This has just popped onto GW online

Containing all 144 Citadel Paints, the Ultimate Paint Set is the mightiest set of paints that Games Workshop has ever produced. All of these paints come in a robust and hard-wearing cardboard unit that features 6 pull-out drawers, each of which contains a plastic tray inside to keep them upright and secure. Though these drawers are labelled clearly already, this set also includes a set of stickers so that you can arrange and label the paints in a way that suits your own hobby needs.

Included in the set are 34 Base paints, 12 Shades, 70 Layer paints, 6 Texture paints, 15 Dry Compounds, 4 Glazes and 3 Technical paints.

Works out to be 15% off. And you get a spiffy cardboard box to store them in, too.

That actually would be tempting for me, if I still used GW paints. But ever since I won my Reaper Master Series set in a tournament a few years back, I'll never go back. I'm in love with dropper bottles.
At least in US$, it's a good price, works out to $3.12 per paint, and you get a decent organizer for it all. Although, is there extra space in it for extra paints, or will it only hold the 144 paints it comes with? If it can only hold what it comes with, may not be such a good buy, after all.

They are the colour of the drybrush colours, but have the consistency of layer paints. Actually I have a use for one of those, but not a single pot in a limited set:

After my Third pot of GW washes tipped, I decided i was done with pots.
But i still have all these paints in pots, it will take years to replace them sadly.

$1,000,000 and a 50% discount

Not really much of a fan of the mega-paint set or 'ultimate' paint set ever since they stopped including a case/brushes.

A cardboard drawer system is not quite as good as a full plastic case in terms of utility and transportability and there's very little extra included value - as per their current trend of pretending to be giving us massive savings (such as the one-click bundles) when doing nothing of the sort. However benefit of the doubt until I see reviews of the cardboard box.

The edge paint is certainly a winner since they dropped the foundation set (which was pastel).

I'm always mystified about people who carry around their ENTIRE paint set with them. Why would you do that? If you go to a game shop or a friends house to paint, you're likely only going to be there a few hours and how many pots can you possible need for that? A handfull at most, usually.

Buying this paint set from GW will get you about 15% off the price of buying 144 pots separately. Buy this paint set from an online retail (who posted in another thread in this forum) and you'll save 25% off the already discounted price. That works to about 37% off list price per individual pot.

It's a pretty good deal on GW paint. The question is, do you want to drop that much money on paint or not?

What do you mean, they're saving you the several minutes it would have taken you to add everything to the cart yourself. You can't put a price on time!

Yes. We get it. You're pissed about the prices in Australia. Please contact GW, the people who might give tou a straight answer or a solution.

Now, back on topic...

I have always wanted the justification to buy one of these bad boys. I just wish I painted more...

The paint set is the topic. I don't see how talking about the price of said set is really off-topic.

Shipping costs.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

There's a certain amount of hubris about those one-click bundles that I love.

"Oh yes we made you this little bundle because we just know you're going to buy everything."

(Say that in the most smug down-the-nose-looking posh English accent that you can imagine... maybe find a way to add the word 'indubitably' in there somewhere)

I got the mega paint set a few years ago after deciding to make a go of painting all my collected minis and have to sa it was pretty handy to have all the paints you might require. It had all the brushes you might want too, which was nice. I agree this set is less for not having that simple addition.

Now I've not tried the new GW paints so won't comment on them but the card try box intrigues me. It solves one of my big problems with the case and foam trays in the old Mega set, the paint I want always seems to be in the bottom layer! (not really a fault with my set or lack of space and children with grabby hands!)

The price is an eye opener, allot more paint than the £130 i paid before; but I've got a few quid and baulk at idea of dropping £280 on paints - the paint for my house cost less than that!

I wish I had the type of cash that I could throw $450 away on a casual purchase.

I can't think of more than have a dozen paints that I use reguarly, maybe a dozen if I include the washes. I'd have to be out of my mind to make a purchase like the paint set just because of a shiny box. Seems like a completely absurd item to be pushing even for GW.

As for buying this... I am tempted. But I would need to see the case first.

I have already dropped a fair bit on Back2Base-IX racks, so this would need to be pretty good (I have hope, GW at least tend to do this stuff well).

I don't think I really have any intentions of buying this, but I am very much liking the box for paint storage... I'd definitely buy one if someone sold something along these lines, I much prefer this storage method to the various paint racks you can get now.

I could buy a nice Ipad for that price.

As far as the color coded drawers..you could do that yourself. Not saying this set isn't nice and convenient, because it is. But if I had to choose between this set and an ipad or someother $450 item, paint set loses.

It is a money saver, a single pot costs €3,-- around here. Buying the set as a whole for €370,-- would save €62,-- over buying them all separately, which is a nice discount, but as with the previous paint set I bought from them, back when it came in a metal suitcase, I'd only use a small amount of the paints. Pity really.

That is the main reason I have no want for it. At least 50% of the colours would never see use before they were no good

Why would you ever need all the paints? I have painted 5 different armies now and still only have about 40 total paints and washes.

I'd rather have a new army than all the paints. I wonder how many of these actually sell each year, they keep doing it so someone must be buying them.
