I'm not paying £45 for a dragon model i dont like when i have a perfectly useable hellbalde model already (that hardly ever sees table time).

All that was missing was a repaint and some sort of flamer to count as the Baleflamer the Heldrake has.

I went with the Flamerstorm barrel from the Baal Predator kit. Found it online for £3.00 including postage.

As you can see it slots nicely between the 2 autocannons on the FW model.
There is also plenty of space to magnetise the weapons if you want to (i didnt as i am poor and, more importantly, lazy)

Once you have the parts it is a really quick conversion. it took me about 6 hours over 3 nights but only becasue I had to repaint the model as well. The actual turret was painted and pinned in place within a couple of hours (most of that was allowing washes to dry)

Anyway, pics:

I like your version, some might whinge about the size once on the tabletop, but I'd rather meet yours.

The conversion is simple, effective, and most importantly, looks good. Well done!

From what i can tell by WD pics, the models are more or less the same size.

I have made the flying stand so it is the same height as a normal GW one. But when i first got the model (years ago) the currect flying stand didnt exist.

The stand is a perspex rod stuck in a base of plaster (moulded in a tuna tin of all things!).

i've got a pic of it next to a Nightscythe somewhere, i'll see if i can post it as well for a size comparison.

Yeah I was thinking silhouette/areawise, not that I'd personally care as I said. Some people are more picky than others.

My only issue is that the superfluous autocannons are a tad confusing, but a good use of a great model nonetheless.

Not just the Hellblade, but I've also been shopping for alternatives to the Helldrake. Do you mind measuring height, width, depth on that thing so I've got a general size to go off? Seeing as how we all have just magazine pictures.

Yeah I like the Hellblade better than the Helldrake model.

I think the Helldrake can attack /assault flyers. If this is true, then add some chains with grappnels or other hooks to represent this. Just my $.02.

I was thinking about adding what looks like rotating buzzsaw coming from the underside of the hellblade, like it can fly really close to enemy flyer and cause damage with the saws. It's funny to think that the hellblade a forgeworld model is actually only $9 more then the helldrake. I'm thinking I might start a fallen angels army, and tI think they'd use hellblades over helldrakes (or any daemon type unit)

@MasterSlowpoke - The heldrake can take the Autocannon OR the Flamer. if you coudl be bother it woudl be easy to magnetise the options. I couldn't be bothered so i will states durign deployment "this is a count-as Helldrake with a Baleflamer - ignore the autocannons".


if i play it a few times and find that the flamer is always abetter option, then i might remove the cannons (they are only on by superglue so will just snap off.

I just built my first Helldrake this evening. I am not sure what some of you are smoking, but it is the
most awesome looking model in the chaos army IMO. You really need to see it in person, it is wickedly cool.

Also, it is surprisingly easy to magnetize the head to swap out the Baleflamer & Hades Autocannon. This tutorial
explains exactly how to do it. However, I didn't use 2 magnets in the neck as it is not needed.

Note: The Helldrake kit is only 2 sprues and is easy to put together. I thought the box would be filled with sprues, but it is
not the case.

It's also £45 which is the second reason i didn't get it - i've had the Hellblade sitting around collecting dust for a while now.

I agree they are expensive. And when you open the box and see only 2 sprues, you have to wonder at the price......
