They're caught on the high of the RFID program. Its only been around I think 5 yrs. Whoever implementing the program needs not be elected into position again. Its like 500 a freq per student...bah I would go indepth but it gets expensive over time. This sucker going to add up. BTW the machine to imprint the freq onto the chip is like 11K since its the main node to transfer the info to the program itself.

It's like schools who go out and buy ipads for all the students because some big wig went to a seminar on digital learning over the summer holiday and decided that ipads were the way to go.

They are desperate to get better performace evaluations (which equals more money for the district) and so in there terror they turn to forces they don't fully understand...

Wonder who will be running the system. The school admin or offsite RFID personnel. I would ask for a freq but that will literally cut my throat if I track it since I have to imput my unit UIC (unit identification code) to start the track. This is not....even a good idea. Now that I think about it it cannot be local if its putting out a freq it means I can pick it up. If a cargo and a kid have the same freq I can view both.

I don't think the school would be using the same sort of system that the Military is using.

Would these be "proximity" RFID? As in, it'll have to cross some detection (front door, cafeteria room, etc...)?

Forgot the other program I use to track things is a Global Tracking Network. That would give me for an example a itenerary on any civilian airlines on someone by name alone. Be it airport, ship (cruise) port, bus station, and whatever they imput your name, freq, TCN, UIC, or whatever

Somebody didn't do the maths in that article. It says $175,000 a day, but that works out at $63 million and change. For a school disctrict of 100,000 kids. For that many kids the total budget is going to be in the ballpark of $63 million, so the idea that's the truancy penalty only makes sense is every single kid is failing to attend school every single day.

In other news, this kind of thing just blows my mind every time I hear it. Because the idea is just a crazy response to the problem, and because I know the arguments against it are going to be even crazier (mark of the beast). It's just, you know, a load of money that could probably be better spent on all kinds of other stuff, but it isn't a sign of the end times, nor is it any kind of abuse of the kid's civil liberties.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

You know, like textbooks that are actually up to date. Or the salaries of Teachers. Or working lab equipment. Silly expenses like that.

Do government payment programs pump out more cash when a students is in school, learning from an up to date textbook?

This is the problem with incentive schemes, they almost always suck, and encourage the end user to game them in stupid ways (like mandatory RFID to make the student attend, but not actually do anything to make sure he learns something while he's there).

Exactly. Once again a bureacratic answer to a nonissue that just happens to violate our rights. Terminate them. Fire them too.

RFID and GTN can be found on the internet. Everyone cannot access them. GTN requires a security clearence.and literally a blessing from God. Your name has to be on a approved list to be accepted to use GTN due to the nature of the information you can draw on. Example be Albatross upcoming visit to the USA. I can access his airline passenger list. for each leg of his flight. Another system I rarely use though but able to draw on is one run by the Air Force. Its called "Gates" but that just shows me what incoming/outgoing cargo from the Air Force.

Bit more on GTN
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/budget/fy1998/dot-e/airforce/98gtn.html

Also bear in mind. DoD contractors/workers are civilians. Hence I have overview on them.

Don't know exactly How it works, but the students now have two cards, the old and the RFID one, as that person in the article is using their old card, could you not just leave your RFID card somewhere overnight, in a locker, tied to a fence post etc. then grab it when you need to get lunch or go into a common area and just use your normal card for everything else?

I truly do not think the implementation plan is taking this idea to heights it could reall'y hit. They could hand out the cards on the first day of term, get everybody into class then shoot them all. All that perfect atttendance will get the school money whilst saving cash on expenses.
Maybe I shouldn't joke or someone in america will try this idea out......wait maybe columbine already did?

Can these be tracked via sattelite and IPAD app? It sounds like a stalker's dream. As we have a stalker in our past, this is an issue.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

On the bright side, maybe this will inspire some students to build their own EMP projector (I doubt the schools are using milspec RFID).

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

What really bothers me about all this, is that the students have to "check in" at 8pm. Now, when I was in school, there were very few occasions where I would be anywhere near school grounds at that hour, why should the students have to let the school know where they are on their own time?

Also, @Jihadin: I felt like I was back in a CRSP yard, yelling at some jack-wagon with a Terex about where the RFID tag on my cargo was, after reading your posts. Thanks for bringing up all those bad memories...

Y'know what my school did for truancy? Like for anyone late in my senior year?
Sent them to the office, to get a special card printed up or something, and then you would go back to class. the line would be so bad, students would sit there for the whole class period.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Some schools in the uk (usually larger high schools and 6th form collages) have electronic swipe cards to let students into and out of classes and buildings - my wife went to a school with these 10 years or more ago.

Wake up calls are ok, but I don't know how they can ask you where you are at 8pm... And RF location tracking outside school grounds and hours should not be done.
