Well they didnt name it the wall of martyrs for nothing i suppose. But on a brighter note the dead dont cover every bit of the walls, and they look easy enough to cover over with some greenstuff.

I dunno... I still find the idea of 'trenches' terrain where the trench floor is the same height as the ground kinda defeats the purposes of trenches.

Maybe they won't call 'em trenches...
I heard GW was thinking of calling it "Space Marines are too good to hide in a ditch" kit...

I think we have to be pragmattic... the only other way you could do a trench kit would be to sell more of those giant tiled board sections that people complained about. I think its good enough as it only has to be representative. Its not as if people complain that our minis scale to having a 1ft platform that follows under their feet.

I'm unsure if I like the look of this wall. While it does really capture the images of a desperate last stand, it seems to make the terrain very army specific.

Wall of Martyrs says it all

Trenches would need to be cut into a board

so a Comissionar organised a mass slaughter of IG, then got a second regiment to build a 'Wall of Martyrs' with their bodies

I'm not complaining as the whole unit looks great. And the pile of dead can be used by either loyalists to show their desperation of chaos as a taunt/ way to terrify said desperate loyalists.

IF I get this set I'll be covering them up with something - probably cutting them off and then covering up the holes/marks/etc. with rubble or something similar.

It really depends upon how many Piles O'Cadians are on the thing...

Have put this in the things to buy pile! We are going to start the IA 11 campaign and some IG themed defences would be perfect!

I know actual trenches require cutting into the board. I just hope they don't call 'em 'trenches', 'cause they aren't! 'Defensive Line' will be fine.

Sorry guys, the piles o Cadians are indeed moulded on.. as are numerous other bits and pieces. And there are no rules for the use of this piece in the Nov WD.

They're moulded on? Uhh... not so good.

But don't worry, we'll get rules for them - an iOS only file for the low-low price of £9.99.

"It's not such a bad model once you rescuplt it!"

Y'know a year or two ago I might ahve been all over these to make starship corridors. As is these look good (but for the dead bodies), much better the Aegis Jersey Barriers, but the Aegis Jersy barriers are much faster to paint and easier to store and trasport and, alas, those are now top concerns of mine.

No worries there, the official name is Wall O'Dead Guardsmen.

Just noticed the crates look molded on too, so every single wall has the exact same box in the exact same spot. AND the walls are trickier to paint in a hurry.

No wonder these trenches look like the Dark Angel Fortress:

Stickmonkey 25th September:
Rumor is there is something else for the heavy slot too, but no info specific to it.

Fortifications:
Siege cannon ( this is supposedly the Techmarine cannon described earlier)
Battle bunker

Stickmonkey today:
Well, thats the bunker i mentioned in my DA thread.

It doesn’t make sense to me though. Is it called the Wall of Martyrs because all those Cadians died assaulting the defensive lines, and the bodies are of those that didn’t make it. If not then why are the bodies outside the defensive line? Are they Cadians who went ‘over the top’ (so to speak) only to die in droves immediately, so much so that they bodies now clog up the front of every emplacement? Wouldn’t it make more sense to have bodies inside the trench-line, or have Gaunts/Orks/anything outside it?

Maybe they toss their dead over the wall to mark their sacrifice and so even in death they protect the Emperor?

It could work, but yeah, if terrain needs explanation like that it has a problem.

I like it. Also if Fantasy is any indication you can forget Xenos terrain. All the Fantasy terrain is geared toward humans or Chaos and pretty much just the Empire. I'm sure there will be plenty of Chaos players taking this set and making it look like the Cadians were torture victims or Nurglifying them.

Couldn't agree more. My excitement for this piece went from a 10 to a 3 upon reading that the Cadians are molded into the terrain. Guess I can save the money in the vain hope that GW releases Dark Eldar/Eldar terrain.

I wouldn’t mind it so much if the Cadians were bits that fit onto the front of a few panels – y’know, an actual option. Then they’d be great. You could use them on other buildings, or ruins, or just make grisly bits of terrain (with Khornate champs standing atop them).

But moulded on? Uhh... what were they thinking?

I realy wish all the imperial Army badges were separate in all honesty more then the Gaurdsmen. That way it's easier for Orks and Chaos to loot. Or even convert to look more Ad Mec for if your trying to model a battlefield taking place on a Forge World.

Sadly they are probably a integrated part of the terrain. =/

Oh my god, yes! I'd snatch up multiple sets if that were the case. As is, if I bought this terrain I'd have to come up with some stupid story as to why my Praetorians are defending a section of trench with dead Cadians. I mean sure, it could be done, but if the bits were optional and I could have trenches customizable to my own army I'd be happily throwing money at GW. Not to mention how much fun it would be incorporating those Cadian casualty bits into other projects. What a major missed opportunity on GW's part.

Oh well. My Praetorians can fight and die behind sandbags and Aegis Defense lines like every other non-Cadian Guard army--and look sharp while doing it.

Someone needs to photo shop a fortress made entirely of dead guardsmen.
