The forgefiend has Ectoplasma Cannons, which are S8 Ap2 Blasts, but I wish there was a way to pay a few more points to upgrade the Plasma Guns for Chaos Space Marines so that they can have the Ectoplasma guns S8 Ap2 Rapid fire.

How much should an Ectoplasma upgrade cost? I think it should be Chaos Space Marine exclusive unless Ectoplasma already existed in other armies. Would there be any other rules to keep this powerful weapon balanced?

Seems like the upgrade would be kinda prohibitively expensive given how the prices like to go up by fives.

Beyond Gets Hot! like a normal plasma weapon? I'd think allowing Ectoplasma Rifles at +20pts in CSM squads would work.

ectoplasma cannons are 24" range instead of 36 like normal ones.

How about 18" Str8 AP2 rapid fire for the same cost as a regular rifle. (15)

The thing is though that the +1 strength means it can insta kill toughness 4 models (so ignore Feel no Pain) and also is a lot better at anti-tank.

Keeping it at the same cost seems wrong even with a range reduction.

The only way I could see it working is by making it have a serious drawback like:

Gets Way Hot!!
On a to hit roll of 1 or 2 the weapon overheats, causing a wound to the firer with no armour saves allowed.

I'd say if regular CSM soldiers can get an Ectoplasma gun it should be a high risk/ high reward weapon. Low cost, Strong anti-tank or some similar benefit, but instead of 'Get's Hot!' it should have some kind of Warp-flavored mishap.
like the ectoplasma gun explodes in a small blast template
or the soldier wielding an ectoplasma rifle that gets hot rolls on a mutation table to get a mutation that could be beneficial or harmful.
or that unit gets teleported d6 inches in a random direction on a scatter dice.
something crazy like that.

AP 2
Rapid Fire, Highly Violitile

Highly Violitile
This weapon is violitile, but resolve overheating using the large blast marker.




Ectoplasma Blaster (just to complete the set of Plasma)

think the large blast is a little much

also these cost more, have less range and are much more deadly, for +1 strenght

being volititle you could increase their range and decrease their cost.

I just want to point out, and I know how unlikely it is but still possible to get, the +1 S to a ranged weapon on the boon chart. Imagine a Combi-ectoplasma gun with that. You'd have a bolter with a rapid fire underslung snub-nosed lascannon.

It would be awesome to use highly volital ectoplasma guns as a kamikaze tactic cc, instead of normal attacks, they can detonated at models' int. With the small blast templet as the enemy is in base contact.
