and post them

Sorry there haven't been any updates in a long time to say my computer exploded wouldn't be much of an exaggeration some how I actually managed to melt my processor ... Anywho new sparkley computer and updates can resume I kinda got distracted over the past few months so back to my sneaky Marines coz as I see it I've still got 9 scout bikers to paint to complete the project, and as now have a lovely 4 day weekend now I'd better get to it. I've finally decided to revive this thread as to be a counterpoint to my Ork thread. I am building Waaagh Garaghak and I want to rebuild my raven guard into a worthy force to face this menace. Hopefully more to come next week

I have decided I'm going to revive this thread but with a slightly different focus. I'm doing a separate P&M blog about my Ork Waaagh! which is that of the mighty arch killa Garaghak. and My Raven Guard will now serve as a suitable enemy for my Orks culminating in a large diorama of the defence of Deliverance from Waaagh! Garaghak. now my Ork force is quite large, once complete will be around 20,000 points,that means I want this force to be of a suitable size to oppose it and this is where I will start, there will be more to come in the next few days as I figure out what I have to get started.

As a Raven Guard player, both in 30k and 40k I just thought Id point out an inaccuracy in the start of this thread:-
1 - the gene seed of the Raven Guard isnt tainted at all, the novels from the Horus Heresy specifically state it was an experiment by Corax to enhance the gene seed and not all stocks were used.
2 - They do not recruit from Terra at all, just deliverance and are never a company short. They have the full 10 companies of any chapter.
On the painting front the army looks good though Id say the white is too prestine as in looks like they have never seen war. Also the faces arent white enough as the raven guard are almost all albino

You are correct the heresy novels retconned their tainted gene seed, this now being caused by the alpha legion dumping daemon blood into it (they have to replenish genetic stocks from terra not actual recruits I apologise if I did not make that 100% clear in my wording but it was pretty much copy pasted from a codex, I have edited the opening to make it more clear). My raven guard force has moved on a fair amount from this as I sadly let this thread lapse and unfortunately my lighting I had was very yellow and you are right this makes their skin a lot more flush with colour than it actually is, I now have a lovely light box to rectify this. The white was very pristine when I started this thread but models have since been weathered they are also charcoal grey and not jet black as they show up in my early photos.

If you have instagram you can look at a few of my WIP Ravens with really white flesh, which to my credit Gav Thorpe thinks is spot on. It again is the same as my name on here. I was alittle pendatic with that comment sorry but between them and the wolves Im deeply passionate. Same Raven Guard lost the scout rule in the new codex adeptus astartes

Is fair enough. I'm predominantly an Ork player, have been since I started war gaming. Built my raven guard as a scout army, just for something about as far removed from Orks as I thought I could get in 40k and ended up with 5 squads of scouts and 20 scout bikers along with Korvydae and an assault squad in leu of a command squad. I couldn't find information on it, Corax disbanded his command squads after the drop site massacre but don't know if the raven guard reinstated them after the heresy so haven't built one yet. Have got a few extra bits to build and paint, a few flyers and a load of tactical and devistators. Almost finished my fire raptor and smattering of other things shadowy and power armoured.
