Now for something a bit different:

This is the Sump Thing, a living plant monster from murky depths of the sump! Furious at the hivers that have polluted his sump, and the gangs that have used the sump to dispose of corpses, the Sump Thing has turned his implacable wrath on the Underhive! The rotten corpses march with him from the depths!

I've made the Sump Thing and his zombie horde for a special Necromunda mini-campaign which includes variations on the 'It Came From the Sump' and 'Tales of the Underhive' scenarios - basically a rag-tag group of gangers team up to fend off the zombie hordes. Sump Thing is a cross between Swamp Thing (the Alan Moore run is amazing) and Man-Thing. To make things interesting, the Sump Thing will cause terror and any failed tests in hand to hand will cause you to spontaneously combust - whatever knows fear burns at the touch of the Sump Thing!

I've painted all this in a very short time mainly using the airbrush so they don't hold up to close scrutiny, but the overall effect is pretty good. Sump Thing is largely made from GS (if anyone can spot the base model I will be very impressed) and has lots of plants and mushrooms growing all over him. The zombies were all (very quickly) converted with vines and plant life growing all over them, made from GS, flock, textured paint and tissue paper.

Maaaaan... I wanna play!!

Seriously, though! That cheezy 80s movie poster is the bomb! As is the modelling for your Sump Thing and its crew! I'm guessing they'll be "tougher" by certain stat increase so they can make it into H2H with the gangers?

However it goes, I love it! Please post batreps with pics!

-Remi

P.S. - Are you GMing? If not, is Sparktacus and crew going to go against this abomination!?

-EDIT- Started a new page, so I posted the Sump Thing work. Didn't want people missing out on this awesomeness with just my text.

Not quite that old, I don't think it is going to be possible to guess from these photos.

Roughly based on the old Swamp Thing logo. Seriously great comics although a bit of an uncomfortable amount of plant monster romance going on.

There are a bunch of rules for these things already, we will probably tweak them a bit (haven't put too much thought into it yet). I know most people have very limited H2H in Necromunda but on our board we have lots - the more scenery the more H2H occurs. Necromunda just needs a lot of scenery to work properly. I do quite like the idea of Sump Thing being able to teleport though, as both of his namesakes can.

Are you GMing? If not, is Sparktacus and crew going to go against this abomination!?

I don't think we will need a GM, but not sure if Sparktacus will show up. In theory it should be a few gangers from several gangs all teaming together, we'll see.

I've said this before, but I'd absolutely kill to be part of your gaming group

Well sure I mean, if you kill an existing member of the group I think you get entry by default and you inherit their models. To be honest we could use more players as the Ash Waste campaign we have planned might only be the two of us! But I think Edinburgh is about an 10 hour round trip.

Bear in mind I did do them all very fast! Although I originally started Sump Thing back when I did the scenery competition with the sump pools.

Wicked stuff. Great poster and the quick gang look really good.

I reckon the base model is an old hive tyrant.

I think I was the only person that liked that model, much better than the replacement.

ooh, one of them - it looks much better with it's disguise on methinks

In fact, it kinda reminds me of the old fenbeast they released way back for the WFB Albion Dark Emmisary supplement - although I only have a very vague recollection of it and it may in fact be totally different

Totally agree the swamp version looks better

And I think they look somewhat similar, though Bruticus's version is less stooped methinks.

Edit- That's stooped as in less in a stooping posture, not a horrible and unfortunate spelling of stupid, I promise.

Are those mantic zombies?

Yep they are Mantic, really good value kit and so much better than the terrible GW zombies. Only slight problem is that one of the zombie faces looks quite like Bruce Willis but that can be overlooked. I got them a while back before the sci-fi version (well the sci-fi kitbash offer thing) came out, although these are probably better for my purposes.

My Sump Thing is mainly based on Man-Thing for looks. Although he is growing lots of stuff on his back more like Swamp Thing. I mainly made him as a joke when I realised I could call it Sump Thing.

You shouldn't have give it away so quickly, I totally came here to guess that model! I knew it was a tyranid warrior by the leg shape and the thin torso!

Awesome stuff, though. I was looking through my 1st edition .pdfs and read the It Came From the Sump article and knew I would have to build one at some point. Yours is totally insane, though!I love all the sump zombies running with him. Really cool!

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Dude! They came out really great for being made so fast... probably all the tissue paper/moss slash dirtiness of it does the work for you. Guaranteed this will inspire more people to do similar theme in the future....

my one thought... didn't the set come with that one zombie that's like clawing his way out of the ground? would be awesome to see a few in process of emerging from the sump....You could even do one that's just an arm and bit of head sticking out for a joke

Yeah I though they were mantic zombies, I have assembled three of them, but still have 3 boxes to do. I am adding IG helmets and items to mine to make them look like they used to be planetary defense forces.

I've finished painting the first member of my Inq28 warband - the heavy servitor. He's been extensively genebulked and is lugging a portable generator on his back, as well as mining/excavation equipment that could probably be used in hand to hand combat if push came to shove. He even has a tow hook in case he has to pull any chimeras out of a quagmire.

Tried some OSL and some new weathering techniques like the mud on his drill and the cracked paint on his chainfist. Not the best photos, the contrast is a bit extreme.

PS the base is a cork base supplied by Andy_T, I really like bases that blend into the board and scenery rather than looking like an elaborate podium..

I really like the look of this guy. The helmet in particular looks awesome and all the little details just fit perfect together. How is the fat guy on the throne coming along? Been looking forward to see him finished

Finished the Arbite for my Inq28 gang. I might go back and smarten up a few things (like the bases for one) on my models if I have time, just want to get them all done to a good standard first.

The Adeptus Arbite Wojek Itkovius was 'suggested' to Inquisitor Tsengir as a permanent member of his retinue by Lord Valthor. Itkovius is Valthor's man and resolute in his duty - to him there is only the certainty of right and wrong and if he can't categorise something easily he struggles to make sense of it. Although not a stupid man he knows he is not astute enough to understand the situation he has found himself in, nor does he truly know if Tsengir is a friend, an enemy, a madman or a genius. He takes his work and his assignment seriously, and makes no secret of reporting to Lord Valthor but his reports lack much critical substance. He praises Tsengir even as he worries that he is being mocked or used. For his part, Tsengir has warmed to Itkovius as he likes the man's simple nature, appreciates his difficult position, and he knows he is dependable in combat.
