What, second place for my little wrecked truck? Wow, thanks Bruticus... I didn't think i'd come in second, not after I saw Dave's scratchbuilt Corvega and Meades awesome ash waste crawler (or should that be land Titanic...)
Congrats to all who completed an entry and especially Meade and his amazingly realistic rusting hulk - are you sure you didn't just find a real one and take photos
I've really enjoyed this competition and it inspired me to actually finish a model - that's now 2 completed pieces in 2013, which is some sort of record... Roll on Meades competition

I agree. I've got 2 pieces I love to put out on the table (and my friends love having them). Keep the competitions coming!
Congrats Meade. Really Congrats to everyone. Thanks again for pounding out such great stuff. It really is inspiring to me.

thanks again guys! But no actually, it is a real vehicle. And I live inside. Too late though I already won !
I'm going to try to think up more ideas for a competition, but by all means please give suggestions if you have a good idea. The most important things I'm keeping in mind are bringing more people into it, by keeping it generic enough that everyone can participate and work it into their own projects, and keeping it terrain. Maybe make a poll?

Yes, slightly, but that's good! Don't be afraid of it. You can have 10 gloss coats, only one matte coat at the end will matter.

Well, I probably shouldn't post this in case I ever win a =]_= contest, but I do have some ideas... CD terrain - use those old and useless freebie CDs to make a piece of terrain - either the terrain is made from one or more CDs or the CD is the base and dictates the size of the terrain piece (height is unlimited) Yoghurt /pudding pot - use those old plastic yoghurt pots to make a piece of terrain 99p /99c store - find an item in a thrift shop that cost less than £1 / $1 / €1 etc and make it into a piece of terrain Ruins - make a piece of terrain that ties in with the theme of an army / gang but is ruined We're not worthy - make a place of worship for your table - could be a sacrificial altar, a monolithic standing stone (or ring of stones), a tree spirit (ala Pocahontas) or a gothic cathedral to the Emperor 3D art - find a piece of artwork depicting terrain/scenery and recreate it with your own twist - could also be a recreation of terrain from a movie or a video game Line of Sight - create a piece of terrain that can be used to block Line of Sight - either for a single figure or an entire regiment In the garden - Even Space Marines have a hobby... create a garden or an element to fit in a garden, could be a vegetable patch, a well, a scarecrow or lots of pots full of grimdark plants In the bunker - make a bunker for the army / gang of your choice Cork it - make a pice of terrain from cork (could be a sheet of cork, a wine bottle cork or any other cork you can fine (or a mixture of them all...) The Plasticard challenge - take a standard A4 (or US equivalent - Letter?) piece of plasticard and let your imagination run riot - only limit is you can only use the one sheet and nothing else (apart from paint and glue) Sprues everywhere - Finally, all those old used sprues you've been hoarding will get to be used... Make something great - whether a pile of rubble, a ladder, a barricade, or a house... The sprues do not need to be identifiable as such, but must be the basis of the terrain...

Hmm, that might be useful if I want to get back into painting with oils on minis.
@Ruglud.... thanks for the suggestions, actually two of those I was already contemplating, the 'We're not worthy' (I like the name), I was thinking of having some contest for shrines and statuary in general, and also the bunker/fortification one. Ruins contest would be good too, but awfully close to wrecked vehicles. And 'In the garden' would be too much like the previous shrubbery contest I think...
I'm thinking bunkers and fortifications... might have more of a popular appeal and is always fun but 'We're not worthy' might be a bit more challenging and unique... also potentially hilarious!
I have mixed feelings about the contests based on a single material... thing about that is, you have an and result where the entries are so diverse that it's wildly difficult to judge. Also while it's good to challenge people to use different media, hobbyists can often be very attached to certain kinds of materials. Plasticard... sprues... cds....the dollar store... for me at least these things are like bread and butter already... and I'm one of those believers that it's the end result that really counts, whether you make it out of trash or fancy expensive materials it's what you do with it that matters.

I used to think it was only useful for oil weathering too, but really, there is MORE! Soo much more!
1. It's the only way to erase film from decals without using stinky MicroSol and MicroSet.
2. A coat of future will make any future inks/washes pool around rivets and panel lines with 0% effort from you.
3. It creates a smooth surface for layered weathering without damaging/turning to mud previous layers
4. It's about 1000% cheaper by volume than any brand of clear you can buy and available at your local supermarket
5. Out of the bottle, it's very subtle, but you CAN thin it even further if you wish with water, alcohol, thinner, whatever you prefer.
6. Chemically, it's just clear acrylic.

Yoghurt /pudding pot - use those old plastic yoghurt pots to make a piece of terrain
99p /99c store - find an item in a thrift shop that cost less than £1 / $1 / €1 etc and make it into a piece of terrain
Ruins - make a piece of terrain that ties in with the theme of an army / gang but is ruined
We're not worthy - make a place of worship for your table - could be a sacrificial altar, a monolithic standing stone (or ring of stones), a tree spirit (ala Pocahontas) or a gothic cathedral to the Emperor
3D art - find a piece of artwork depicting terrain/scenery and recreate it with your own twist - could also be a recreation of terrain from a movie or a video game
Line of Sight - create a piece of terrain that can be used to block Line of Sight - either for a single figure or an entire regiment
In the garden - Even Space Marines have a hobby... create a garden or an element to fit in a garden, could be a vegetable patch, a well, a scarecrow or lots of pots full of grimdark plants

that list is winning material...
out of the lotsa cool ideas... the "we are not worthy" and the sprue and A4 challenge with Plasticcard idea are the coolest...
actually... the A4 is such a cool scientific way to have totally even oportunities...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop... you had me at, "only way to erase film from decals".
that's an annoyance for me. Will definitely pick up a bottle...
So far there seems to be some agreement for "We're not worthy"?
Reason why I'm not a fan of anything that limits materials or is based on one material or technique... w/e it may be, just reminds me too much of an annoying art school assignment where it would be, make a sculpture using only cardboard, empty coffee cups or some other random but clever material. Just my personal opinion though But there could be bonus points for being creative materials... or being creative in general... in the judging. Kind of like a secondary mission. In a way there already is because just buying a kit, is kind of boring unless all the coolness is in the painting or weathering techniques.

I'll vote in favor of a shrine as well if the subject is up for vote. Because I need another 1/2 finished project junking up my back room.

what no half finished shrines back there? In any case your city terrain could use a ruined or desecrated statue or two Automatically Appended Next Post: MauS wrote:How bout a garbage competition? I've always wondered what happened to all the waste in the 40K universe...

I actually considered that as well... but it's probably good to keep in mind for the future, when the contests get more consistent high number of entrants you can do weirder stuff. In any case the board I'm working on is part junkyard... I like to keep all the waste products from my scratchbuilding and re-use it in scrap heaps, put quite a bit around the crawler.
