I believe the double-goal section we just went through was to get "out" many of the things they want to make/include, as well as to make the KS into essentially unskippable value.

Yep, though I am pretty sure we will see it again. Sort of a calm before the storm.

Saturday should be interesting. Reaper has said they want to try and time it so that the last goal they reveal gets funded at the last minute. Not sure if they had something in mind for that day in particular, but from past KS campaigns, trying to figure out where the last will end up that precisely is nearly impossible. The last one I watched close out (RBG) had a mad dash in the last hour or so to make almost 10% of their pledges, and he ended up sort of pulling the wolves out of thin air.

This. They were probably low-balling their production costs with the double-stretch goals and are now recouping that.

The advantage of front-ending like that is that it allowed their kickstarter to hit it's stride at a much earlier date than usual. Smart move.

Seems to have worked well for them. Today was the best day so far in amount pledged. ~142k in a day.

Will this push us over 200 minis for 100 dollars?

I don't know about this. There explanation does make sense. When there were only a few hundred backers, You only have to pay for the molds and a few hundred copies. Now, every goal that is reached is more backers, for which they have to give not only the new goal, but also copies of all the other miniatures.

It's possible they were low balling, but it could just be what they said.

I think it will be right at 200 for $100 not counting Sophie and Mr. Bones. That might have been what they were working towards.

The remainder of the goals might end up being options - big stuff.

Oh yah...and that wasn't just one $100K goal today...it was 2, with 5 days left to go.

The $100 pledge keeps getting better and better. I'd be curious how many retailers are doing the $300 level for inventory.

I don't think they were lowballing. I think they were simply putting each stretch goal at a realistic amount given the number of backers at the vampire level needed to reach it and how many figures they'd have to make of those. Now when a new vampire supporter pledges, they have way, way more miniatures to make for that same $100, So they need more money between stretch goals to cover everything the more people join up.

I'm sure this was all mathematically figured out beforehand. From what I understand, the owners of Reaper are two brothers who are both accountants. I'm pretty sure they know their craft.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Now that this campaign is winding down (in terms of time, if not money), I'm thinking about what I want to get for my pledge money. I'm actually having a hard time deciding-- not because there are too many things I want but because there are too few things I can use in an exisiting WHFB/KoW army. Here's hoping the next add on minis are spectacular and take away my need to choose!

Now showing undead Dwarfs, Ghosts, and Trolls for Dungeon Saga!

Painting total as of 1st August 2025: 108 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I'd love to see some kind of "Vampire" equivalent for all the add-on extras. Maybe at a slight discount, but just to make life easier. Even if they offered it as an option on the last day or in the last 12 hours or something.
Because...

The sheer variety of miniatures in the Vampire set is not really appropriate for someone collecting for a mass battles game. The target market for the figures are people using them for RPGs, skirmish games or to paint for enjoyment, relaxation and display. Might I suggest looking into skirmish gaming? There are lots of good free rules sets out there and some amazing small press rules for very good prices. Let me know if you (or anyone else reading this) wants any specific recommendations beyond the few below.

Free ones:

FUBAR - it's a complete game that fits on one page.
http://thegamesshed.wordpress.com/2011/04/22/fubar-medieval/
Further fantasy expansion for FUBAR based on LotR (what fantasy isn't?). It should give you an idea of the ways you can extend FUBAR to do what you want.
http://thegamesshed.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/fubar-the-war-of-the-ring-2nd-edition.pdf

Coreheim - a fan compiled and edited updated version of the Mordheim rules in a single document:
http://www.coreheim.com/

Hordes of the Things - NOT a skirmish game, but one with a very low model count. I bet the kickstarter could easily be used to make atleast a couple forces for this game. This is a classic game from 1991 that used to be a commercial product, but is now free.
http://www.wrg.me.uk/WRG.net/History/HOTT2.pdf

No Quarter - One of the classic free alternatives to WFB. What people may not know is that the game functions just fine if you take tiny 4 model units for gruntz and your heroes. It works great as a skirmish game.
http://wargamesunlimited.net/noquarter/index.html

Sword Play by Two Hour Wargames - a skirmish set of rules with a reaction system where you check to see how your figures react to certain events. Ideal for solo play.
http://www.twohourwargames.com/swordplay.html

Alright, now some small press and PDF options:

Song of Blades & Heroes - a great simple design with a good price tag and an innovative activation/turn structure. There's been a few expansions. If you search DakkaDakka, you'll find more info.
http://www.ganeshagames.net/product_info.php?cPath=1_6&products_id=7

Warrior Heroes: Armies and Adventures - a hybrid RPG and miniature skirmish game. Uses a variation of the reaction system in Sword Play.
http://www.twohourwargames.com/wahearandad.html

I just realized I didn't cover anything for the Chronoscope Sci-fi releases. There are even more options for those than for Fantasy.

Not sure what the prices are like in Japan for GW products - but if they enjoy bending you guys over as much as they do the Australians...if you were a Tomb King's player (or were getting ready to start) - this would fit the bill nicely.

The Australian prices for various mummy heroes are $20+

You get 4 mummies as part of the base Vampire package - 3 of which would work well enough as characters (the 4th being more of a movie mummy).

The Australian price for swarms is $33 for 2.

You get a set of 12 vermin in the base package - 6 swarms and 6 bigguns.

The Australian price for a Tomb King Giant is $96

The Reaper Bone giant is a $10 option. You can even pick up the khopesh from the Boneyard to keep with the GW weapons.

You also get most the pieces needed to make a Casket of Souls and a bunch of skeletons you could hack up for bits (a good bit cheaper than hacking up GW plastics). That is just off the top of my head of things which I know would fit. I haven't played WHFB for a very long time though, but I would imagine you will see similiar stuff in the VC armies, possibly Chaos and Ogres too.

I can personally confirm that I am willing and able to paint up the dracoliche for the 600.00 level.

There is a reward where for 600 dollars you can get any of the minis painted by a pro painter!

[edit] Hmm they've almost sold out, only 1 left.

Japan prices, while not quite as bad as in Australia, are high enough that it's cheaper for me to order from The Warstore and have things shipped internationally.

The basic Vampire package is awesome, and is the sole reason I backed the Delves Kickstarter last month. I'm just hoping for an awesome new monster so I don't have to agonize over what extras to get for my pledge.

They will do nice for skermish games, Dungeon Delves, Fantacide, and other such rules sets.

I for one welcome our new miniature overlords.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Then we go back to big monsters, and see what is in the evil portal thingy!

Soooo mad that I don't have an extra $100 laying around.

The quantity and quality of minis at this price is astounding.

I may have to start setting aside $300 a year specifically for kickstarters.

New Bones update

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLzrWFJTLvg&feature=player_embedded

(not sure if I can get video to work on here)

but basically there will be a pledge manager, using paypal after the KS

PLEASE add your pledge now if you can to nlock cool stuff for all (using the pledge manager will NOT count towards the total)

and for those that don't like Sophie (the succubus on the bike) you WILL be able to swap her for $25 of Bones stuff, which is cool if you don't want her

That means for 100 bucks you can get all of the bones minis and get a huge dracolich. Or a case. Or two other dragons. Etc etc etc.

That is crazy good and shows they have really been listening to the backers. I know it was one of my biggest concerns as I had absolutely no need / want for the Kickstarter Sophie. I will be turning this into another case for sure! Reaper really came through on this one.

YES! That settles it--I'm getting some dragons!

They must be balking at the idea of casting so many metal models...

Probably a little of the realization of the margins. Even at the discounted price, the plastics are probably worth more sold to them then the metal Sophie would be. I think they do something on the order of 7,000 miniatures every day, so a few thousand more isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things (not a huge company - but still, they could bust those out over a weekend shift).

Wow! You can swap Sophie for a $25? That's just crazy good. I didn't really need some big-tittied bike chick for my mini collection. The PC's would have been really suspicious if I shoe horned her into a game.
