Well since the new 6th edition stater set is coming out it got me thinking what other armies could they do? for me I would like to see another tyranids vs space marines but with better models and units. I know its going to be a long time till the next one comes out but I would like to know what two armies would you like to see face off in a starter set? and also do you think they will ever change space marines with another race? I like space marines I have a few myself but it'd be nice to see Eldar fighting Daemons or something

well the 6th edition one is out, so you are going to have to wait for 7th.

I think Traitor Guard versus Iron Hands would be my favoirte.

I've always liked the idea of an IG vs. Orks one, with plastic Steel Legion models for an Armageddon game. A Lord Commissar and a bunch of Guardsmen with something simple for snap fit (probably an armored Sentinel) vs. a bunch of Orks would be cool, but it would be hard to fit enough models in the box to make it playable.

You're thinking about 7th already? Wow.

They've done blood angels, black templars, ultramarines twice, and now dark angels. I feel like I'm missing one...So, what does that leave? Salamanders, Iron Fists, Imperial Fists? I think imperial fists would be cool. Against Dark Eldar.

There was rumor of the starter set being Sanctuary 101 a couple years ago, and it would have Sisters and Necrons. Guess we all know how that turned out!

I would love to see Armageddon Steel Legion get plastic models in a Starter Set along with some Necrons against them or possibly even some Eldar. Any Xeno race that hasn't been done before would be cool.

Iirc there has been:
SM vs Nids
SM vs orks
SM vs DE
SM vs nids
SM vs orks
and now
DA vs Chaos

this is the 1st time it's actually been specific marines in the starter. When people mention specific marines in a starter set, all there is to go on is the cover art, not the minis.

So we have had orcs twice, nids twice, DE and Chaos once each, if GW is going in a patter, then next should be DE, if not, then it could be anything, but one thing we can count on is it will be marines as usuall.

We've only had nids once. Rogue Trader technically was Marines and Orks too, but it was all cutouts from the rulebook and not actual models!

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)

Introduce diversity, a SM-less starter box... Something like, orks vs nids, they could call the box "WAAAGHHNOM NOM NOM".

Considering all those Chapters done already have a Codex, I would say Space Wolves are the logically missing component to the list.

I feel like Chaos Daemons would be the absolute worst choice for a starter set since they ignore so many core rules of the game necessary for learning.

So if my memory is correct

Orks vs Imperial Fists (could be wrong)
Someone vs Blood Angles
Dark Eldar vs Black Templar
Tyranids vs Ultramarines
Orks vs Ultramarines
Chaos vs Dark Angels

It was Crimson Fists in the Rogue Trader rulebook. They were on the cover of the rules as well.

With all the tears about "Oh gawd another SM army in the Starter set! (of the game that owes a huge portion of their sales to SPACE MARINES)" the 7th edition set should be one thing and one thing only.

Crimson Fists V. Ultramarines

Crimson Fists force:
-1 Captain
-20 Tactical Marines
-10 Sternguard Marines

Ultramarines Force
-1 Chapter Master
-5 Honor Guard
-15 Tactical Marines
-10 Vanguard Vets (With no Jump packs)

31 models for each side; and they shall all be identical (more like Identi-cool, amirite?) sculpt bolter-marines.

1 sculpt; 62 models (That's right folks! 13 more than the 6th edition set!), $110. Limited Edition is $125 (64 models) and includes a Crimson Fist Librarian and an Ultramarine Chaplain (Same bolter-marine sculpt)

VIOLA GW! INSTANT PROFIT

Eldar would be nice, could help new players learn how to coordinate squads for best results. I feel that the starter sets should tend to be generic so people can play all kinds of strategies with them.

Seeing a squad of veterens swoop in in a Vendetta, secure the area, deliver that math assignment, and extract within 2 minutes would be freaking sweet.

Which is good for people of the target demographic (kids) who are getting themselves into a game comparatively much more complicated than modern video games (the popular alternative).
