So, Im getting the new Dark Vengeance set, and I dont know what to do for paint scheme. Dont want to do the crimson slaughter, or anything blue (cause I already have Crimson Fists)

however, if you don't want to make a suggestion, this thread is also for stating which legion/warband's scheme you think would look best on the new models

Word Bearers would look great, but you'd basically be painting them like Crimson Slaughter anyway, since they're heavy on the red. You probably wouldn't want Iron Warriors, since they're not too keen on mutation; fluff that I'll be ignoring when I paint my set. I'd like to see them in Emperor's Children colors though, and Black Legion looks pretty good to me as well.

Black Legion would be good, but I've always been a sucker for Word Bearers.

I was thinking Hakanor's Reavers, but I feel like all the mutations and like.. demons coming out of the armor wouldn't fit with the color scheme. I also had an idea for a white with blue/purple details army, but not too many CSM are painted white

kinda like this, but with blue/purple thrown in, especially for mutations

I was leaning towards Black Legion or Night Lords myself.

Hmm, maybe a Soul Drinkers style scheme

Honestly, this. the Helbrute has so many weird patches on it's torso (the melta-elbow, the whole back, the tentacle-tumor under the CCW; slap some nurgley shizz on that and it'll look decent.

Black Legion is pretty generic and fits most models well because of the dark main color and brighter metallic banding. On the GW site they have an alt color scheme on the closeups that seems to be BL.

Any color scheme should work fine, though. If you are trying to maximize the DV set, do them in Fallen colors and roll the DA models in.

Ummmm...why not Alpha Legion or World Eaters?? The Alpha Legion colors would look amazing on the Hellbrute and Chosen... plus their specialty is cultists...Just sayin... and the World Eaters... for their red and whites and silvers...

I personally can't stand the dark, dingy, blah-zay models I see all the time. Black. Blood red. Navy Blue. Coooooommmmme ooooooooooooooonnn!! There are some truly sweet looking combos and such in the Codex! Admittedly, it might be a bit much to ask people to do some of the more intensive paint jobs but our armies are generally small aren't they? Why do I keep seeing better looking and more interesting Gaurd armies than Chaos?

I'm getting the box myself and these would be my suggestions for an outstanding army that will definitely stand out:

1. Deathmongers/Warp Ghosts - I think they have the same darn paint job. Light mossy grey/green with dark grey trim and gold accents.

2. Night Stalkers - Very light lavender-or-soft grey base with darker purple shades and gold trim.

3. The Pyre - Bright orange base with sweet dark orange shades and yellow touches for highlights, black trim with silver accents.

4. Steel Cobras - Bronze base with dark green trim, gold and silver accents.

The numbers 2 and 3 are by far my favorites but they're all so much better than all the wanna be goth wandering around. Though I guess it's just plain nice to see an opponents army painted from what I've been hearing. I'm just getting back into the game after some time off. Played Night Lords last time around and want something more interesting than spray prime, spray dark blue, follow up gold trim and accents with light high-lights. True the lightning bolts were time consuming to do right but they were so small that the tabletop didn't really show the time and effort I'd put in. I want "BANG, theres my frakkin army biatch!" this time around.

I'm torn between Deathguard with zombie-cultists, and flawless host,

The flawless host colours are amazing, but i think the chosen models are too busy to work a complex paint scheme on =/

Has to be Word Bearers. The whole chaos force fits with the Word Bearer style ( Except its missing daemons.)

My new chaos army will be done with word bearers colours. Think the dv box lends itself well to it

They lend themselves pretty well to Word Bearers, but the Black Legion colour scheme they put up on the GW website blog looks pretty good. In fact, they pretty much work with any of the Legions, except for Iron Warriors... they dont have the right aesthetic for them.

I'm personally painting them in a bronze color for my DIY chapter the Brazen Bulls, but that's just me. honestly I agree with Heatwave they will probably work with just about any color. however the chaos lord did give me a split off 1K Sons feel with the symbol on his cloak (I know you're not looking for blue, so sorry if I'm being extraneous).

It won't be exactly like that, since I couldn't get the orange as bright as like in photoshop, but you get the idea.
