Actually, I didn't have the first turn. I just deployed my Speculo behind my enemy, isolated from all the other units, and as soon he tried to shoot the Speculo, she dodged into combat and decapitated him
The clause that confused me was "as a normal figure". Normal figures generally don't deploy in their opponents deployment zone

Nice!!
The clause that confused me was "as a normal figure". Normal figures generally don't deploy in their opponents deployment zone
I think that may be a bad translation if im honest. 'Normal Figure' in this case being 'normal-after-they-have-been-discovered-please-see-rules-pgXXX'.
At the very least yes, a normal model doesnt deply in the enemy deployement zone

I have a question along the lines of the impersonation here.
So, at what point do you decide what units you bring to a fight?
After you find out what missions you are doing? Before?
I am hoping to try my impersonation merc out tomorrow

You decide what units you are bringing to the fight when you write your list.
Depending on how you are playing, missions may be decided beforehand, or after you have done your list. If you use the YAMS system, lists get done first, then missions are drawn.
In the Paradiso campaign, missions will be known beforehand - and the outcome of each determines which of the following ones are played.

Howdy! I've taught myself and a friend of mine how to play Infinity over the past couple of months, and there's a few questions that have come up.
Guts Rolls - Can these be failed on purpose? If my trooper makes his willpower save, can I still chose to move him 2" back/into better cover?
Antipodes - If one member of an Antipode pack is immobilized, do the others suffer any sort of penalty?
V ogged - The rules state that when a trooper has enough wounds to activate this ability, the only thing that stops him from dying is to keep spending orders on him in "a consecutive way". Just to make sure I'm clear, does this mean that if I spend orders on any other trooper, my wounded dogged troop dies? If Dogged activates on my opponent's turn, can I still use this ability?
Thanks, all.

I can't help you with the antipodes question, but for the other 2:
- Yes you can always choose to fail a guts check if you want (a trooper getting machine-gunned will always realise that the more prudent action might be to stick his head down, even if he doesn't fear death).
- For V : Dogged (or vogged as it will henceforth be known ) yes you must keep spending consecutive orders on him when he has taken a wound. The moment you stop doing that (for any reason) he will die.

I have some very basic questions before I give Corvus Belli all of my paycheck for their sweet ass models.
In comparison to 40k, is this game well balanced?
how long is the average game?
How well does corvus belli support infinity? because honestly I've been pretty disappointed with GW lately.

Extremely well balanced.
200 point game takes around an hour tops.
Extremely well supported, free rules available online, wiki with faqs. Rarely an unanswered question for very long at all. Website built in army builder, etc etc etc.
It takes a lil bit to learn some of the legal army building and rules, but that iis true of any game.

I wouldn't say it's like chess or old school WoW, but there is a lot more balance than 40k in particular. Now at first it might seem there isn't balance as you get used to the rules and your own force. You will think that that force with a bunch of HMG's or something is cheese. Until that is, you figure out how to take it out! You will learn to use the right man for the right job and how to place them. You will learn what skills to use where and who's your star player and who's your back up guy. Of course by then the insidious Infinity will have it's dirty hooks in you!
Edit: I should say bright and hopeful hooks. No grim darkness here!

Ah, I remember my first games with my Nomads. I had this feeling like everyone else had cheaper special weapons and better stats while I paid for fragile units whom I just couldn't figure out how to use.
Now, some time later I've realized it wasn't like that at all. I just couldn't get all the cogwheels in place to get the machine running.

Cool, thanks for all the help guys, and trust me its already got it hooks in me. How are some of the play styles of the armies though, I haven't gotten a chance to pick up a copy of the core rulebook yet so I can't really get all the info I need from the army builder. I'm still not sure which force I want to play (because I like them all) I might be leaning towards nomads.

Any way your feel like playing them, all army can play all style, you just need to find the units that fit the style you want.

I'm collecting Nomads as well although haven't played with them yet. Very effective with hackers I believe (which can be immensely annoying - one of my heavy infantry just got turned into an immobile lump of metal by a hacker hiding nearby in a previous game!)

very interesting, so from what I've gathered from the army builder and the wiki, I can just pick out some units from the same army, shove them together into a pseudo kill team and have them fight? Are there any min/max units that this game has that I'm not seeing? Also how strong is the Infinity community in the US? I've never seen anything about them at my FLGS or any of the other stores nearby (maybe one that I overlooked) I'm very worried about putting a game together, I might just have to buy two armies.

My method of choice is to find a 40k buddy to try it with you. Buy a starter pack or two of some units that you like, and use some spare 40k pieces for proxies as needed. You'll make better purchase selections (not that any troops are really bad, mind you) after you get some games under your belt, and by playing games in the open, you make attract some notice of more potential players.

Yes, thats the 'vanilla' force for each army, there are also sectorials that limit the troops you are allowed to take, but often increase the AVA of core troop choices as well...(note, this also unlocks link teams as well, you cant get them in vanilla armies)
Spamming pretty much isnt a thing in Infinity from what im seeing Army List-wise (and what ive read) apart from (maybe) a themed force, or some of the sectorials that feel min/max because of a lower option count (having less troop choices in the sectorial i mean). Tohaa may be different (having an unlimited amount of link teams limited to 3 members each), but i dont think CB will change the balance like that IMO...
No idea on the strength in the US im afraid, but from everyhthing ive read its getting strnger by the second, i imagine you can almost feel it grow...

Yeap.. no one cares if you proxy stuff to try the game and units out.
There are units that there is no model for anyways. so proxy away.
Thats also the nice thing about free rules. Technically if you and your friend just wanted to try the game out before buying any kick ass models, or books, you could use the website and some 40k figs and play away.
Put way more terrain on your table than for 40k. LoF/LOS is super important.. and you need it blocked often.

For your question of how each faction plays it's not simple but there are some generalities.
Nomads: Lots of hackers, and many fast medium infantry troops.
PanO: Balanced with all kinds of troops I'd say but with the knights they almost equal Yu Jing for Heavy Infantry. Generally a point higher BS than other factions.
Yu Jing: Higher CC but not as needed in this game. Lots of Heavy Infantry but flexible enough for anything.
Haqqislam: They don't have medics, They have doctors! They can also outnumber just about any other force.
Ariadna: Not as technically advanced but make it up with some great troops and some good weapons. Second to Haqqislam in numbers.
Combined: Great troops but expensive. Can do just about anything with them but will always be limited in numbers.
Aleph: Like the Combined army. High quality for high points. Very though good troops that can do just about anything.

Well if you want an army that may be like Eldar I would recommend Nomads I think. Or go totally different with say Haqqislam. Or stick to aliens and do Combined or the brand new Tohaa. Then again you know you want Monks in space wth the Yu JIng.... Your right , it IS hard.

Alright, so I've got a few Shasvastii-related questions.
When are Seed-Soldiers and Cadmuses (Cadmii?) Revealed? Am I correct in that Seed-Soldiers hatch at the beginning of the second game turn (third player turn) and Cadmuses... i don't even know.
Also, with the Shasvastii rule, you have to kill their embryo in order to get VP.
Now... do I need to have a medic in order for my Shasvastii to stay in unconscious mode? Or do I, without a medic, go directly to embryo, skipping unconscious?

Well I have a Shasvastii question too:
Seed Embryoes have limitied camo, when they hatch do they lose camo? I don't think they do as the 'hatching' requires no dice to be rolled so won't reveal the Soldier, but the soldier doesn't have mimetism or camo on his profile so does the limited camo bonus carry over? confused!
The Cadmii can use a short skill to hatch on the active turn (so half an order). same as the seed soldiers.
The enemy have to kill the embryo before they gain VPs and for the kill to count as part of your retreat total.
Shasvastii (like other models) stay in Unconscious mode until they take another hit which kills them. Particular to the Shasvastii, they convert to spawn embryoes rather than die and be removed from the game. Your opponent should keep his unconscious models on the board when playing against CA as a number of there models can eat them to regain wounds!

Here's what I know with Shasvastii. Kogan already has some answered but I might help.
Seed Soldiers start in a seed pod on the first turn. They then have Limited Camo as well. They are obligated to stay that way on the first turn, UNLESS, you use an order to take them out OR they can come out as a reaction (ARO). ie you have them in the back part of your deployment and someone combat drops down. You can react to that combat drop by popping out of the seed pod. This can only happen though if the action happens with in the SSoldiers Zone of control (Not line of sight like normal ARO).
Cadmus also start in a seed pod but they are combat jump dropped in the first turn. They do NOT get the Limited Camo but they do get Electric Pulse. Again they must stay in the pod until the second turn UNLESS you use an order or ARO.
Spawn-Embryo: It's confusing because there is Seed Embryo and Spawn Embryo. They should have said Seed Pod instead. Less confusion. If they go from Unconscious to dead, you then put out a Spawn marker. This is one reason some take the doctor because while it's still on the board you keep your figure there unconscious. Make your opponent use orders to kill it and then the Embryo.
Now it's a little confusing about wounds. One of the questions is if a single wound Shasvastii takes three wounds from a weapon does it kill him and the embryo? I say yes.
1 wound=unconscious, +1 wound=Death, +1 wound=Embryo Death.
So a full burst from a rifle, and they all wound, and no armor saves, should totally take out a Shasvastii.
Edit (See below): 4 wounds would have to happen if he's in a seed pod.
1 wound=Seed Pod, +1 wound=unconscious, +1 wound=Death, +1 wound=Embryo Death

I'm pretty sure they lose the limited camo bonus as this bonus is only on the seed embryo profile.
The embryo has limited camo because if it is discovered, it can't go back to camo state.
CDK wrote:

I'm not sure with that. I think that if the seed pod receives a wound, the seed soldier inside dies.
I think it has the option to hatch as an ARO so your model is not totally useless if an enemy model gets close.

I'm pretty sure consensus was that just killing the pod does not kill the shas within. It's not very logical that killing the pod kills the shas.
Edit: I take it back. I now remember. Since Seed pods have no separate ARM, or Wounds, it goes directly on the Shas inside. Embryos however have a separate stat line ARM 0, BTS 0, W1.
It doesn't' make sense but there you have it.

They actually have ARM and W stats =P
But here's the info from the FAQ
Q: What happens if a Shasvastii Seed-Embryo receives one or more Wounds?
A: If the Seed-Embryo receives 1 Wound, it falls Unconscious. If it receives 2 Wounds, it passes to Dead state. If it receives 3 Wounds, it passes to Spawn-Embryo state (Replace the Seed-Embryo Marker by a Spawn-Embryo Marker, check the Shasvastii Special Skill, to know the Attributes of a Spawn-Embryo). If the Spawn-Embryo receives one more Wound, it must be removed from the game table.
I see it as, if you smash an egg before it hatches, chances are the inside will be smashed too =P
The egg is harder but if something gets through, it will go through the inside too.

See that's confusing because that question is under the Spawn page not the Seed page!
It's still confusing because it says 3 wounds it goes to Embryo but that means it needs to take a fourth wound to kill the embryo!
When it's dead it should automatically go to Embryo state. that's the way it is normally. Unconscious to Dead (Embryo)
