I wonder what the shipping time is going to be like for the giant undead dragon? Hopefully Reaper plans for the increased demand. Though I suspect they must have planned for that nonsense or they wouldnt have offered the sophie swap

I've not seen anything but the art - however given how good everything else is I don't have too many reservations

Forgive me if it has been ansered on the previous 16 pages.
But is it true that except the Sophie, all miniatures are unlimited, even the transparent fire and ghost ones?
Not interested in a pledge, but I need those and a few others in plastic!

You can purchase additional sets of the different bonus models (if you have already made the 100 dollar pledge) - as many as you want (though I think if you want more than 5 lots of any set you need to contact them about extra shipping).

My worry here is that the Walmart Pickle jar effect will hit. Total market saturation. Everyone who wants bones will have all they need, and be able to dump extras on people who maybe would buy a few, and who would shell out a lot for the metal models after this?

When walmart sold giant cheap pickles in a jar, it cut into the profits of the rest of the picklemakers line, since nobody ever thought they needed pickles.

I am totally bummed about not being able to get in on this, due to lack of finances and having pledged for SedWars.

But....I am really excited about all these models that will be out on the market for me to buy later for games like Song of Blades and Heroes and when I finally take my turn as GM for my buddies!

are there that many companies other then reaper making similar models? Also I dont think everyone who might want bones knows about the kickstarter. There are A LOT of gamers that dont stay active on forums and such and dont see the ads for the kick starter. Everytime I've mentioned the kickstarter to people in my area no one seems to know about it.

Pretty sure this won't kill the line. DIdn't they say they were going to look to sell 2 model packs for like $3 when this is over?

That is the hard part. Getting the word out. Most people even on Dakka only read the forums that they normally read. Most will not see this. Maybe heading to the FLGS and letting other people know. I know my Sci-Fi troopers will be painted to work with Sedition Wars, and many others are being purchased, so I can learn to paint with the airbrush, and when the results are good enough, I will sell them as painted on Ebay. Even if I never do that, it is still cheap entertainment.

This.

Hard to believe, but most gamers are just not that plugged in. If it isn't in their local game store, they don't know it exists. If their local game store stops carrying something, they assume it went out of business (seen that happen more than once).

Even with in those who are involved in the Kickstarter, I don't think you will see saturation. There are a lot of people who are tapped out, or nearly so right now who are only in for $100-200. They would love to pledge more, but just don't have the resources available. Others like one option or another from a set which is listed - but not enough to buy multiples of it (for example, the most recent Swamp things have a snake warrior in it - I plan on getting enough of those to do a unit or three...however, if I also didn't want the lizard men and swamp troll en masse - it would be more cost effective to wait till they were retail).

Definately won't be killing the line. Bones currently go for a couple bucks a pack for regular sized figures. They are refitting their production facilities and purchasing tooling to move the production and mold manufacture in house so that they can play around a bit more with things as well (contract tooling and production - even in China adds up pretty quickly when you are looking at converting a few thousand miniatures to plastic).

I agree very much with people not being plugged in.

At my FLGS, most people only found out about the KS last night because I was on my laptop and popped it up (they did know about zombicide because someone bought it), but never heard of mantic, SW, reaper bones KS, and many of the others.

Most of these are people the same age as me, just hate all the forums. If I don't post it on our facebook group for the store, they don't hear about it.

I personally was pretty late to the reaper party. I saw the kick starter when it first got going and wasnt really interested as the pledges didnt have much in it that I actually wanted. If it wasnt for people continuing to talk about it here I wouldnt have given it much of a second thought. Even though I'm in at the 100 dollar pledge there are only a handful of models I actually want. I'm only in it for the stupid good deal. A dollar a model for stuff I may or may not one day need / use is a pretty good deal.... 50 cents a model is an awesome deal.

But again I wouldn't have gotten in on the deal if the thread wasn't growing and growing and growing forcing me to give it a second look.

Most of my gamer friends who dont spend any time on forums didnt have any idea about the reaper kick starter...or any idea what kick starter even was for that matter

I'd love to see a single for info only thread on currently active gaming related kick starters as I'm still sad I missed out on zombicide. Granted it would be a ton of work to keep it going and updated. Assuming of course that we continue to see an influx of companies jumping on kick starter while the times are good

But you were sure to twist their arms and get them in right?

I actually have a large portion of the miniatures already in metal - including most of the big ones so far (with the exception of course of the new art...think we are around 25 of those). However, I also have all the existing Bones figures - many of them in multiples. It is so much easier to work with than metal when it comes to cutting them up and converting things. Many of the metal figures are parts of back burner projects which wouldn't likely get moved up anytime soon just to avoid having to cut all the metal. Now, I am looking forward to getting a good sized Giant Army - lizardmen that aren't comical - yuan-ti - And of course dragons which I don't need a back brace to move around.

Even if I didn't end up using 2/3 of the figures which are currently in the Vampire Package - it is still a little over a dollar a figure for those. Luckily though, I should be able to use the vast majority of them...and the ones I can't use will become parts for stuff that can be used.

If it helps with your price calculations as to whether or not you should get in - Reaper had said that the vast majority of these will be roughly double the option price when they go to Retail. A $15 option like the hydra will retail for about $30. Add up what you want, figure in the Vampire buy in and then compare it to twice the option cost. If it is less than twice the option cost...it is a good deal.

You will likely be able to recoup some of your Vampire pledge as well. Even if you just end up throwing the whole lot of little stuff in a single auction on eBay - you should be able to get back $50-75 without too many problems. If you sold them one at a time - you could probably get a dollar each (half retail for man-sized figures).

It it impossible that the kickstarter will saturate the market, that's all crazy speculation.

-First of all, it will not kill the need for metal miniatures any more then Bones existing solely in the store. Most of the people wanting figures like these will either be getting Bones, or the old metal reaper minis, which I assume will be phased out as they are made in Bones material. The cheap price point of Bones will sell them over metal, and if the line has staying power, they will sell many, many more of each figure than the Kickstarter is moving right now.

Look at the dark Heaven Legends line. I can;t imagine how many figures that line has moved over it's lifespan, and all of those will be resold in Bones!

-Second, for every guy that puts down $100 on the Kickstarter, there are many more like me who will be buying single packs as they come out. Sure, the Kickstarter is a steal, but only for those who can drop a big chunk of money all at once. I can't do that, but will happily spend 3-4 dollars on the packs off the shelf.

-Also, I echo the fact that just because this forum knows about the Kickstarters, everyone knows. That's not true. if not for Dakkadakka, I would never know about a single of these games being on KS outside of a mention on Boardgamegeek or something. I'll bet Sedition Wars will sell a ton more copies of the boxed sets of the game in stores and online to people who have never even heard of it after the release as they did during the kickstarter.

I'm from the future. The future of space

There's definitely a tendency to extrapolate how we find out and experience things to the larger world. Such a view is rarely, if ever, accurate.

There are tons and tons of people out there who don't go on web forums, read web comics, or even know what a "kickstarter" is.

Metal stock sitting and not selling is also a non issue for Reaper as they can simply take any metal miniature stock for a product code that is not moving rapidly and put it in the pot and melt it down to be cast as a product code that is moving rapidly. So even if they "cannibalize" a given metal miniature's sales with Bones, it's no big deal as they can simply reallocate the metal.

Now a store, with metal versions on the wall at four times the price-- that might be hard to move.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

All I know is that now that they are moving a lot of their models over to Bones, I am happy. From time to time I like to get cool looking Dark Heaven figures just to paint, even if I will never use them in a game. But I have to be picky at the price, because it cuts into actual gaming minis I want to buy.

Now that some of the coolest figures in the line(as well as from Warlord) will be offered as Bones, I can buy twice the figures I used to, or at the very least get some of the ones I was on the hedge about. That's what this KS means for me personally.

There are tons and tons of people out there who don't go on web forums, read web comics, or even know what a "kickstarter" is.

Very true. I have been in the hobby since 40K 2nd Edition, and the first Kickstarter I ever heard of was the OGRE one, and SedWars is the first I have ever put money towards. Every KS other than the OGRE one I heard about only because I frequent Dakkadakka.

Oooh, I like these new reveals. When they said they were only unveiling one goal at a time for the last few days, I'd assumed it meant they were only showing the very next goal, not 2 goals ahead like they've been doing. Looks like it's still 2 goals ahead, it's just part of that goal is a secret until you hit that goal. Should build a little bit of "what's behind door #1" style excitement

It better not be the Owlbear lol, I've got my fingers crossed for the Alicorn. Would make more sense as they were both sculpted by Sandra Garrity, and they have been putting a LOT of her stuff in as extras.
