I have a bunch of the Hirst Arts molds, I also have a good Internet Supplier in the US for bulk dental plaster if anyone is interested. whatever you do, DO NOT try to use plaster of paris, it's not strong enough to take gaming.

I tried to put everything together to see if I had a good density of terrain. This does not include my copses of trees, of which I have enough to cover a square foot and a half if it is all packed together. I also have 3 more bases for additional buildings, I plan on making single storey buildings for things like convenience stores, a bar or a clinic.
I only have two buildings completed (still not sure if I should roof those two with grainy texture to simulate gravel roofing), so if you can keep your comments focused on density or constructive criticism, it would be appreciated. And before anyone says anything, I know I have to put the dry dishes away. Geez, you sound like my mom. ;-)
With those premises in place: waddya think? All buildings ,except the one with a tube on the side, are modular: I can remove the second storey and use it as an impromptu second building. I will make hatches for roofs (rooves?) and modular doors so walkways can be attached to any building in any way.

Looks really good! I'm not sure if you were planning to already, but do you think you will add some more 'accessories' to the board? Things like crates/vehicles etc. just to give some small pieces to hide behind as well as the larger buildings (which look excellent by the way!)
Looks very good though, you will have to post some more pics and a battle report when it is all completed and ready to run!

I just bought a set of pallets for O scale, as well as civvies, so there are going to be crates on those, from Tommygun. I also have two of his dumpsters and iceboxes.
I've been waiting on Paulson to show us some of his pieces. I like his designs, so I want to give him my money.
And I've been busy with my Jotum...

I'm dreading the intro game my brother and I are having soon. It's at his house, and he has a greant total of 5 terrain peices. A foamcore box he likes to call a building, and 4 GW craters.
Even if I bring my terrain (2 forests, a GW ruin, a GW Skyshield, and some large Aquarium tree trunks) the board is going to be pretty open.

I've asked this before but it's playing on my mind again so I thought I'd see if their is any new input from anyone.
Plus it's my thread and I'll be repetitive if I want! *crossedarmsandhuffyface*
So the question is, do you have any ideas for storing terrain boards in small houses?
I live by myself in a small place so I don't have much spare room. That said I would like to build a few tables and find a reasonable way to store them when not in use. Adding to the problem, I don't much like tables that break down so my terrain will probably be built in and the boards will be in one piece.
So far I've considered a trap door to a compartment in the floor but a door that wide might not be structurally strong enough for walking on. Also there might not be room as I haven't looked down there yet.
Another thought I has was to give them lids that turn the boards into secure boxes allowing me to safely store them on their sides on one side of a room. This still takes up loads of room though.
Lastly I thought about transferring the floor compartment idea to the ceiling. I have a loft which I don't really use so I have lots of room up there. The problem here is that I don't much like the idea of suspending so much hard work that high up and it definitely can't be safe to have something of that weight hanging above you. Not to mention how I would actually get them in and out.
Ideally I'd convert the loft into an mezzanine giving me an extra room for gaming. There is no way I can afford that any time soon though so that'll have to wait.
So anyone got a better idea?

How about modular 1' or 2' sections that can be stored in a box of some sort? I've also seen boards made of wood with hinges and they just fold up. Then you could say just store it behind/under the sofa (couch) or something like that.
I've also been seeing some really nice urban table mats. You just need to roll it up. One of those and some buildings and you are set.

Non collapsable tables with built in terrain don't generally translate to easily storable. You're going to want to go for one or the other.
Space saving measures generally boil down to a modular board or battlemat and removable terrain.
That said, it's really easy doing this for Infinity. 6 2'x2' boards set up as city blocks, with half roads along the edges, combine into a good 6'x4' board with full roads between the city blocks. Buy HDF buildings from your preferred provider and some scatter terrain, and it's done. The table will store nicely since you can split it up how you want, you can just throw the HDF buildings in a box, and you can change the layout of the table easily each game by shifting buildings around.

I pledged for a bit of it to use as either underground facilities or hostile environment habitats.
I'll be using it for Infinity after it gets in. It should make for great tight firefights.

Thanks guys, so it looks like these two concepts just don't match up. :(
...Although, when CDK mentioned storing the smaller modular sections under the sofa it got me thinking. I'm going to be getting a new bed at some point. My current double is basically a big box so it pretty much goes to the ground but if I get something with a little height then I should have ample storage space for a table or two underneath. Even if my tables are 'static' then a standard double bed is slightly larger. Now I just need to find a bed that's high enough!
Thanks guys!

It's not the bed you're looking for, but a frame to raise the bed up! Those corridors are pretty sweet-looking, it looks like it matches the MAS stuff more or less.

Particularly the platformer and hexagon, if it holds week I wouldn't mind using glue I just need 2-4 structures.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

The platformer and hexagon sets work pretty well. I have a couple of each. The Hexagon makes nice bits of cover or smaller buildings and the Platformer can be used for raised walkways at various levels. The hexagon clips together pretty securely so doesn't really need glue but the platformer stuff probably would need gluing to make it stay together securely especially if you are using it at a store/ club.

Kind of prompted by the new MAS decals, has anyone got any cool ideas for Grafitti?
I think its a pretty good way of helping to introduce the sense of scale with terrain (i.e. so it doesn't just look like a block of wood etc.) and is actually pretty straightforward to make yourself - either using decal paper or even just normal printer paper and working from that.
I'm just in the process of finding a couple of cool bits of art to make my MAS apartment blocks look a bit more run-down, so does anyone else have any good ideas for it?

I think you could just use random Asian symbols with extra bits added for graffiti? Otherise, I don't think graffiti would change that much in the Infinity timeline, not always instantly understandable:
That's the only problem with the Infinity universe IMHO, lack of a specific "look" yet. So far, hexagons in the architecture seems to be the only definitive "Infinity look"
But outside of major cities, humans living off the land would still build things organically from local materials- I don't think every human building would be festooned with perfect geometric shapes, not in wartime anyways..

Those buildings look fantastic Dsteingass!
I think Infinity has got a really varied look to it at the moment - the problem is that perhaps the background hasn't done the mileage yet to get fully ingrained on the fan's consciousness. Unlike something like a history game, where the settings are obvious (or even some fantasy games) or 40k which is well documented, Infinity still leaves something of a grey area for the creator to fill. For the terrain I've made, I've had a fair number of "that looks nice... but I don't imagine it being like that" comments regarding the style I've tried. Which is nice, because it means people can feel free to add their own touches to it. or try something new, and still be valid.
I think though, looking at a lot of the artwork, reading about it, and just extrapolating from our imaginations, it's possible to get several different interpretations of a possible terrain style (these are ideas I have seen in an action, or have read others commenting about):
- The general future sci-fi style as shown in the books, in the artwork and CB's own terrain pieces. Manga movies (Ghost in the shell) mixed with Mass Effect style hab blocks that are now made by several HDF producers. Future vehicles, citizens - this is probably the most common.
- You can throw in a bit less or more 'Blade Runner' to make it change the feeling of the city. Something more clean, or in my own case in trying to model Acontencimento (a more recently colonised world) that started well, was full of promise and had massive investment, but then started to lose money - the infrastructure and mod-cons are all there, but the signs of destitution (un-cleaned buildings and roads, smashed conveniences, grafitti, are starting to creep in)
- Like you say the clean, hexagonal almost 'surgery room' style of buildings with lots lots of geometrics and hi-tech, can be an option. My friend is trying to make what he imagines an Aleph city to be like - hes' getting lots of sheets of plastic with laser cut shapes for the ground and featureless buildings which fit this pattern, with massive 'trunks' (of cabling perhaps) serving like roads between them. Almost like a magnified copy of a circuit board. Absolutely everything is designed to be functional rather than aesthetic, but that in itself can create something that is inadvertently quite beautiful.
- Finally, Paradiso has now brought new options to the fore. A jungle world - again the hab-blocks and signs of future technology can help differentiate itself of a Jungles of Lustria board for WFB, or something similar, but you can go one step further and copy the art in the books - loads of alien vegetation, with impossible colours. I'm trying to make something different again - a table filled with coniferous trees, to represent the more polar regions of the planet (in this case - harbouring a secret research base ) Again, I think it's possible to go for more of a 'mass effect' look here. Perhaps just a few Antenociti hab blocks and a sci-fi jeep from them would be enough to give the board an identity, so that people know they are seeing Infinity the moment they see it.
I think the terrain, rather than being seen as a curse (because you need loads of it), presents a massive opportunity and is really one of the strengths of the game in my eyes. Possibly because I was so sick of so many years of playing games where people just didn't bother at all, beyond a few crudely assembled but unpainted plastic ruins and broken trees, it's nice to see so many people trying to put maximum effort and imagination into their Infinity terrain. Long may it continue, and now we just have to try and persuade a few of the HDF producers to drop their prices a bit

Pacific - there are other examples of graffiti on the MAS walls if you are looking for inspiration. Or were you after some infinity art to use as a base for some graffiti like the new decals?
And D i think the lack of a 'look' for the terrain is a good thing too. Infinity games can take place on any of a number of different worlds that would have different types of buildings to suit. Ice worlds, desert planets, new colonies, space station/ interior, urban/ industrial areas. I think the current HDF buildings suit this nicely with MAS providing urban/ residential buildings, Warmill/ Sarissa producing industrial/ colonial outpost type buildings. And if you want something else you can always scratch build. Not having a defined 'look' means people are free to come up with what they want and there have been some great examples of themed tables for haqqislam/ yu jing etc on the official forums. So i think its good that you're free to make stuff that isn't just gothic with skullz.

Oh I agree, it's a good thing, but TBH, we're all sort of brainwashed into waiting for that definitive style to be "official" I actually like the generic miniature background terrain in the main rulebook, mostly because it's built with commonly-available hobby shop materials and has some great painting/weathering techniques applied.

Hey guys, don't normally post my blog stuff on here, but I've done something a bit different as a centre piece for my board (and really to finish it off).
It's a digital photo frame that has been built into a converted MAS apartment. Still some work to go on it (inc. covering the cable with some plastic stripping) but otherwise complete.
I've got some more details on my blog about it, any C&C very welcome!
