Questionable is being exceptionally generous. That was a pretty pathetic dive by Doughty on an already whistled dead play. Glad to see the Blues overcame that set back.

Didn't get to watch the Anaheim-Detroit game, again. Sucks that they start play at 930pm our time, and my day starts at 0400am.
Glad to see the tally though. Lots of Duck fans complaining about the officiating. Seeing 3 of 5 of Detroits goals as being PPG's, including the game winner, I can understand why.

You take your dirty Habs love elsewhere Craig Anderson is a BEAST. I don't think he's in goal tonight, I believe it's Lehner, so you guys might just be able to scrape a win against us tonight

It pisses me off when they eject a player for a clean hit. They did it to Kronwall a few years ago. Because the guy who received the hit was unaware of his surroundings, and got laid the hell out, they take it out on the guy who played within the bounds of the rules.
I hope Eller recovers quickly, and this isn't career ending for him. I heard he'll need reconstructive jaw surgery.

The announcers on CNBC (clearly Habs announcers) were talking about how it shouldn't have been a 5 minute major for interference, since Eller had the puck (it hit his stick). The problem was is that he had his head down, had Eller had his head up, he would have taken the hit to the shoulder/chest... Oh well :-\... Though the Sens destroyed the Power Play, I was expecting 2 goals at least from the Habs... and then the 5 on 3... that was a nail biter last night.

Why were they blacked out? O.o
because the current owner's late father used to own the team. Bill Wirtz was the Hawks’ president for 41 years, was adamant in the belief that televising home games wou;dn't be fair to season-ticket holders. So he never let the rights to the home games out to any TV stations. It was hot garbage. The first home hawks game I say on TV was November of 2007, It was a great day. Game 2 Blackhawks/Wild tonight at 8 central, should be a great game again. djones520 wrote:Didn't get to watch the Anaheim-Detroit game, again. Punishing the result and not the action. Same old same old from league discipline.
Brown should be serving a suspension for his cheap shots last night but his victims weren't seriously hurt so "no harm no foul"
Instead Gryba sits for a clean hit because it knocked the player out.

Eh, the inclusion of "targeting" leaves Rule 48 open to a lot of interpretation, and the punishment of results is pretty common across all sports (in the playoffs its also a means of protecting the offending player). Really it should just pertain to any hit in which the head is the principle point of contact.
Eldarain wrote:

In part, the other part is that Gryba was ejected for the hit.

I haven't had any viruses from it... just make sure your flash player is up to date before you actually attempt to watch anything... My buddy's wasn't, and he clicked on the "update" link... And Detroit now on the receiving end of heavy handed calls on big hits...
We'll see if Shanahan dicks us over now.
Edit: On further exam, it does look like Abdelkader screwed the hit up. He certainly put Detroit into a real tight spot now.

Feth me... Curse you NHL, it was a clean but hard hit!
About the hit and ensuing suspension:
Personally, as both someone who's officiated hockey AND played competitively for almost 20 years, it was the right call to make.
Sure, back in the 80's and 90's we wouldn't have blinked at such a play because our attitudes were much different. We were all of us pretty ignorent of just how traumatic head injuries *really* are, the players were not as big and as fast as they are in today's game AND the equipment was not completely lethal!!!
Nowadays, we have a much better understanding of how these violent, high impact collisions & hits are in fact potentially life changing. We also have the checking to the head rule, meaning players are now being educated and taught not to take a guy's head off, wether he seemingly deserves it for being a putz for having his head between his knees while skating up open ice!
If anything, the NHL needs to bring in a rule to ensure that players who are put into a vulnerable position - wether by theirs or a teammate's own stupidity, (as what happened to Eller with the suicide pass of doom), or because of a collision with another player.
At the very least, make it illegal to cream the guy while his head is still down! Give the player a second or two to at least pick his head up, and thus protect himself from the inevitable hit.
But seeing guys getting knocked out cold and being stretchered off the ice is not something we need more of, or to encourage for any reason.

The onus truly is on the NHL to make a proper ruling on checking to the head. This current environment where head checking is against the rules... unless you get a piece of his body is terrible. Things change in a split second in this game.

I'm not arguing the ejection from the game, it was a massive hit that injured a player, I'm arguing the suspension. I get that hockey is a fast sport, people get hit all the time. It's rough and violent, and injuries happened. Taking a puck to the mouth, getting a stick wrapped around your neck, and being flattened happen. Gryba's hit was hard, I'm not arguing that at all. Like I said, had Eller had his head up, he wouldn't have been hit in the head, and probably would have just been laid out for a bit instead of spinning and hitting the ice as he did. To suspend Gryba 2 games because of another player's inability to watch his surroundings, and I realize at those speeds, Gryba probably wasn't going to be slowing down at all... it just smacks of heavy handed officiating. Eject him from the game for causing an injury to a player, and be done with it. I mean the 5 minute major was rough enough...
