Yea, I don't think it will kill ranged all together, but with the few casters who might be concerned it will be a nice boost.
A shame you can't pitch the hits over to the swarms of souless beasties they have

Wow! $30 for a GM kit? My D&D screen is some printed sheets on a card board box, because I wasn't going to spend $15 on 4 pieces of card board, and I never considered actually buying character sheets or encounter sheets (I call them printed downloads and scrap paper)... character sheets get beer and snacks spilled on them and notes scribbled and erased on a near-constant basis, and I don't care about an encounter as soon as it's over, other than in the abstract.

I'm not a fan of the horses for those Greylord Outriders. A couple are alright, but the head forward pose just doesn't look right to me. Par for the course for PP cavalry, I suppose. I'm glad the price isn't as bad as the metal heavy cav though I'm still not keen on the price. I'll not be pre-ordering these, but I will give them another look once they are in people's hands I start seeing some other painted examples, or maybe even the models in person.

Not particularly... GW used the same three horses (barded, light, elven) for something like a decade.

I think it's fine to keep those consistent to cut down costs, though prefer GW's older choice to give some different metal heads, but just can't stand those terrible looking horses (i.e. the principle is fine, the execution is...ugly.

I would have preferred kossites for their light cav, though.

Indeed, but it's showing even more modularity for PP. So far it's been jacks and I think the medium based infantry. Interchanging pieces between factions could lead to some interesting speculation. For instance, will they reuse these again to make Menoth light cavalry? What would that mean for the riders? It could mean Idrian light cav.

Umm, well, I feel that it's actually pretty distinctly limiting. The PP forums at least had the complaint that Khador horses are repeatedly described as special large/hearty breeds, yet look identical. Similarly, I believe the idrian ones are supposed to be particularly small... yet they'll inevitably be the same size

(and, yes, idrian cav would be the obvious choice, based on fluff)

I can see that it's limiting the variety, but it could also help them churn out more models.

I don't care about the bit less variety because they're different units in different factions. It also makes the plastic/metal that I'd previously dismissed as more realistic. Plastic horses that are shared across multiple factions the each have their own different metal riders. Good cost saving measure.

There's an unreleased unit in Thyra's theme force called the "Flame Bringers", that seems like a good bet for the Protectorate light cavalry. Nothing confirmed, though.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."

Wow... is that commercial seriously that old? No wonder no one else in my cohort knows what the hell I am referencing. :( (Also, beyond how weird it is that they are eating random strangers' food that fell into their own, what is the deal with the super creepy old man watching with that... that grin?)

The horses do strike me as a little odd, but I don't think it is the heads; horses actually do that when they are really running hard.

Still, I agree they look a little... odd. Maybe they are a little too rotund, like ponies instead of lankier and more muscled like working horses?

And I am SO glad they didn't make cossite light cav. Can you imagine them with bows or muskets? I would have had to buy an entire new faction, and my wallet cannot handle that now! It would have been too much awesome to deal with.

I think the problem is that the horses look like they're galloping really fast, but the riders don't.

Excellent point! I hadn't put my finger on it, but you are right, those riders should all be leaning forward, and probably have one hand on the saddle or reins. Leaning backwards like some do, that's a bad plan!

Well, I prefer my models looking good to having more of them, so, umm, yeah. I'd rather have 5 expensive models I'll paint because the minis inspired me to paint them than 10 cheaper models that I never paint because they're ugly and eventually trade off because I'm sick of those ugly (and unpainted) minis.

I still think that there's something disproportioned about those horses, but you're definitely on to something with the incongruity.

It's danger of recycling only part of the sculpt. Original riders didn't look quite so awkward:
