Tell me about it. Watched Miniature Market go from 77 to 0 TIE Interceptors in the space of 3 hours on Thursday. Hopefully the guys down here will have some allocated when their stock arrives early August.

Wow... that's even more popular than I expected. I'm guessing people were likely buying 3-6 at a time as they were likely expecting them to run out and be unavailable at any discount price (and making it a self-fulfilling prophesy).

Added to the Wave 2 stuff selling out, I'm surprised the B-Wing for example still has about 100 units left for pre-order. Thought they would of moved a little better.

Been reading up on the TIE Bomber, and you can load it up to the brim with ordinance (2 Missile+2 Torpedoes+1 Bomb). Think I may do that for the lulz in a game soon.

What's everyone thinking of the new Wave 3 stuff, including the Advanced Systems cards?

I've seen people use 4 X-Wings to great effect in tournaments. 20 hit points and 12 attack dice is pretty nasty.

One list I saw in action yesterday consisted of:

Wedge w/Swarm Tactics & R2
Garven Dreis
Rookie X-Wing x 2

I agree, 3 is a pretty good as both min/max I think... it is possible to run 4. Of all the rebel ships the most you should own is the x-wing, it's firepower, hp's, ability to take astromechs, torpedos and elite skills make it the single most versatile ship in the rebel line-up, and one of the most straightforward to fly. If you are gonna deviate from 3, then go up one, not down I would advise, but only if you are gonna play a lot of games pretty regularly.

I wouldn't certainly drop the 3rd X-wing from my collection, as that bugger was a pain enough to get as it is . Instead I was hoping I might not need a 4th, but we'll see .

Also I had my first rage inducing game on Friday :-\. We had just finished up some demoing of games when we pulled out X-Wing, and because I was the unlucky sap with the most ships, I had to take "That Fething Kid" on to my team. You know that kid, he wants to play in everything that looks cool, but won't ever buy anything related to that game so he continually mooches your stuff (I've been told on more than one occasion to not demo to this kid because he never buys anything). So we set up, I tell him to play what he wants, and I'll try to make up the remaining points. So what does he do? Fully loaded Luke Skywalker complete with Proton Torpedos (that he didn't use), R2-D2, Marksmanship, and a Shield Upgrade. So I try to fit in my Y-wing with Dutch, an Ion cannon, and I think Marksmanship (couldn't remember) and a basic Red Squadron pilot. He asks to run the X-wings and I let him, so turn 1 his X-wing flies right into the path of my Y-Wing, preventing him from getting an action with nothing in arc, or in range of my Ion Cannon (oh but I was in range for everything else... >_< ). Turn 1 my Y-wing is down all his shields and took 1 crit, destroying my Turret. Turn 2 his X-Wing and Luke fly in such a way that they have nothing in Arc, but are in the arc of "Evil Lando" (one of the guys playing ONLY had the falcon so he played with the Imperial player who was using my 1 of my Ties and Vader), Vader, and Dark Curse. Luke gets fethed by Vader and Curse, while Evil Lando blows the ever living hell out of my Y-Wing at the farthest possible range for Range 1 (stupid planning on my part). The Red Squadron pilot manages to kill Vader over the course of like 2 more turns but dies to the onslaught that was our enemies. The kid made bad moves (as did I, but I didn't have to live with them for long), and kept asking what he should do in every situation, something he does in EVERY GAME WE TEACH HIM*. He's got like 1 less game under his belt than some of the guys we were playing, and they've got the rules down far better than this kid...

It just sucked because I wanted to try core pieces of that list (2 x-wings and a y-wing) but now I'm like... feth this! because of that kid...

* - He's been playing Malifaux since February and he still asks us what he should do in every situation. The kid is 16 and acts like he's 9...

ugh sorry rant over D: I need more people to play this so I can actually enjoy playing the game instead of being a babysitter for a kid that could be a babysitter himself.

My buddies and I just recently got into X-Wing.

We really like it too,.

The Tie fighters are our favorites right now. The Rebels have had a hard time getting a victory. I think maybe it has something to do with us just having x-wings, no a-wing or y-wing support.

The biggest thing for me was the hitting obstacles with your ship (we had been playing as the base flying over) and the targeting with obstacles in the way.

Ill have to digest this some more. MR, what stuck out to you?

Cluster missiles look pretty lethal on swarm when combined with gunner, some of the clarifications nerf dardevil a bit, buff a few imperials and homing missile required to have a target lock but not require it be spent is also interesting...

This part here:

Competitive Play
Addendum
This section addresses advanced elements of the
game that may be useful as a reference during
tournament-level play.
Action Resolution
Players are strongly encouraged to resolve actions
in a speedy and sportsmanlike manner. However, if a
player is concerned that his opponent is abusing the
rules to gain an unfair advantage, he can request that
his opponent follow the more strict action resolution
described below.
• When acquiring a target lock, the player must first
declare the intended target. Then, he measures
range to the declared target to see if the target
is within legal range. If the target is in range, the
ship performing the action must acquire a target
lock on the target. If the target is not in range, the
player may declare a different target, or he may
declare a different action.
• When performing a barrel roll action, the player
must first declare from which side of the ship’s
base the action will be performed. Then, he
measures to see if the ship is able to perform
a barrel roll action from any legal area on the
declared side. If the ship can perform the barrel
roll action, it must do so. If the ship cannot
perform the barrel roll action, the player may
declare a different side from which to perform a
barrel roll, or he may declare a different action.
• When performing a boost action, the player must
declare which maneuver template to use. Then,
he measures to see if the ship is able to perform
a boost action with the declared template. If the
ship can perform the boost action, it must do so.
If the ship cannot perform the boost action, the
player may declare a different maneuver template
to use, or he may declare a different action.

It strongly reminds me of the last 40k tournament I attended, which made me question why I was spending my free time arguing rules with people who were clearly wrong, (ie Telling me a Ghost Ark couldn't move flat out for just one example of many). It just smacks of the beardiness and dickery that I have strongly suspected takes place at this type of event.

That's why I was saying I feel justified in playing in more of a "beer and pretzels" type of situation.

I don't really get the whole tournament thing to be honest... I want to have fun with my friends, as much as possible... I mean I understand why people play in tournaments, but the appeal is a distant second to being able to see some friends more often, beer and pretzels all the way...

Actually the few Xwing tournaments (okay, all two of them...) I attended were really great fun. Sure, we were tough on following the exact rules but that certainly doesn't preclude fun by any means.
(Okay, we didn't have pedantry anywhere near the level of those addenda, but to be honest I prefer to have such clear rules as a fallback option just in case something might be really unclear/.important over having to call in a TO who might as well roll a die on it...)

So the FAQ pretty much says once you test to see if a model is a valid target for a target lock you must target lock that model? That's pretty lame.

I guess just always target your first choice. If it's out of range, you get to re-pick.

Is that a general rule clarification? I thought that was only under the TFG tourney clarification system to be used if your opponent is stalling (as posted above). I can't access the pdf at the moment so can't check the details.

FAQ wrote:Q: At what times is a player allowed to measure range?

A: A player may measure with the range ruler at the following times:
• Before committing to an action that includes measuring range, such as acquiring a target lock.
• As part of declaring the target of an attack, before committing to that target.
• As part of resolving an effect that includes measuring range.

So it seems that you can check the range on a target lock before you declare it. Though it does say that if your target is out of range then you make pick a new target for it.

It's a clarification for tournament rules to deal with situations where your opponent is measuring target locks to absolutely everything on the table just to stall and reach the time limit, or "considering" a target lock and waving the range ruler around everywhere to pre-measure movement for their other ships. All it really says is "if your opponent is TFG, you can make them stop".

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If that's the case then I'm ok with it. I could see why this would be an issue with some people continually abusing the time attempting target locks.

They have changed the ruling on Gunner/Luke and Cluster Missiles.

In summary, if you use Gunner/Luke for your first attack, you don't get the second, as per their card text.

I'm guessing coolstuffinc, an online web store. On a somewhat (un)related note, I just watched a youtube video of the Star TREK game that uses the x-wing mechanics and their base set has 6 straight and 4 soft turns that x-wing doesn't. I'm curious to see if the original x-wing game will eventually change to incorporate those as well in an eventual second edition a few years (hopefully) from now. In the meantime, I don't think it'll be too difficult to incorporate them with house rules if desired. Basically, anyone with a boost move gets one step up forward and soft move instead of the boost action.

I'm guessing those "soft" moves are to represent the fact you are playing a game that using mostly Cruisers and Escorts.

They aren't fighter sized.

I finally got a couple interceptors myself, and should have one more inbound soon. I've had to do some legwork, though!

The price-gouging I've seen is kind of sad. I saw them going for over 100$ at times on Amazon before the resupply.
