Stickmonkey wrote:Just going to leave this here as the DA thread is closed now.
Looks like my sourcing is again off on timelines. So I'm putting in an update on it here, lots of things have changed to me since my last timeline thread. (I want to repeat, these are rumors, almost none of this really "changes" per se, GW's got their plan, I don't, I get information that aligns from a few sources and try to base what I tell you on that)
Was correct on WoC for Nov, as that's in the bag now, moving on to Dec.
Dec:
No DA. Boo. Hiss. Eating crow again. Looks like what we can expect for Dec is a lot of Hobbit as expected, and I believe a little surprise is still in store.
There is an outside possibility of 2 terrain pieces and 3 flyers, but I'm really expecting these now to be in a spring wave.
Jan:
Daemons. Still on track. Vetock doing WFB and 40k books, but I havent had confirmation that the books are actually coming in Jan. Expect Greater Daemons in plastic, a couple new chariots, a new daemon engine, and a couple new characters (well...characters which have never received models) Word is the Daemons update will not be a huge overhaul to the current book. Expect few new units. But the new GD models are phenomenal, love every one of them, especially the new GUO. None of the new units are single system, everything is in both 40k and WFB now.
Feb:
Hobbit/LOTR are the biggest contendors right now.
Might be a splash month for 40k in the form of that missing flyers wave. Still trying to get more info on when it might see light of day.
March:
Rumors point to WoC Army book. But with all the new models coming in Nov, I'm not sure what is left to release with it.
April:
New rumored slot for DA now. Yes, I'm sorry, rumoring sucks, you get told a lot and its very difficult to sort out what is fit to pass on and what is not.
However, I am being told some of those rumored generic SM kits may get released along side the DA codex and DA specific models. So thats something promising.
May:
WFB model wave and army book. High Elves I'm being told.
June:
Nothing hard, rumors range from the flyer wave to Tau to new fortifications to the 40k supplement book (allies?)
Lead contendor is the Flyers if they dont get an earlier slot.
July:
Most likely slot for this rummored 40k supplement book.
Beyond that:
Tau and Eldar are the only codexes with some weight behind it to come late in the year I expect Tau following DA, and right now it does look like Eldar will follow Tau.
I should also add the 2nd Horus Heresy book from FW is being rumored to me to be late Spring/Early Summer.
(...)
Pretty sure we have Vetock doing CD, Ward on DA, Cruddace on Tau, Kelly on Eldar. FWIW

Why? Tau and Eldar were released back-to-back in 2006. So they might again. 2008 also had Orks and Chaos Daemons back to back. Don't see how this is anything new. Back in 2000/2001 they actually had a Craftworld Eldar, Tyranids, Tau triple-series.

More recently, Necrons were followed by Chaos Space Marines, so that's 2 non-Imperium releases in a row. I suppose you can make the argument that chaos isn't xenos, but then, I think your main point was 2 non-imperium forces in a row, so my point stands. For the most part, that has been the general trend, yes.

Um. No. I think the release goes "small release first half of the year (5 to 8 new mini-kits)" and "big release second half of the year (8+ mini kits)".
As seen this spring, the "small release" (Wolves/Tyranids) might not even be a Codex at all. Big make-overs (Dark Eldar) or big flag-ship armies (Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines) usually get the autumn / pre-christmas slot.
Also note how some of the big releases are far greater in scale. Dark Eldar famously got more miniatures out than Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Grey Knights taken together. I know, Dark Eldar really needed it, etc., etc., but look at it from the view of a miniature companies logistics.
The smaller Space Marine releases (Blood Angels, Grey Knights, presumably Dark Angels) are usually their stop-gap for the smaller release windows (as they only tend to have 2 or 3 plastic kits max, a few finecast) while they schedule their year around the "big stuff" (new editions, big releases like Dark Eldar, etc..).

Sympathies for DA players but for me this is quite positive..
I'm likely to be better off financially for the new generic kits if they make it out for April.
If the next HH book is indeed late spring, that could hint at a twice yearly release schedule, which means the second Istvaan V book, and therefore my Raven Guard stuff, is in fact less than a year away.
I just got a Krull from Banelegions for a counts as bloodthirster in my 'one day' CD army. If I keep at it, I should be ready to start a new force about the time the Daemons are supposed to be updated.
Again, sorry to DA players, but next year is looking good for me.

And then there's the fact that my HE will get raped something fierce I'm sure.

It's hardly broken. It affects all of 1 unit and 2 characters in an " OP" manner.
9 point spearmen need something besides WS4 going for them.

Oops, I forgot swordmasters, who should have GW ASF anyway according to fluff.
I'd be ok with WL hitting on initiative since they are S4, granted SM have an extra attack which is worth way more.
Still, ignoring Teclis and MAYBE the Book of Hoeth, HE are far from overpowered as a whole.

Unless there are some of these surprises on the side I wouldn't have any new GW releases to buy until april (not that that's a bad thing necessarily, lol).

I think this is inaccurate. The best publicly available hint for what is being released is the Black Library coming soon section. For the last several releases, BL has released books not related to their major franchises that match the codecies being released at the same time. We got new CSM novels and audiobooks for CSM dex for the CSM dex, and A new sisters novel for the sisters dex for instance. Based off my reading of the Black Library release schedule, I'd argue for January DA, March Tau.

No, they're not, people just tend to use them the same. Broken means that it doesn't work as intended or that it needs tweaking to be fixed, overpowered means that it's way beyond the norm(as examples, either by being undercosted or outright ignoring the rules of the game) and thus shifts the balance too much in one direction. Those two concepts are NOT the same thing. To use the High Elf book as an example(since we're talking about it): Teclis is overpowered not just due to his cost vs his abilities, but also because of how much of the magic negatives he ignores to gain his positives. He actually makes or breaks entire games with little to no regard to what else is around him in the list. High Elf ASF is broken when compared to standard ASF because it removes the interaction with ASL, but it's not overpowered because it doesn't actually shift the balance of the game as a whole. Understand the difference?
