More likely to go with the Coporation Zombies they put out last Halloween. Probably Campaign based.

God, I hope not. Please just let Mantic die a merciful death. Those models set the gaming industry back 20 years...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

We had heard 'space zombies' for the Plague race so possibly the first piece of art/concept for that?

I'd prefer they go back and remodel the Forge Fathers a little better but overall Mantics quality is improving. I'm looking forward to all the Kings of War stuff coming and for a possible late 2013 Warpath kickstarter.

Well, I believe that warpath KS is going to be launched soon after the KoW second wave is shipped; April-May or so. ScarletSquig et al might be able to pull up the more exact statement some of the mantic folk have made on their forum!
AFAIK that KS will partly rework existing races as well. not sure if basic FF are going to be reworked (though honestly, using the drakkarim add-ons makes for good enough space dwarves already - they might just go with a cheaper production method for those for a while...) but at the very least they'll get a lot more options (and I think mantic have learned their lesson as far as sci-fi-ing fantasy models by now - and besides, that warpath KS should go the same route as the KoW one in matters of sculpt quality).

Additionally, the Warpath 2.0 rules are brilliant. Here's a download link if you haven't read them already.
What they need at this point is a mountain of new, hard plastic models.
Yes, Dreadball is all-restic, but as a tiny board game, that works out well.
Need hard plastic for Warpath, we're all getting a bit tired of the hybrid metal/ restic stuff they've been releasing over the last year and want something better, closer to their original releases for KoW in quality terms but with the better sculpting standard they've slowly but surely been making happen over the years.
Anyway, to save everyone a click, I'll embed the image properly:
The background for The Plague is pretty straightforward - secret military medical experiment by the Corporation that went horribly wrong.

Seems nice, actually. Mantic's quality is always improving with their Elves line being very meh and their enforcers being great. Overall, any company that makes plastic miniatures in 28mm scale is welcome.
I'm happy that these space-zombies aren't rotting.

While i've been very happy overall with dreadball they do need to be a bit more hands on with QC for their offsite casters
From personal experience and comments in various places too many 'thick flash' and 'mould slip' models are slipping through... perhaps understandable given the short turn around for dreadball, they could hardly refuse things especially as run 1 was sold out as well as part of run 2.
But if the caster passed this stuff off this time they'll belive it's ok to do it again
I hope the extra time for all the new KoW units, Dreadball models and these Warpath ones gives Mantic the opportunity to do a bit of checking when things arrive at the warehouse

Absolutely agree with you there, whilst I here some people's mold lines on there DB figures were fine/non existent mine were horrendous! QC needs to tighten up IMO.

Wouldn't be so sure. the enforcers for example are easily on the same level as the vanguard infantry and might even match stylistically. The latter is, however, a problem in matching strain, I'd say. That's a rather distinctive aesthetic compared to the vanguard, who are really, really cool but basically your standard kind of 'sleek' high-tech armoured futuristic soldier guys. Don't see anything in this concept which would remotely fit with strain.
...Then again I remember a guy who was adamant he'd love a fethin' helbrute with his strain a month or two ago - de gustibus non disputandum etc

Which is everything that's wrong with the Warpath background in a single sentence. Mantic has no respect for the central villains of their setting, so they consistently portray them as personified incompetence tempered by moustache-twirling evil.
Marauders? Military experiment gone horribly wrong.
Plague? Military experiment gone horribly wrong.
Zz'or? Military mission gone horribly wrong.

I believe you tried to make some point that there's something wrong with that?
No seriously, the background will need work. Lots of it. For the time being though, I like it for comic relief and really I could care less for the background - let's get a decent bunch of minis and good rules running first for warpath, same way KoW is all grown up now; they can rewrite the friggin' background stories for the next edition (or the one after that, as far as I'm concerned!)
Really, how many folks are going to play because of stories as opposed to models/rules?

I buy lots and lots of models just based on the background. Heck, I hated Mantic's orcs until Scarletsquig posted some of their background on Warseer, and now I have more than 70 of them.
Also, I pretty much bought into Dreadball because of the flavor of the fluff.
And my first few GW purchases were Black Library novels, and now I have fousans and fousans of 'em lurvley models.
I'm afraid to touch the new Iron Kingdoms novels...

...Oookay, to each his own, I guess
Well, though AH has a bit of a point, it itsn't as simple as he makes it out to be - it might be how marauders got created but they have a bit of a personality distinct from that, too. Of course there isn't much background on Warpath atm yet, period, but that'll get better with the KS I guess

While the "Corporation screwed up" angle is indeed wearing a little thin, I'm happy with it for the Plague simply because it ties in nicely the Reavers from Firefly.
Hoping to see some kind of techno-barbarian faction made out of them, with survival and expansion of their "infection" being their primary motivations.
If they let Guy Haley or Jonathan Peace write the background, it'll turn out well, Alessio and Ronnie's background ideas so far just haven't made for very interesting fiction. The veer-myn are particularly bad, teenage mutant ninja turtles is basically their origin story.
I'd be quite interested in a backstory for the Plague as being an experiment in biological immortality for humans... one which worked, but had some unpleasant "side effects" which only came to light years later, with some angry immortal superhumans now on the loose and seeking to add to their ranks at any opportunity by capturing civilians and injecting them. That'd be a more interesting infection vector than "grraaagh brraaaainzzzzz".
Something along those lines would be great, or other transhumanist themes related to body modification. Perhaps the Plague started as an innocent experiment in gene therapy for creating beefier guards for dreadball? It doesn't have to be military-sourced, and they could even have a higher IQ than the average human as a result of the modification.
There's tons of good sci-fi on this topic, especially if you read Iain M Banks.
I do like that the concept art depicts something which isn't decomposing, and also appears to have some kind of sentience. This is a good sign as far as making them a believable threat goes.
Also, completely wild guess, but I *think* from the text on there, these guys might be introduced in a second PP expansion called Project Pandora: Deadzone.

If I ever actually play Warpath (rather than use them as proxies for 40k), I'll probably be ignoring the background. Or using the WP rules as proxy rules for battles in the 40k grimdark universe. /shrug
I did notice the header for the email was a Dreadball one, I wonder if it's a tongue-in-cheek lead in to a new DB Star Player?
Also, I think I already have this miniature's father...

The awesome thing about that will be that if they go with cheap thin (crappy) card for the tiles and box (as with PP and the DKH games, they'll be lambasted after upping their game with DB, and if they do in fact use better quality materials, they'll be lambasted (by someone, for sure) for not keeping those games consistent.

They've had the DB banner on the newsletters for a while now. If it is PP2 I really hope they don't go for the cheap thin card tiles as that REALLY let the game down!

Verrrryyy interesting.. ! Would be a nice way to introduce the new race, as has been said especially if they improve the board material (but then again you can pick up Pandora for £25, so I don't know what more you would expect really!)

For many of us, the 1990s were a golden age of gaming and Mantic hits that aesthetic perfectly. 20 years ago? Yes please!

They indeed are. I'm thinking of making a generic army list system to make it more universal rather than just being limited by army lists.

While this looks promising, I can no longer trust mantic to deliver on their concept art or their miniature quality. I will never back a Mantic KS again. Doesn't mean I won't buy their minis, but I want the protections of being a customer in the future.
They have some amazing sculptors, and they have some downright terrible ones... And whomever gets the "job" to sculpt the concept art could determine if the sight unseen model is amazing or goes right in the garbage like some of the dread all MVPs.
So who cares getting deep deep discounts on models when you risk many of them being terrible sculpts?
Combine that with QC issues from mold misalignment, bent models which need rehab and detail lost from "twisting" models off sprues, any modes you happen to like the sculpt may end up being damaged or need serious rehab.
I am super discouraged and not having the ability to "return my product for a refund" due to being defective is super discouraging and a drawback of Kickstarters.
I will have to wait for retail release for all future mantic models to first see if they are faithful renditions of the concept art, that the rush of the first wave isn't hurting production and that if the models suffer from flaws due to disassembly, mold issues or simply look bad in person, I have the ability to return and refund my money.
Live and learn... This is the risk of KIckstarter.

I'm a Mantic fan, but I've got to agree. I don't buy anything from Mantic until they get released and people get them in their hands, blog about them and make posts about them. Take for example, the metal add on parts for the Enforcers. I also saw their character necromancer (Malak or something) in person for the first time. It's flat and uninspiring, even though his art looks cool. Just like I did when I played WFB, I'll use Reaper for character miniatures.
If they do manage to execute well and the miniature looks like the concept art, it'll be great for head swaps. Just imagine it with a reptilian head or a just a huge eyeball where the neck-vein area is.
