Cheaper (I think) than the hard copy, but still a bit on the expensive side for an app which from what little I've seen has only very basic functionality.

It's an interesting idea, but as someone pointed out on the App store, it's a bit sad that the powers are limited to only those in the core rulebook and not the codex powers as well. This means you can't fully track all the psykers in game.

Pretty well a gimmick, very little functionality for 12.99. For 5 I can get an awesome ipad game.
If they want people to buy their apps they need to be cheaper, I have heaps of apps that I purchased at mostly under 5 dollars where under 5 I can purchase an app and feel like I haven't been ripped of if it is a bad app and if cheap you can purchase guilt free
When an app is 12.99 I tend to look past it and with this it's hard to see the value.

GW's really rolling out the gimmicks these days. I'm sure a few people who are all about the digital products may enjoy this, but I'll stick to paper.

Wow, if GW can suck this much money out of people for something that doesn't technically exist, maybe they can keep the cost of models down

No, AU$12.99. GBP£7.99.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Read the GW article:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=4200064

It has all the codex powers as well and includes a warp charge reminder and lets you select the psykers etc.
More than just the basic cards, and for the same price...

I saw a post by someone who actually bought it and he said the app did not include the codex powers even though the article claims it.

The concept is interesting, but the execution is flawed. Far too expensive for what it does. And not available for Android? Way to go, GW, cutting out a fairly large segment of the digital public.

Neat gimmick. Has a few nice perks (according to the article) No new content I can't find in my codex or the rulebook, so this is purely a convince/gaming aid thing.

I'd buy it at .99 cent or possibly $1.99. The price they want? Never.

£7.99 for an app? Lol. Love how GW matches the prices of its electronic goods to the physical ones and expects us to believe that the costs are the same. Was gonna download this but no chance at this price. £2 maybe.

What do the costs of production have to do with it? Is there a quote somewhere that shows that GW are pricing the app at 7.99 because the costs of production are the same as the cards or is this an assumption you have made?

Why is something with more functionality, portability and (potentially) availability than another similar thing worth less because the cost of production are, possibly, lower?

It is worth exactly what your willing to pay for it. For me, I'm not currently willing to pay £7.99 for the cards or app as I need and desire neither.

GW FaceBook wrote:...Our first app for psychic powers has just gone live. Find out more about it here:

If this is the first, they will have more psychic power apps and charge again for each codex psychic powers... maybe as an in app purchase.

I already have the paper cards and paper codex so I doubt I'll pay again and switch to digital where my reward is constantly switching apps codex - powers- codex - powers...
I don't think I'll buy it... playing a game can take 2+ hours and having my phones battery run out seems like a real possibility.
If I take my paper cards to a tournament they wont need re-charging half way through...

Plus the price is too high - I pass.

Panic...

No doubt. I agree It looks great, but it costs too much when we already have the psychic powers in our rulebook / codex.
Which I believe is the problem for all GW digital products, they sell them after everyone has already bought a paper codex/cards/rulebook...

If you look at the responses on the facebook page GW have priced themselves out of most people price bracket for a digital version of something that we all already have in the rule book / cards.

I did a quick tally of comments on that thread. 127 comments
Discarding misc chat and obvious anti GW Rants & GW WhiteKnighting and comments from people who've not indicated how they will spend.
30 people wanting android version.
20 people wanting a lower price for digital content.
10 people who think looks great will buy it.

If we anaylise this demographic of GW facebook customers and who've indicated their willingness to spend
  • At iOS only and selling at £8 - GW have possibly made £80 from 10/127 possible customers
  • If they listened to their customers and lowered the price to £3 they'd possibily make £90 30/127 possible customers
  • If they also sold to android at £3 a pop they would make £180 from 60/127 possible customers - half their customers

  • Panic...

But that is not how organisations with more than 3 people work.

They've got an "app"-team-division somewhere with a mission/vision/threat from the upper management to "pilot" apps on iOS and better make massive profits too, as to prove it's worth it. If they can meet their targets, they'll think about scaling up to different systems.

Doesn't seem to have Ork (Weirdboy/Zogwort) powers on, so I'm not interested.

Also, not owning an iPhone or iPad limits my interest. If it worked on my MacBook I'd be more interested.

I'm not familiar with iOS products but would this app work on an iPod touch? I keep thinking about buying one of those, no way would I buy an iPhone and I think an iPad purchase is a long way off.

get an iphone 4 its so cheap now a days. IOS is the update for your Iphone Ipad and Itouch. Basicly it means if you got one of the newer Itouches you can just upgrade your software if you have not already and get it.

But lots people have jailbroekn their devices so they may have to wait till and jailbreak for the new software.

I personally will get it. looks good because I don't have the cards or the rule book.

I own an ipad2 and I have paid for lots worthy apps but at this price for a product made out of thin air the price sucks IMO.
Dunno I think they ll have to reconsider. But since we know the way GW behaves and thinks this is not going to happen.

Yes it would, as long as it is a fairly modern one. The iPod touch is basically an iPhone, without the phone bit. My son's iPod touch can run apps that my iPad1 can't!

Prestige games come with prestige prices. Boutique stores have boutique prices. Beyond that, it's priced at what the market will bear. The best way to get the price down is to simply not buy it.

I bought this app just to check it out and see for real what it was like. I found it to be super useful and super cool. Overcosted? Yes but no more overcosted than anything that GW prints on paper.

I always have a pile of trouble finding any of the apps or books that GW publishes. Is there a place on their website with links? The app store and iBook store are useless when looking for these.

The price won't come down. When was the last time GW reduced price on anything?

If it doesn't sell, they'll axe the product completely and assume nobody wants it, not that they priced it too high.
