Ice, I'm with you: I'm not convinced either. You could turn the wheel where it is. In fact, it was inspired by this kind of idea: http://www.strangecosmos.com/content/item/183025.html. I'm just not sure I like it. It looks like it would be hard to reach. I could put it at his hip (right not left as there's stuff on his left). Can't really put it acroww the wings because the Bolt Guns are there. I don't think i can get it on is back because of the pack and the seat.
Do you have any other ideas?
Well, if nothing else, as WM said, he's "super magic".
I teally love the look of the Librarian, but Inwish I'd planned him better....

You have no idea...!
So, when I first put him together, I cut the sword off the DV Librarian and glued it to a new grip. To do that, I used a pin to, um, pin it together. And it hit me! Put a magnet in his, and he can be casting a spe... I mean psychic power or he can wield his sword! Cool! No, it didn't work. The magnet or the pin isn't big enough to actullay control the sword. Oh, it sticks... it just hangs... limply. Not quite the image we want. So, now it's super-magically stuck on his bike.
Though, I could use a paper clip to attach it so it looked like it was floating...!

Got a really cool supply drop from Whalemusic360 yeasterday:
A couple of Mk V Marines, but check out the cool Purity Seal he drew on the envelope! Fantastic! If I could figure out how to turn that image into a decal, I'd use it on my marines. (Hey, Ramos, you have any ideas about making that into a custom decal?) Thanks, WM!
Solar-lion also stopped by to give me 2 Beakie helmets! Very cool. So, I was able to finish up building my bike squad with the additional parts. Unfortunately, it was too late, and I was too tired, by the time I was done that I didn't get any pictures. Sorry. I'll try to take a couple tonight.
Alas, no floating swords were built... I think it it'll just have to stay magically attached until after Adepticon....

TO THE PRIMERMOBILE!
What? I thought it was a thing we were doing....
Not as much progress as I had hoped for (stupid work), but primer and base coat on the bikes:
Even got some primer on the Termies.
Also, I've got this nifty banner that I think will work well with the Fire Hawks:
What do you think? Keep it or leave it?
Painting it is a little bit in the future, but I'd like your thoughts on colors. Right now, I'm thinking
Ground = black with red cracks (like lava)
Flames = Red, Orange, Yellow at top (not sure on this as I understand the hottest flame, at the center, should be yellow/white)
Phoenix = Yellow w/ red feathers
Sun = Yellow
Sky = Blue?
Border = Yellow
Background = ??
I want to write "Zhoros" on it somewhere....
Ideas?
Thanks!

I like the banner. Save it for last though as it's optional.
Try to keep the banner somewhat consistent with your chapter's theme. Who do you intend to carry it? I'd scrape the Egyptian glyph off the bottom. One of the traitor legions is famous for it's Egyptian stylings.

I agree, nice banner, but loose the eye of whatever at the bottom. I might even replace the banner topper bird with something more imperial (like an Aquila). Keep pounding away, and remember you have backup for the asking.

Good to see you're making progress!! Its all looking good so far. Re:Flames- Starts at white (rare- only in Ultra hot fires) then goes Blue, red, orange, yellow. A good way to get a feel of what a color scheme would look like on that would be to use photoshop to colorize the photo. I kinda feel that the banner top should be swapped for an aquilla as well, as the elf bit (I think thats what thats from) is a bit too smooth and non-angular for imperial stuff. Granted just personal opinion,. do as you will ^^ Oh and to convert that envelope to a decal, best bet would be to scan it into a computer then print it out. Then there's the Ancient and incredibly hard method of varnishing the piece heavily and then sanding away the backing paper till only the varnish and ink are left. VERY difficult, but from what I understand its the old school method of decals.

Thanks, Gents!
@Gits & WM: The banner is for the objective, so yeah, it's last. I love the Thousand Sons, but yeah, I should remove the Egyptian glyphs. Good call.
@WM & Ramos: Good call on the banner top. I like the phoenix, but the Aquila will look better. Thanks.
@Ramos: Thanks for he pointers, mate!
@Graven & SL: Thanks!
So, tried to do some painting tonight. Airbrush gave me some difficulty - well, no doubt I mixed the paint poorly. The result was that not enough of the first highlight - the dark yellow, naturally - went on the model and too much of the second highlight went on. I thought I had plenty of dark yellow, but after the sevond highlight, it looked brown. So, now I don't know if I even got that highlight on. Bother. I tried shading to see how it would come out. It did look better but didn't match the other models. So now I think I have to try it again. I couldn't even get my camera to take a decent picture to show you how it came out. No doubt it's the result of rushing to get work done. Meh.
So, that's it for tonight. Sorry, mates.

Stick to it YB, you'll get it. Airbrushes can be very tricky. Remember to clean the very tip and the barrel of the brush. Doesn't take much to really much things up. Soaking the parts in a bit of ethanol or better yet, acetone (nail polish remover) will remove the old paint in a jiffy... just make sure you don't soak any rubber or plastic parts... especially in the acetone.

Hi, Everybody.
Sorry I've been gone for a while. This past week was actually my Spring Break, which under other circumstances would have yielded some great hobby time. Unfortunately, I had some family obligations. My wife and I flew down to Texas to pack up my mom's house because she's moving to Nebraska. Once we finished that and got my mom on the plane, we drove her car back to Wisconsin. Yeah, it's complicated. In any case, that ate up my entire break and left almost no time for models.
Anyway, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your encouragement, but especially to thank Solar-lion, who generously took some of my uncompleted models to work on while I was away, and to Gitsplitta, whose generosity never ceases to amaze me. Not only is he donating two Mk 1 Razorbacks to the Fire Hawks, but he's assembling them and starting to paint them for me, too! There's not really much more I can say, except thank you. Thank you very much.
Gits has posted a picture of his progress in his Mantis Warriors plog, here.
+++++

Thanks, Gits! I appreciate your encouragement.
The acetone works great, by the way. Definitely makes a difference. I also noticed that I seemed to have too much paint in the airbrush cup. I was getting a sputtering effect but noticed that the paint flowed more smoothly when there was less paint in the cup. I'm not sure why that should be, but I'm using less paint now. It means filling the cup more often, but the paint seems to be flowing better. I also fiddled a bit with the settings and am getting better control now, I think.
+++++
I did get some decent work done today.
Redid the botched paint job on the bikes:
I'm still not happy with the final painting, but this is much better than it was. Actually, the airbrushing came out fine, but the Sepia wash sucks, especially on the bikes. I tried to push the wash into the recesses, but it still pooled too much and came out a bit splotchy. Even some of the marines came out that way. I'm disappointed, but I guess I can live with it for a couple of weeks, anyway.
By the way, Gits mentioned that an airbrush makes it much easier to put down base coats quickly. This is true. But, an airbrush is no substitute for skill and experience. I put down my base coat quickly, but then botched the wash. I am quite happy Gits is doing the base on the Razorbacks, because I would screw it up. Thanks again, my friend.
Close up of the Librarian:
The light washed out the pic, sorry. I was hoping it would show the color better.
Close up of the sergeant:
This one's a little better. He came out the best of them all.
Built the Hawkwing Command Squad:
Hmm, "Hawkwing" or "Hawkwind"?
And tossed in a couple quick ideas...
... brackets for the Libby's Force Sword:
Very rough. Just tacked on some plasticard with Elmer's. Better? Thoughts?
...and cleaned off that annoying Elf glyph from the banner:
Unfortunately, I don't have an Aquila for a banner topper. Anyone know where I can get one? I did have this nifty Dark Angel bit; how does it look?
As always, C&C welcome.
Thanks for reading.

I dont know if you did something between the last photos and these, but the color looks lovely. Its a much warmer yellow/orange now rather than an earthier tan/brown.
Stuff is looking good so far! I like the weapon rack for the libby but dont fret too much on him- pop more paint on more dudes, and come back to him later if he needs it ^^
As to the banner topper, I dont know about the DA bit. It seems lopsided to me just cause of the design.
If you wanted an aquilla, the ones from rhino kits may work. Take two and glue em back to back and that might be exactly what you're looking for!
Keep it up! not too much longer now

Nice work YB. Those bikes are looking great. Get some other colors on them and you'll be off to a good start. Begin with the basics... tires and bolt gun metal. Then you can think about the other details.
Hey, can you point me to an electronic image of the Fire Hawk badge? I might be able to add decals of sorts onto the Razorbacks I'm doing for you. Same technique I use on my own vehicles and it seems to work out well.

Usually the pics never do the figure justice.. It is something you have to learn to do well ( I certainly am Hit and miss here ) . Once you have filled in the black and other colors the sepia won’t seem so bad. It looks overwhelming now as that’s all there is.
Pic’s of your assault Squad soon.

See, now, this is what I'm talking about!
Gitsplitta's Fire Hawk Razorback:
There's no way I could have pulled that off, airbrush or not.
Thanks, man!
+++++
@Ramos: Thanks! Unfortunately, that color yellow is the result of the lighting and an old camera. They're the earthier color I posted before (when I took the picture with a camera I borrowed from work and a lightbox). Also, see Gits' tank above. The weapon rack took all of 30 seconds. I'm not spending much time on it or the banner, but just tossed it together at the end of a session. Painting is definitely the priority!
@Gits: Thanks! Black, Leadbelcher, and Doombull Brown are on tap for tonight.
How's this?
Though, I have to say, that's going way above and beyond "help". Not turning you down, mind you, just pointing it out.
@ SL: Thanks. Looking forward to see what you did... and getting them back so I can finish them.

No, actually. I thought about it originally, but was put off by the $15/can price tag. This is a base of Sand Brown followed by a highlight of Ochre Yellow and then Golden Yellow (though my pot is decidedly whiter), all Vallejo, followed by a Sepia wash. The pictures didn't come out very well. Sorry.
Although, I did see these at a local hobby shop the other day:
Liquitex Spray Paints.
I considered picking up a couple of cans and giving them a try - they have some lovely colors: Bronze Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, etc. - but $12/can is still a bit pricey... Has anyone given them a try?
