The situation for Canadian backers it a bit complicated

The original plan for RAFM to act as a distributor in Canada (so nobody had to pay import charges) did not go ahead, possibly because they didn't make a great job of distributing the metal Sophies

(not sure whether this was down to them, or down to customs messing them about, but a whole bunch of stuff ended up shipped back to Reaper)

So an alternative plan was to deliver via USP but with Reaper acting as an import broker.. that way no fees for the backs to pay.

Canadian government said, sure, no problem, just fill in this paperwork and we can get this set up... Reaper filled in the papers and are still waiting for the Import Broker licence

So as soon as the Canadian Government get it signed and returned Canadian shipping can go ahead

(Reaper are still packing/labelling stuff for Canada, and all of it will be stuck on UPS trucks as soon as the paperworks in)

Thank you for the info on this Orlando!

I don't think this is right, as usual, Canadian backers got the shaft.

Thanks Reaper, not that you cared enough to reply to my email! I had to hear it from Orlando. :(

They actually posted in the comments of their "Oh, Ship" update, in the general comments section and also on there forum. I know several of the Canadian backers have been having a laugh about the speed of government approval for a couple weeks now.

On the email, it is unfortunate you didnt get a response...no doubt it was just a ball that was dropped. Reaper is a pretty small company (around 20 people the last time I was there) and they have business as usual plus 19,000 some odd orders with customers no doubt sending emails on a regular basis looking for updates. Normally they respond in a couple days time for any of my messages...but I wouldnt chalk it up to malice or disrespect...just the unfortunate case of having a lot going on at once.

In other news...

Kaladrax and Nethermaul side by side (the smaller skull is from the metal version of Kaladrax).

Reaper shut down all KS related activity around Wednesday last week to prepare for ReaperCon which is going on in their factory this weekend

(this was scheduled before the KS was even announced)

so depending on when you emailed this might be why they haven't been back to you yet

It's been about 2 weeks with no reply or I'd give the ReaperCon reason a bit of a chance.

Unfortunately, as any Canadian knows, we tend to get Fethed when it comes to anything being shipped in or any promotions or anything else like this. This warranted an actual UPDATE, not posting on the comments section about it. I checked 3-4x and don't see it on the updates, I don't doubt it might be in the comments though (The delays for Canadians).

It's unfortunate that most companies seem to ignore Canada or give us a second rate explanation (not even a full update, just a comment as to why our shipping is fully delayed), but I guess this is my fault also for not living on the Kickstarter site/reaper forums and checking it regularly?

Just saying, it's disappointing this didn't warrant an update. I've been checking my email every friggin day for a tracking # since the original shipping post.

Cheers

I'm still waiting on Kaladrax, the clockwork dragon, and cthulhu... other than that, my order is simple as hell (1 vampire level)

I'm starting (starting) to get a little salty about the shipping delay. I can understand development taking longer, I can understand customs delays, and I can even understand the difficulty of getting a ton of orders out.

It's just annoying that some people got their stuff over a month ago.

How complicated was your order.. If you got any of the big figures you will be delayed til the end. I am in the same both I have a half dozen addons, but I got all but the cthulhu figure.. They are shipping not unlike most kickstarters that have more problems with production.. When I get the figs I will be a happy dm, but alas I wait for that email saying yes its shipped lol..

But that's the problem, my order is simple, and because I chose to get the big guys I'm having to wait until the end. They had originally stated that orders would be shipped out by complexity, starting with the simplest orders, and then moving up from there. People with more addons than I did and the same number of vampire levels I got (1), are getting their stuff before me simply because I went with the big guys, whom they didn't say were going to hold up orders until the end, until the orders started shipping... If I had known that, I would have gotten far more stuff because then I would be waiting anyways...

I think that with the length of the shipping window, they're putting out orders to "mask" production delays.

Which, I guess, is fine. At some point I'd like them to ship me my Vampire, and hten the rest of the stuff when they can (like Mantic did with KoW).

I'm not livid or anything, and I doubt I'll do much with the models after getting them, but I bought three paint sets, which I am looking forward to using.

Reaper being 3 months off from delivering your rewards is actually a pretty amazing feat, considering the absolutely incredible amount of logistics involved here. Especially when you consider the March delivery was when they were planning the delivery of only 30 newly tooled bones (and the Sophie) and a bunch of goblins, kobolds, and rats!

Plus, I'd rather wait a little longer for my $65 off Kaladraxes and $50 off Nethymaul than pay the full retail for it later. But that's me, I place a greater premium on the cash savings than on promptness of delivery. It's why I can stand ordering from China shop websites and wait the 4 weeks for delivery

That was my original thought too. I can see them taking a week off for ReaperCon, I know that OTL closes down shop when we visit a convention, and Reaper was hosting one! (albeit a somewhat of a small one).

I'm not livid either, and I won't paint the durned things when I get them, but they will supplement the few DnD figs that I have for my games, I just wish that they would have been a little more forthcoming with the knowledge that my stuff would be part of the last to ship because of my large models...

Dear Reaper,

Here's some advice not to suck so hard:

#1. Make shipping arrangements before you start shipping things.
#2. Don't alienate an entire country full of customers.

Thanks,

Will

p.s. - I suggest all Canadians stop supporting Reaper products. This clearly shows what they think of us as consumers, not even important enough to ship our stuff out, they would rather try and save a $1/package shipping.

Eh, it's all balls, and partly UPS's fault at this point. They are really gumming up the works, from what I hear

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here we go, I found a quote from ReaperBryan about the whole importing license and UPS issue with Canada...

"We are working on details that would define us as an import broker, and responsible for our own fees. We'd bulk ship to ourselves in canada, pay our fees, and the UPS would pick up there and deliver.

If it doesn't work that way, we will let people know. If it does, there will be an update to Canadian backers notifying them what to expect.

We had not even realized this was an option until our UPS agent approached us last week, and so we're still working on it.

Our goal is to make sure that you receive your parcels with both minimum delays and minimum fuss, and ideally zero unexpected fees."

This does strike me, a bit (perhaps unfairly), of reaper busting balls to get greens, masters, and production up, and feeling awesome about getitng everything done in time. Only to suddenly realized they have a warehouse full of product and no plan to ship it all out.

I can just imagine a bunch people feeling elated about doing the damn near impossible, only to crash when they find out what they missed.

I am a little bummed not to have gotten my vampire +bigguns and things yet, but so far it is better than Relic Knights, so I am not too put out. I am actually pretty surprised they made their initial estimate to ship at all given my other Kickstarter experiences.

Still... things are starting to slide from "eagerly looking forward to" and "wondering when the hell it is getting here.'

Has anyone gotten a shipment email since ReaperCon?

Edit: There's a post from a Reaper Rep here.

Approx 18,000 backers for this Kickstarter exist.
Reaper began fullfilment shipping in late March.
KS shipping is being done in stages with the simplest orders first, that is to say the just a single vampire box is simpler than a vampire box plus anything.
Canadian Shipping is a little stalled with government paperwork. This is a high priority of Reaper's to resolve.
Other international shipping has been successful.
At this point, End of April, none of the larger models (Cthulu, Kaladrax, etc) have shipped.
Reaper is committed to completing the shipping of this KS before Origins occurs in June.
These Bones will not release into retail distribution until all Backers items have been shipped.

Remember an order with anything like Cthulhu, Kaladrax, Nethermyaul etc is is more complex that a similar order with an 'ordinary' add on

simply because they are so big they need a different sized shipping box.

At least to start with reaper are re-using the boxes that the Vampire sets came to them in (each box held 2 vampires) both to save costs and to 'save the planet'.

These boxes won't fit the big guys at all so until they run out of them completely, or have shipped everything else, we'll have to wait (and yes i'm waiting too)

As to the poor Canadians they really do seem stuck. The original plan to ship via RAFM in Canada was basically killed when Canadian customs sent back a whole bunch of metal Sophies Reaper had sent to RAFM for distribution, apparently because this would have meant the recipient's dodged tax

(some speculation on my part as to why, but the sending back happened)

So Reaper could try sending the main stuff to RAFM again (probably with the same result, packages get sent back or worse destroyed, and backers get nothing)

or Ship directly to Canada (so the backers would get an unexpected tax bill along with their stuff)

or register as an import broker so they (reaper) can pay the taxes direct, and then have UPS deliver the stuff. The Canadian government said this was fine, as could be sorted fast, so reaper did the paperwork and is now waiting, and waiting, and waiting

I'm wondering why mine is so delayed. I only have Vampire + Orcs. That doesn't seem terribly complicated or to need a larger box.

The vast majority of backers only got vampire + one or two add ons

(I want to say 12,000+ of the 20,000 or so but I can't for the life of me say where I've got the number from)

so it may be that they just haven't finished the simple stuff yet
(since it's business as usual in addition to shipping, rather than doing a mantic and basically closing down for a week so everybody can ship)

And now we have an official update (and it shows my speculation was wrong): they've shipped all the can until more stuff arrives from china

Update

First, our Canadian customers.

During the run of our Kickstarter campaign, we promised that we'd get you your stuff without you being nailed with a bunch of customs fees. To that end, we've had to apply for non-resident importer status to Canada. This way, we absorb the cost of the customs fees, and you get local delivery of your pledge packages. Unfortunately, we're caught in a bureaucratic morass of red tape. We were led to believe that we would be finished with this part of the process in December 2012, but we've been there for months now. Happily, we've received word from our customs broker that we're very close to having our application finalized, and as soon as we have the all clear, you'll start receiving your things. We're terribly sorry for the delay, but this was the only way to do it without saddling you with the import fees.

tl;dr: We're stuck in red tape, but the end is near, and we start duty-free shipments to Canada soon.

Now, everybody else.

You know we've been partnering with a company in China to manufacture your Bones figures. They sent us the first of several staggered shipments for fulfillment: five shipping containers with the Vampire boxed sets. We've received and processed those containers, even renting more storage space to hold it all. We also broke down a number of those vampire boxes to process add-ons that were included within the Vampire box. Then we started fulfillment, and we blasted through several thousand pledges much more quickly than we anticipated.

Now we're waiting on shipment two from China. These containers include many of the larger add-ons. We have documentation that we will receive them any day. As soon as we do, we'll continue fulfilling the orders that include the items that arrive in this wave of containers. We didn't expect to go so fast with the first wave, and China took longer to ship wave two than originally promised.

On the bright side, if past performance is any indication, there won't be a huge turnaround time between our receipt of the Bones and shipping them to you. Once we get to your order, our system will send you an email with tracking information for our US customers and a customs confirmation number for our international customers.

tl;dr: We've shipped all we can and are waiting for more stuff from China so we can send out the rest. We'll email when we fill your order.

There isn't anything we would rather be doing that sending you your stuff, and we will be resuming that process as soon as humanly possible.

We appreciate your continued patience and again thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Ed Pugh
CEO, Reaper Miniatures

Unsurprising delay from China is unsurprising. Its definitely rough trying to do JIT when you're counting on a boat from China.
