I second this. The DV Chosen are just ace - top-notch, all-around cool. I think I'm just going to convert some Raptors too, either using the Chosen or the old bodies (and jet packs - way cooler than these new ones).

They are hardcover and full colour.
But think of the Australians who can now save money by buying the FW Hell Talon instead of the Helldrake

There's a joke in there somewhere...

Who would have thought the Forgeworld HH book at £70 would suddenly look reasonable when priced next to the new Chaos Marine Codex?

You know, its funny. I suspected that the omission of the 4th ed dex was intentional, but I wasn't sure, so I blundered in anyway.

What the feth is the joke? Chaos hasn't had a codex since the October 2002 Pete Haines version, it's not funny, it's sad. We're nearing the decade mark.

So.. the brass scorpion doesn't look like an animal at all, either?

Come on... this has been the chaos style for some time, it's actually quite retro if you go back and look at all the old Epic Chaos stuff.

I like how they're giving Chaos some unique styling and sculpts rather than "grab X marine thing and add spikes" that has been the default for too long.

No. It doesn't. And it isn't.

The Brass Scorpion is mechanical, with big plates of armour and hinges and metal spikes and gun barrels and claws. It's underside is a mess of cabling and the odd corpse sticking out. It's a mechanical construction inhabited by a Daemon. Ditto for the Blight Drone. The Blood Slaughterer. The Decimator. The Defiler. And so on. The Epic Daemon Engines? They were all giant tanks (in the case of Khorne), wooden contraptions with flesh stretched across them (Nurgle), flying metallic birds (Tzeentch) or giant robot walker thingies (Slaanesh). Even the Soul Grinder makes sense, because it's basically an 'unbound Defiler', with obvious mechanical origins and a daemon melded from the waist down.

The Maulerfiend is a big xeno-creature wearing weird armour. It is nothing like the rest. Even the Dragon fits more with Chaos than the Maulerfiend.

The Brass Scorpion is a mechanical construct that looks like a scorpion. The Maulerfiend is a mechanical construct that looks like a komodo dragon (or the dog creatures from Ghostbusters). Where is the difference? I see possibly a biological skull on the Maulerfiend, with some tattered skin over the robot limbs, but that's no different than what you mentioned above.

Edit: Of course, if I had read ahead a few more pages, I would have seen more than one person make this comparison ...

Interesting to see all the comments on the models. There seems to be people at the far ends of the spectrum: Person A hates the Helldrake, loves the Warp Talons. Person B loves the Helldrake, hates the Warp Talons. Guess that means they are all going to be good sellers?

In general the new figs seems cool to me, but the Obliterators are quite disappointing. I was hoping they were going to tweak the rules to make them great (either CC or Ranged) and make a new plastic kit that allowed you to make either kit. Instead, Finecast models that are less than good looking. Oh well.

As an aside, what does the word feth mean? I see it alot on here.
