Another update, here's what's in the works for the XII Legion, it's been a busy week so not too much got done, but hopefully today they'll be primed, base-coated, and ready to detail on the morrow.

I love that your making tall marines .. question , is that white PVC tubing your using to extend the legs ? .. I tried to do the same with some custom built oblitz but i used paper clips and green putty .. however you did it would have saved me alot of time and money >.<

Yessir, good eye, I saw another guy do it using bolters as the base, and i like the shorter 'tactical' look it gives them. It seemed fitting given that they're assault marines.

It's actually plasticard sheets cut and trimmed to be flush with the armor plates. I'll put up a tutorial later this morning for those who are curious how I do it.

Awesome stuff Max. You have really Mastered application of washes and where to put the shading that really makes the model "pop". 40k is a grim dark game and for all white models you have given them a very grim dark look and I love it. Your painting skills never sease to amaze. Got to say I'm not fond of Vilhem'mic beardington lol. That guys beard is just to... idk... noble? to be mixed in with people as brutally efficent as WE. BUT thats just personal preferance. KEEP IT UP!!!

yeah I was iffy on it as well, but it seems like he belonged considering the germanic root nature of a lot of the names within the legion. And thanks for the props, I am but a humble artist trying to perfect my craft.

Wow, have to say I love these! Really great job with the white first of all, and I think if you've got that sorted you are halfway there! As others have said as well, I think you have got just the right level of blood; it's very easy to overdo it, and kill the whole model.

Finally, its only a small thing but I think you've done a wonderful job with the Legion logo - can I ask how you achieved that effect?

And by the way, I completely agree with the whole Germanic style roots and names. A lot of the legions have their latin influences, but to me something like 'Brother Leventus' has never really matched the World Eater character. You can imagine these guys being recruited from barbaric, snow filled or death worlds, savages who are taught to fight with guns as well as the axes they already know well. They wouldn't have elocution lessons like those blue-armoured marines, and are not the kind of characters that you would invite home for dinner. Germanic/Eastern European style names, which sound intrinsically more rough and with a hard phonetic edge to them, think work much better.

My thanks good sir, always glad to see the nuances appreciated, I did a lot of research and probing of the more well-informed minds on Dakka before undertaking this project, as far as the legion symbol goes, I'll see if I can throw up a tutorial this weekend, I've been elbows deep in the Contemptor Dread for the past couple days as well as preparing to move so I apologize for being a little behind on the updates.

Haha thanks bro!

Laughing God wrote:Awesome job on the Dread. How did you get the mud effect on the feet?

I dry brushed VGC (Vallejo Game Color) Earth on the edges and the bits of sad that got stuck in the crevices during the basing, followed by an Agrax Earthshade wash, a drybrush highlight of VGC Bone White, and then a liberal coating of Light Sienna Vallejo Pigment. It's the same process I use for the bases, but just applied to the feet of the dread.

Finally finished the last 5 guys including Sergeant 'Konan'

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also here's the tutorial for spacing the legs to give my Marines an accurate scale.

To Start off, you'll need:

- Hobby Knife
- Plasticard
- Saw
- Snips
- Hobby Glue
- Space Marine Legs

Step 1: glue the 2 sets of plasticard squares together

Step 2: cut the legs off at mid-thigh using the saw

Step 3: Glue one of the Plasticard spacers to one of the leg stumps

Step 4: Trim down the square so that it doesn't interfere with lining up the lower part of the leg

Step 5: Glue the lower part of the leg in place, be careful that the leg is properly aligned. (Protip: I leave the flash on the legs for a guide when lining up the upper and lower parts)

Step 6: Trim the square close to the legs using the Snips

Step 7: Using the Hobby Knife, file down the rough edges of the squares so they're flush with the leg pieces

That's it! Seven easy steps. Here's a few examples to show the difference in height this modification makes.

Fantastic work! The little conversions are great, and the blood effects top it off.

Do you mind doing a quick run down for the blood? You've managed to get it looking remarkably realistic.

Thanks! I try to put out a wait-worthy product and as far as being excited about the HH stuff, does a whale swim in the ocean? I'm blown away with how they did Angron and I'm itching to get my hands on him and some Cataphractii to make his bodyguards
