So my armies are expanding once again, and this time I'm doing a Starcraft themed army with deathwing terminators playing the role of marines with allied Zerg using IG rules. there's just one point I'm stuck at: how do I convert nids to look enough like Zerg that my opponent won't think I'm playing nids? I know my counts as IG leader will be infested Kerrigan so the CCS is out of the way, I just need some other ideas for Zergifying the IG staples like the basalisk, the leman russ, the valkyrie and other stuff like that. any and all ideas are much appreciated.

Kerrigan is a Primaris Psyker if ever there was one

The problem is that none of the Zerg units fit neatly into IG squad types. A fair proportion of Zerg units don't even have guns. They are the same as Tyranids and the cross pollination is quite apparent between the IPs.

That aside, some ideas:
- Overlords as Valkyries? they are the only thing in the zerg background that has had transport capacity and some of the newer versions have other abilities that you could count as rocket pods or something.
- Guardian as Basilisk, again the only real artillery unit the Zerg have.

You can't?

Your idea is bad, and will be a poor application of 'counts as'. It will confuse people.

Why not play them as Nids apart from powergaming implications?

@ Flinty: I know if only you could ally with nids:( any other ideas for armies that ally with DA and would work for Zerg?
@nkelsh: well because I want to have Raynor and Kerrigan fighting alongside one another,
Spoiler:
like they will in the ending of heart of the swarm

This army would confuse the hell out of me. Its an army based off of zerg, which was originally based off of nids, but isn't nids?

Perhaps making the Zerg contingent infested Terrans would work better. An Infestor would make a pretty sweet Chimera stand in.

you want to make not-nids count as IG...? I don't see it. Maybe try protoss elder/tau or something

you know what, let me get the mini's in my hands, then we'll see what I can do with them. I may have to play fast and loose with the zerg breeds (but than again the zerg play fast and loose with the zerg breeds) I've already got an idea to make a counts as guardsman out of a termigaunt by extending the barrel of their fleshborers or something else. I did a quick google and found a good basilisk:

@Eladrain: I agree an infestor would make an awesome chimera and a manticore could be someting like a swarm host launching scourges:

@seanm222: I'll do my best to make it not like nids, also it's only the allied detachment that is zerg, the rest is deathwing. that's how you'd know it wasn't nids.
@BBL: the problem is the two characters I want Raynor and Kerrigan would mean that I'd need to use zerg.

I simply don't get why you cannot use nids for zergs... can you give us a better explanation?

yea, but honestly I didn't expect this to cause so much hullabaloo. it's just I've got Samurai IG, and viking IG, I'm all pooped on historical based armies. I was looking for something different, something that isn't just a plain ol' human, but I want them to work with my other armies. I guess if it's too much trouble I can scrap it and go with some other game. anyone have any good ideas?

sincerely... proxing Zergs as IG doesn't look appropriate at all... Use nids and if you want to play them all together ask your opponent's permission...

yea, I guess you're right, and I can always go with one of my other favorite video game series of all time: C&C: Red Alert. I figure the Sci Fi greatcoat guys from WGF will make great conscripts.

I'm not very familiar with Starcraft, having never played, but you could maybe pull of Daemons with Zerg. They have a wide range of units to count as, and daemons can basically take on whatever form they like. Also, AFAIK, Daemons and IG can ally, so they would play well with your other armies. Barring that, 'Nids would be your best choice. As has been said above me, the Zerg were based on 'Nids, so the counting-as will be pretty straightforward. Those are pretty much your only good options for counts-as Zerg in 40k

The daemons idea is a good one. There are flamer analogues, lots of CC beasties and you could do a mean soul grinder/omegalisk conversion

You could even do the whole thing as chaos space marines and have the whole thing allied up
