The problem is causing the taint is easy while getting rid of it is not. :/ Especially if you don't like thaumcraft to begin with, like me. I guess I could just make a gakfethton of Totems of Dawn... though I don't think that prevents the taint :/ If we DO end up getting FTB, the thing I'm looking forward to the most is GregTech. The IDSU is going to be so useful... The IDSU is to energy storage what an enderchest in vanilla is to item storage (also, it stores one billion EU, which is redonkulous).

if you want to give FTB a go just pop on my server and i will give you a little run arroung of what i have done in a week, i tend to focus on the IC, BC, and forestry machines and like doing simple things realy inefficiantly on my server at the moment i only have 3 people who actualy know what they are doing with the mod the other guy can hardly make a skeleton spawner, no jokes.
though i cannot say enough that i will be resetting the world when Red power is added so i can get volcanos and marble

I'll be able to deal with Taint. And Totems of Dawn do actually stop it- however, they're made with Silverwood, which is rather rare. Best way to deal is to fence it off, start pumping Vis into the area (to re-balance the Aura) and then use Void Crushers to destroy the Taint. However, that's why I said we need fast response- a mapping tool like we have for the servers will certainly help there, so we don't miss bits of taint over hills and stuff.
Also, Volcanoes and certain other 'natural' formations will block it too. IE, I have to use stupid thaumcraft items in order to fix a stupid thaumcraft feature that, stupidly, is forced upon me without me choosing to use it or not. It's a dumb mod and any modpack that includes it is lesser for including it. :/

Thaumcraft is still the only system which allows for the production of Iron Ore, which can be fed to Macerators. There's a way to game the system so that you can actually use EE and Thaumcraft to create infinite renewable EE energy or Vis (and by extension, pretty much anything else in the game.)
If EE3 gets rid of Condensers and Collectors, Thaumcraft will be the only way to have automated production facilities.
And all you need to battle Taint, really, is a good drill and a lot of wooden planks. Just surround it before it gets too big, and make the wall high enough that Tainted mobs don't get by.

Again, that's the stupid design of an unwanted mod forcing itself on you. Every other mod in the pack you can just ignore or use at your leisure. If you don't want to use equivalent exchange, you don't have to-- go play your science seahorse. If you don't want to deal with forcefields or nuclear reactors, you don't have to. If you'd prefer not to deal with pipes and tubes and etc, you can just ignore buildcraft. But if you don't want to play thaumcraft, you still have to play thaumcraft, one way or the other. If EE3 removes condensors, oh well? I'll use mass fabricators-- infinite iron ore through massfab is perfectly fine for me. I dislike thaumcraft.

I know you guys aren't particularly fond of creative, but it could be very useful for clearing Taint en masse. We find an area with Taint in it, admins flick to creative, clean up the area and destroy everything they had to build. Simple.
And ATM I'm still trying to get my head around Thaumcraft. Are there any rules about making dimensions? Like we can only have one per person or something? You can delete each dimension from the server files, so if we don't like the one we get, we can just get it deleted and make another or something.
Just my thoughts. But I'm happy Forestry is back in, and EE3 has the right idea; RM is incredibly overpowered. Hell, DM is borderline OP. But I'll be sad to see the condenser go: it was good while it lasted.

TBH, I agree with mellisa, even if it is clearable features that force you to use a mod are pretty gak.
the only other similarity I could draw is Railcraft with it's new rail recipie, but that doesn't ruin your map and try to kill you.

No, Thaumcraft isn't in Tekkit- if it were, the entire map would probably be purple by now, and you'd need to start carpet bombing the place with nukes to clear it.
And the Dimensions, as far as I know, aren't actually a Thaumcraft addition. They're Mystcraft- you're talking about the Books, right?

It shows up randomly in some loaded chunks- so I'd actually either use a mapping program that's compatible, or manually explore to look for it, just in case. Though it could be that if you just stay put, you'll be alright as well.

Also, Thaumcraft 3 (the version that was released and will soon be put into the main ftb pack) removes taint. There is now Vis and Flux.
The only bad thing Flux does is spawn wisps, and make it harder for your magical items to recharge. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, I should say now, Gregtech in ftb, among other things, makes solar panels and drills harder to make.

you dont have to tell me that greg tech makes things harder, i ALWAYS use solar power and gregtech has made the already annoying solar pannels reach a new level of rage for me, though one thing i find thet FTB has better than tekkit is the fact that you can mix item ID's in crafting which the last time i played on a tekkit server (1.2.3) you couldnt use specific items mixed in crafting (this is a confusing thing to understand) but the FTB pack unifies the mods alot more than tekkit

Yep, but that's because of the forge ore dictionary
Gregtech does make a good change to the ore dictionary, BC Gates can be used instead of Circuits and Adv. Ciruits Automatically Appended Next Post: I also like that the twilight forest mod is in ftb, I love the twilight forest

Alternatively, if you have reccomendations for free or open-source Video and Audio-capture software that's virus-free...

i am a massive fan of the IC, BC and forestry mix i also like the fact that red power is fast on its way and will make my prototype diamond making machine much more efficiant
as for the more "magical" mods i could take or leave them i used to use EE a little bit but found it way too over powered especialy when hooked up to a Red power cobble farm also it dosnt work well with my building style and for all i care can be ignored completly, one thing i am wanting to do is learn a bit about mystcraft so i can have my mushroom biome without the downsides of imediatly after i get one the world becomes unplayable for some reason or another and i can use them to gather lava without draining the nether

I would be happy to carpet bomb but anyway, if we did switch to ftb, would there be anyway to disable thaumcraft or something? in my experience it keeps destroying my worlds, so in that respect, I agree with Mel.
