Thats why I wanted to make sure it stood out I think the flash might be draining the colour making it blend to closely with the red paint, as you say you want that to pop

Making a Warhammer 40k Ork army Grot Tank Tutorial

hi guys, thought i would show you how i make grot tanks, so i hope you like, below is a photo of what we are going to make.

so then, to start off with you will need thin, med and thick plastic card, i cant tell you the sizes i use as i buy it by sight. you will also need tubes and rods, i buy the evergreeen strip styrene from eBay. i hope this helps.

first off you need a thick ish card to start with, and have a shade for your tracks in you head, ie... the outer, dont make the tank bigger than 2 and 1/2 inch, any bigger then its not really going to be a grot tank, but a tank tank lol

so cut you plastic card to shape, use a compass and metal ruler and make 4 of these.

then make some small square tiles for spacing. place inside, not to close to where the tracks will sit, but spread out so it gives it strength, i made 3 of these and made each set 3 thick, so all in it was 5 slice's of plastic card thick, if that makes scene.

once this is stuck and dry, file and make sure this is all square, i use sandpaper on a flat serface, and just gently run it up and down.

now for the tracks, this is the slowest part but the most important bit, if this looks gak then you might as well stop, you can buy some nice Resin tracks for eBay (Machinator is his user name on here)

ok i startes with cutting a rode to the size of the tracks i was making, then cut some tube and stick it in it with glue, then make the track pads, you might need to rough these up a bit for the look. (i did this or do it at the end, but its a pain in the ass at the end)

ok now to build up the tracks, make sure at the end they fit, you may need to trim more, and also make sure you start at the top and work to the bottom so if there is a mistake, its not going to be seen

in this photo you can see the shape i went for, i used a compass to do this.

you should end up with this

then i just added some detail work, 2 bars on each track pad with a rivet on each, simple and will look good.

now for the body, all i did was cut some card to the size of how wide i wanted the tank to be, then just built up the body, i used some brackets inside to give it some support.

then stick them together, make sure it sits right, ie.......no wobble

ok then, now build the main body, up to you were you take the look now, there are many ways you can do this, i went for the simplest one, dont for get to put a lid on it (no photo, i'm sure you know what i mean)

then i added some brackets and armour plates and of course rivets, again trying to keep it simple. with the armour plates i crushed them in my month with my teeth, this gives it a warn metal look, you can use a Dremel if you want.

i them made some simple fule tanks at the back, just using some tubs (bigger ones) and cap them with p/card and rivet them up.

for the turret i made 2 round bit of P/card, one for the tank top and one for the bottom of the turret, i then put magnets on then so the stick easy, or you can use a rod or some thing.

now for the turret walls, cut to size, ir the highest point, then stick, this bit can be tricky so take your time.

once stuck, stick to the turret bottom, again use some bracket to help support it, remember at the back don't go to high.

once stuck, you can draw the shape on to the side of the turret, then cut out with care, then on a flat bit of sandpaper, rub so its all flat, then add a lid..........simple

then file and add guns like this, i put the gun on a bit of P/card so it will make building up the front of the turret easyer, i'm not going into how i made these, go read my others Tuts and blog on DakkaDakka

now add some small P/card to the front and Rivet up just like i did. then make a square bit of P/card and rough up the edges and stick, this is the base of the hatch.

ok, now for some side detail, these are wheel access hatches (in my head) it helps make the side look better, feel free to do what ever you want.

then make the hatch, easy to do, just copy me.

and this is the exhaust, i bent the pipe with a lighter and then cut to side, dont cut then try and bend, it wont work. then stick.

and here you have it, one grot tank, you can make this with the hatch open with a grot hanging out and with any other weapons too, hope you like.
