I have a 35 shooting Cultists in a unit and I was wondering which mark is better for them? I have put it down to either Mark of Nurgle or Mark of Tzeentch, or would it be better to go markless?

None. They are a throw away unit or a campers, neither of which encourages spending extra points on them.

Speaking of cultists, we bought my son the Chaos part of the Dark Vengeance set for Christmas and Im curious about the cultists. Are they good at being a tarpit unit? Im thinking I could save myself some cash and buy a bunch of "cultists" from other cheaper ranges to fill this roll nicely, so do they work well for that?

without fearless they arent much of a tarpit. With a lord, DA or special character they pit well but cost a lot and can lose it if the character dies.
They are best at being chaff to screen other troops or get ignored unitl late to grab objective. ss Automatically Appended Next Post: rockerbikie wrote:I have a 35 shooting Cultists in a unit and I was wondering which mark is better for them? marks are terrible value on cultists. if you ever are considering marking them just think you should buy more cultists instead

Well, none is the right answer. It will be waste of points if you field a large unit of Cultists. The only mark I can think of is MoN which makes them more durable decreasing casualties vs. bolters.

Wouldn't a cultist blob with the Apostle or Lord be a good CC screening unit? If they charge or get charged, the character could just declare a challenge to get a boon table roll.
|
I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

If the Lord/apostle bites it they lose fearless.
Cultists are pretty lackluster, that said though I don't complain when I use them w/ all autoguns. They put down enough shots to do a lil dmg.

i would use the cultist champion to take the challenge so that the lord or apostle can do some damage to the other side's squad
btw as chaos you MUST issue and accept challenges

So you can only use the boon table via challenges? Is that correct? (I dont have the dex so cant read on it) if so that sucks, because our group as a whole things challenges are the dumbest thing in 6th and therefore dont use it. We may have to change this thinking then.

No, while you are required to issue and accept challenges, the section on Boons only says that the champion must inflict the final wound. Could be shooting, melee, challenge, whatever.

To be fair, Chaos champs and HQs are really good at challenges, so it's not really a bad thing. You generally want to challenge enemy sargents, as you'll be winning against them, and a smart opponent will be forced to decline, taking his character out of the equation.
It does force you to equip your champs for duels though, which can be a bit annoying.
As for cultists, if you NEED to give shooting cultists a mark, only mark of Nurgle gives them a little more surviability. But generally, as everyone says, just go for more cultists.
For a meelee cultist unit with a Lord, marks make quite a difference. Mark of Khorne or Slaneesh particularly.

I think you missed the part where I said our group doesnt use the challenges because its a really stupid rule. So even if they are good at it, they wont be challenging in our games.
