The village right near spawn has been claimed if that is ok by everyone. Im gonna turn it into a small Fortress, then focus on building a one of these destroying one of these in the megabuild age, once its not a test server, so they wont get rolled out of existence

well, having a look through the Portal Guns available, there is quite a few variations. And, none of them seem to be that demanding. The hardest item(s) would be Nether Stars.

Dark, if we as a community decide to develop our own version of the [annoying robot voice on]Apature Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center[annoying robot voice off] would it be possible to get the Nether Stars obtainable through 'tests' in vast quantities, as opposed to just going and getting them (which is an option if people want to)

Though I probably won't dive into FtB, at least for a while, I'll happily provide an annoying voice to yell at people when they screw up whilst I'm torturing them in the name of science!

I've changed my mind on the mob griefing thing. It's not just the creepers, but ghasts also no longer tear up the landscape of the nether, making it a far too safe place.

4oursword wrote:Well, I did lose a lot. 2 Diamonds inclusive. It really sucks. Seeing as it was mostly down to lag, could I be reimbursed of any of it?
I've had atrocious luck on the FTB server though, as matapata will tell you...

Sure of course.

Xeriapt wrote:The village right near spawn did have villagers in it but they appeared to die off or become zombies over about an hour of me playing.
Was annoyed, I wanted to trade them for a diamond pick.

So, far as I can see villagers are indeed not spawning.

Villagers come with a village, if they die they don't come back. This is normal behaviour for any Minecraft server. However, as long as there are at least two surviving villagers, they will usually make babies. The main problem is not that they don't get into their houses before the zombies come, it's that in the morning, they all run out the houses before the zombies have burned up, and then they all get slain by burning zombies. I'll happily replace villagers in naturally spawning villages that have suffered this problem.

Those poor silly villagers, I imagine death by burning zombie to be pretty painful.

That's one of the main downsides of killing zombies with fire. If there's anything worse than a bunch of zombies running at you, its a bunch of zombies running at you whilst on fire.

Nope, I can't do it, I can't keep a straight face and say that.

Dark since it's a test server that'll very likely be reset when the full pack comes out, would it be possible for me to get a Nether Star or have the fight against the Wither set up so I can see how the portal gun goes? I've managed to collect everything else for it's construction.

I found one in that Wisp spawner in the hills near spawn. I might let you borrow it...

Alternatively, go try your luck in other dungeons. I've generated a few test worlds before this and have frequently found Portal guns in chests on or near the surface. Either I'm very lucky, or they're not as rare as you think.

So trying singleplayer FTB. I keep exploding. It's terrible.

Also, Large Biomes makes it kiinda hard to find Silverwood when you spawn in a Desert.

next port of call, now that weve got a voice to yell at people, is start wiring redstone esque things that will drop boxes(blocks), turrets(skeletons) and other sort of random GLaDOs deathtraps on wherever the Portal arena will be.

Also, should we build it underground, or have a massive building above ground?

Both. Make it go from bedrock to sky limit, filled with pipes, transport tubes, and all sorts of other fancy things.

You'd probably be able to use Redpower Deployers (or Buildcraft with Dispensers) to 'spawn' turrets, if you can get your hands on a source of skeleton eggs.

That'd explain the half dozen or so that visit my tree house then.
I hadn't thought about them being in places like that, I thought I'd have to grab the materials from the more usual spots.

Corpsesarefun wrote:ftb.darkinnit.com:25585 right?

Correct.
Just checking the obvious, but make sure you're using the Feed the Beast launcher (and not TechnicLauncher). Make sure you're selecting the "Direwolf20 v5.0.1" modpack from the Feed the Beast Launcher before logging in. When you get to the main Minecraft screen, make sure it lists an FML version number in the bottom left (and not just the Minecraft version number).
If after all that you still can't connect, it gets a bit more interesting.
Try 176.9.48.109:25585 as the server address (that's the raw IP for ftb.darkinnit.com, it's just harder to remember).
Make sure you don't have any firewall blocking Outgoing TCP port 25585 (would be strange that Minecraft's default 25565 is allowed but 25585 is blocked, but I don't know your setup. Also, most firewalls only block incoming by default and leave outgoing alone).
I have more, but don't want to turn this into a wall of text, so try these first and see if they work.

Feed the Beast has some mods that Tekkit doesn't (PortalGun, Twilight Forest, amongst others)
Tekkit has some mods that Feed the Beast doesn't (Balkon Weapons Mod, Immibis mods, amongst others)
It's mainly a preference thing.
However, one of the core reasons I'm switching to Feed the Beast is that the developers of the various mods are working directly with the Feed the Beast team to ensure it all works smoothly. Furthermore, the Feed the Beast community seems to be a lot better.

Xeriapt wrote:My hobby engines all seem to have exploded...

Did you put water in them while they were empty, but still hot? Or did you get an excess buildup of power in conductive pipes?

As long as they have enough water, they shouldn't explode (even if they build up too much power), and even if they run out of water, you just have to let them cool before putting water in them again.
Conductive pipes can explode if they're getting power put into them, but have nowhere for it to go. However, they can store quite a lot before exploding.

Well I've found another thing the portal gun mod brings that's fun.

Easily now my favourite mod ever.

One thing though is you need to be very careful with portals. Sucked a village to the moon in creative.

Yeah I found out it was because the redstone energy cell filled up while I wasnt on, I assume other people in the area loaded the chunk so the engines kept running.
Im using electrical engines now apparently they wont explode but we shall see.
