Interesting. Do we see another two month release for Mar/Apr, or is Dwarves a 2 month release followed by 40k in April?

Does this mean 9th in July? And lol the poor Bretonnians. 2 straight editions across a decade with no book.

Skaven got that right before 8th and their book is fine, so I would assume WE will get the same future proof treatment.

Depending on how that "Ravening Hordes" type reset rumor plays out.

Ah, I forgot about the supposed reboot.

I only think Beastmen and Bretonnians would need any specific updates to bring them at least somewhat in line with the current books. Tomb Kings possibly as well I guess.

Honestly, tomb kings are fine. I've never understood why 95% of the Internet actually thinks they're crap. They're a skill based army-you can't just point and click. A good general can and will ruin any point and click army with them. I fully agree that beastmen and bretonians need help. Also, all chaos books should be able to ally again. 7th and 8th not allowing this has been utter crap.

So true. I'd love if they went back closer to 6ths version. Although the inclusion of allies rules in the next edition would work too.

True, but Beastmen were the last book before the new edition and they didn't pan out well at all. Will be more dependent on the overall strength of the book. Skaven was a strong book in 7th and remained valid in 8th. Beastmen was weak in 7th and remained weak in 8th. Worst, there may be certain ideas that go into the book because they plan to mesh with draft ideas for 9th, but then those draft ideas don't make it into 9th. The signature Beastman spell made sense when there was talk of the magic phase moving to before the movement phase. There looks to be 4 - 5 kits for the dwarfs, suspect that Hammers and Ironbreakers will be a combo kit. The Orc Crusher and Grudge Thrower may be another. How they would work together, I have no idea. Glade Guard and Way Watchers could be a single kit also as they share common themes. War Eagles will just be reboxed Hobbit Eagles

The hobbit eagles are quite nice, pretty much every HE player I know uses them now.

A plastic grudge thrower would be nice provided they don't make it a huge kit. Plenty of opportunity for good plastic kits with both dwarves and WE, luckily I don't play either so next year shouldn't cost me too much(unlike this year were my 3 main armies all got new books and models).

I'd really like for these last few books to at least bring the full line into 2 tiers of "top" and "the rest which are pretty equal" instead of having 3 or 4 books which are nearly unusable except by those with a natural talent for how to use them. I think the Warhammer Battles reporting site is a good indicator of just how bad some of the books are in comparison to the rest, Beastmen being the lowest rated and lowest win count by a good amount.

Unless there is a mahoosive change to the look of either Ironbreakers or Hammerers, I doubt they'll be combo'd with each other - though the might be combo'd with new units.

Still hoping this is all wrong, mind you, and we get left alone until 9th, for the sake of the rune system...

I'm skeptical about the validity of these rumours. It's really early to know exactly what is going to be in a release that's not rumoured to be due for over 6 months.

Regardless, with what's listed, the model breakdown bodes well for bitz ordering. Empire and orc + gobbo armies will be cheap to start (at least with regards to their core).

As to the set's other contents, I'm not entirely sure I understand what's being said. Are we looking at something like Ravening Hordes and then a basic introduction to the game's rules (different than the current rule book in Islands of Blood, which covers them entirely)? I suppose I can see why GW would go that direction, what with people bitz ordering the rule book instead of buying the 100 dollar large format book.

Given Tim the Thief is the source of those rumors, they are as solid and reliable as a Styrofoam Hugo. His previous rumors have so far been coming up false.

Though Harry did drop some more info on warseer:
I don't come here so much these days but its good to know nothing much has changed.
I would bet good money that nothing has got moved, pushed, nudged or jiggered in any way.
Projects pretty much start on time and finish on time. There is no room in the schedule to just push things up a month with two months notice. Heck, White Dwarf is finished three months ahead of release.
I have known for a while that Dwarves would be the first fantasy army release of 2014.
When I heard back in the summer they were finished, photographed and the book done is entirely consistent with a February/March release (based on previous time scales).
So that is when I am expecting them.

I am expecting the Hammers/Ironbreakers to look a lot like this guy:
(Except with even heavier armour and less Dwarf visible ).

I got the impression that they didn't think they had got the concept right for the Dwarves. They have, in Citadel's long history essentially been short fat Bretonnians, short fat vikings or short fat Empire soldiers. My sense of it was they wanted to get away from the traditional, generic Dwarf and move toward the 'Warhammer Dwarf'. A long lived yet dwindling race with incredible skills in crafting armour would value each Dwarf life highly and would not send a Dwarf into battle without the most complete ... and beautifully crafted armour and weapons known to man ... or indeed Dwarf.

Note those images are concept art from Warhammer Online.

I don't really get the WE rumors. GW hasn't been replacing existing plastic kits, so replacing the Glade Guard and Dryad kits that people don't seem to hate doesn't ring true. Maybe new Eternal Guard and new Treekin, I'd believe those instead.

The starter box rumors also seem suspect. I guess GW could sell a starter box without the compete rules (no magic, incomplete special rules), but that would be a big break from the last bunch of edition, and could make it a tougher sell. Burying a exclusive Ravening Hordes style book invalidating all existing books in this set may be more trouble than its worth, but I wouldn't put it past them. Also, the army compositions seem off, with a Empire heavy model count, and a Wyvern taking up so much sprue space.

I wish we were close to a little more clarity, because I am interested in how all of this works out. But GW.

Actually, something we might be seeing is an entire revamp of the range and the book.

Eternal Guard becoming plastic is pretty much a given at this point, but something worth considering is that we might see the Glade Guard having their visual style altered a bit and the plastic kit being done in such a way that they can be used for either High Elves or Wood Elves. Look at page 212 in the main rulebook for a good idea as to how they could alter the Glade Guard style a bit to be more neutral between Wood Elf and High Elf.

Eternal Guard becoming core and the Spearman equivalent with Glade Guard getting a bit more regimented versus individualized like they are currently would be a tad interesting. Keep the Wardancers and some things related to the Wild Hunt/forest spirits as being the more "savage" elements and you could get a really cool looking visual aesthetic.

I'm excited for the new dwarf book . Even if 9th edition makes my chaos dwarfs hard to use, I'm thinking I might be able to use them as regular dwarfs. So, glad they're getting updated, and at a time when they should be made with 9th edition in mind.

Of course, if I buy the book I'll know it's got a 6-month ticking clock on it... not sure if the army books will be totally invalid after the release of 9th, or if they'll still be useful in some way.

I've already warned my friend who is still heavy into fantasy. He's partially glad (for the armies being updated at the same time) and pissed beyond belief (all his new hardcovers may become worthless all at once with a short lifespan). I told him I'm not even making it to 9th, and he's selling off my armies for me. Let them be somebody else's problem.
