Angron looks pretty awesome (both incarnations of him), and those Bloodletters are pretty nice as well. I definitely like the most recent incarnation of Bloodletters. I feel like you painted them all equally well, so it's all in the sculpts and the newest one is, to me, better.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Angron's double chainaxes are very choppy. You're one of my go to blogs when I need inspiration, especially on the mekky side of things (like the Kastelan/dreadnought and the knight you did recently)

Thanks a lot, guys!

@ JustaerinAtTheWall: Thanks, although I don't think I agree with Angron being evil from the start: I think there are several things about Angron that turn him into a rather tragic character: One is that he basically had most of his true potential as a Primarch forever taken away by the Nucerians who hammered the Butcher's Nails into his skull, making sure that every talent he had would forever be channelled towards bloodshed and battle, above all else. But everything could still have turned out reasonably well, had the Emperor not whisked Angron away from his fellow slaves during that one decisive battle, creating the lifelong resentment and thirst for revenge in him that would finally see him join Horus's side. Don't get me wrong, Angron certainly wasn't an angel during his time in the fighting pits, but I'd argue he was only as bad as he needed to be, and the true descent only began when the Emperor took away his brothers and sisters and the death as a free man he had earned for himself.

Oh, and yes, there is going to be more 30k, although I don't have an actual timeframe in mind yet.

So here's a little something I made playing around with Photoshop and Pixlr: An idea of what Angron might have looked like in the arena at Desh'ea:

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

So, time for another update:

It's already the next painting event over at The Bolter & Chainsword, the annual Call of Chaos, and of course I have decided to take this opportunity to paint some stragglers from the ETL and some models that I would really like to see painted at long last. So here's my vow for the event:

The vow consists of:

- a winged Daemon Prince with the mark of Khorne
- an Iron Warriors Apothecary/Chaos Lord
- a Khornate Chaos Lord sent to me a while ago by BrotherJim (and shown earlier on this thread)
- a giant Flesh Hound (counts as Chaos Spawn)
- and last, but not least, seeing how the Call of Chaos is Tzeentch-themed this year, my conversion of Iskandar Khayon you can find on the previous page.

So today I decided to paint the first model of my vow, the giant Flesh Hound. Here's what I have so far:

Still missing quite a bit of detail work, of course, but on the other hand, a big part of the model, the skin in particular, has already been finished. Here's a picture with one of the Bloodletters I painted recently, to serve as a size and colour comparison:

As always, let me know what you think!

Kraut Scientist, very impressed that you had the Thousand Sons head from the Spacewolf sprue end up on an actual head. And then he has a hard won Space Wolf axe too! I would never have noticed where you got the bit from had I not been looking at that exact same bit just today.

Super big fan of your work.

Thanks a lot, guys!

@ kakita: From the moment I first saw that plastic Thousand Sons head, I knew I had to create a conversion around it - it seems to have been copied from Jes Goodwin's brilliant 1991 Thousand Sons Marine, and I was fortunate enough to be able to source it as a separate bit. So when I needed a head for Khayon, I knew its time had come

So here's another update for you guys: I have managed to finish the first model for my Call of Chaos Vow. Here's Fido:

Is that a grenade in his hand, just waiting for the right moment to release to blow up that demonic monster?

Nope? He’s just there with his thought ripped out? Shame...

If you keep butchering Ultramarines like this, I’m going to have to resort to snarky comments or something. Nothing too serious though, don’t want to impact the awesome work you are doing!

I think your red is a hit as always. I also do like your spots of blue and purple to stop the whole model from being too monochromatic.

Could I check that the bases on Fido are made out of wood chip and cork?

@ Nevelon: Haha, sorry, I just need to keep practicing to get some routine painting Ultras for the two remaining models on Daemon-Primarch Angron's display base Snark away, though -- I think I can deal with it.

@ kakita: It's actually just three different kinds of cork: The pieces that make up the actual floor are from an old sheet of cork that's about 3mm thick and that I keep breaking bits off of, the big rock outcropping is a piece of a cork cup coaster that can be bought at Ikea (and excellent source for bigger "rocky" bits). And I am using smaller pieces of ground cork to add some more texture to the surface.

All I can ask is that if you are going to keep butchering them, give them good deaths. Not clean deaths, I expect there to be gore and viscera everywhere. But like the one that Angron cut in half. You could tell he was defiant to the end, even against overwhelming odds.

If we are going to be base decorations, let it be glorious!

Well, as long as everything ends up correctly filed, they would still consider the operation a success, though, wouldn't they?

But yeah, fair enough. Tell you what, the two guys on Angron's base seem competent enough, at least the guy still carefully taking aim at the charging, massive daemon-thing. So I think they are a case of playing fair with the legion. And after that base has been finished, it's another legion's turn to serve as whipping boys for my base decoration -- scout's honour!

Don’t change anything on my account. Just a little good natured banter here. After all, a little blue helps the reds pop.

I just need to stick up for my boys in blue. If not, the Chaplain starts giving me those funny looks and long lectures about spending time in heretical threads again. I’ve been demon-free since some time in the late 90’s, but does he let me forget? Nooooo.
