I think that 2000AD as a whole is probably a bigger influence than Dune, though Dune is probably bigger than any individual story, even Nemesis the Warlock.

Moorcock is obviously an influence, but at least somewhat remediated by the time you get to 40K -- he was probably a bigger influence on Fantasy than on 40K, but Fantasy of course influenced 40K in turn. Though there are interviews with early GW/Citadel creatives who explicitly cited Moorcock, I suspect that RuneQuest also influenced that aspect of Fantasy (and thus, to some extent, 40K). RuneQuest was a big seller for GW in the early to mid 80s, and featured in WD quite a lot, so most of GWs writers will have been very familiar with it. It has its own version of Chaos, of course, very much focused on the Broo (proto-Beastmen).

That ornithopter is pretty cool. I like it, I'll probably snag it for my Dune-esque figures by Akula.

I personally think Dune is a significant inspiration for 40K, but Nemesis the Warlock takes the cake. It provides the fundamentals for the entire future-gothic undying emperor alien hating culture.

I like how Ramshackle has a special vibe to it, (Been waiting to have the nerve to order the vehicles for my IG.

The rusted paint works on the robots is a nice touch and I sense some of a touch of the Fallout like universe blendered into what ever else influenced the idea of the game setting and other aspects.

"Your mumblings are awakening the sleeping Dragon, be wary when meddling the affairs of Dragons, for thou art tasty and go good with either ketchup or chocolate. "
Dragons fear nothing, if it acts up, we breath magic fire that turns them into marshmallow peeps. We leaguers only cry rivets!

I must say that I didnt make the Ornithopter, its made by an Oldhammer buddy. I did the wings though as he ran out of time to get his "metal" wings made so I plonked on the printed ones and painted up the first cast as payment for letting me sell the model. There are some shots of his idea on his blog.

If anyone wants this model please email me!

As for warhammer, especially 40k, are there actually ANY original ideas in it? I was talking to Tony Hough recently, and he openly admitted that the look of chaos marines were spawned by saying "hey, lets mix Geiger with space marines". But as they say, no act of genius is generated in a vacuum. They are always an amalgam of previous ideas.

Any chance of seeing the resin of the ornithopter? The paintjob in that preview obscures the detail a bit in a Jackson Pollock kind of way..

Im kind of waiting for Scalene to finish his idea of the wings before releasing it with a choice of wings. When I do that I will release photos of the parts and the unpainted model.

In the mean time, if anyone wants a thopter with the transparent wings please pm me or email me.

I've been threatening to re-invigorate my Orks for ages.

If I get that, I'll end up breaking out the Gobsmasha templates that were in WD back in the Rogue Trader days.

Where will the madness end?

The Epicast one, there should be 2nd ed rules for it which could also be used to write some house rules for 7th. The Ramshackle model will make for a cheaper Killcannon-BW alternative, too

My internet buddy sent the vehicle to me to cast. I have painted it, it should be released next week.

I have also put up a bunch of Alien Heads on my web shop. I have also added a 4 head set multi pack, so you can get loads of heads cheap cheap cheap. Well, less than 40p each delivered to your door!

It is possible to build a Gobsmasha using Rmashackle bits and bobs......

Oh? Please tell - a parts guide would be appreciated!

In between that new vehicle, the borer machine, and this comment, I can feel a Ramshackle order coming on...

"All GW will gain is my increased contempt for their business practices." - AesSedai
"Its terrible the way that conversion kit is causing him to buy 2 GW kits... " - Mad4Minis
"GW are hard to parody, as they are sometimes so stupid that the best in comedy couldn't beat them at their own game..." - Paradigm

If you want to have a go at building the Gobsmasha I would recommend the following parts. Im happy to do all the bits for £20 including delivery.

Probably go for the Pug body and engine, plus the gun set from that. The hatch can be swapped out for a bigger one too.

With large tractor wheels. Im happy to supply the wheel arches from the Rhebok too.

Maybe the IG cabin instead as an alternate front? Would need more conversion work, but is a bit more orcky

I have that 2nd ed model. I have a Gobsmasha too. It's kinda strange seeing it re-released. I made a braincrusha a while back to fit the 2nd ed theme. I never considered the lungbursta as a base for a braincrusha.. that's interesting.

Sooo.. if we modify models and recast them it's cool? Gonna put some spikes and hatches on some Ramshackle stuff and recast it and say I sculpted it!

Im not sure where this is coming from, but, if you want to do that, why not come and work for me? Also, good luck making enough money to make it worth while and at the same time undercut me!

This model was scratch built by my friend and sent to me. I dont do recasts.

MLaw, it's completely different in size for a start to the old Epicast one, with much different details...

I'm sure the poster you are responding to doesn't understand that it wasn't a recast... like you, I'm not quite sure why.

Apologies, mine was in storage and the similarities are extremely notable. I did go rummage mine out and yeah I see that they're different if not based on the same design.

As to the possibility of working for you, when can I start? I'm doing a bit of work for a game company out of Poland at the moment but I am sure I could squeeze you in

Aha, well I had never seen the Epicast model before, I have just googled it.

MLaw Im always up for submissions but I cant afford to pay! The Boom Wagon was made by a friend of mine in exchange for casts. So if you want casts of your stuff please message me.!
