@Bonecrusher6 , yeah , I think the grey stripes were a mistake , should've stuck with plain desert yellow or the "pea dot" cam ( a bit like Choc chip cam, but green ....)

I appreciate your last comment , its the look I was going for , and I hate parade ground shiny. So , thanks very much !

Great job! always nice to see some camo on the board!

You know what i think really 'makes' these marines? it's the expert use of colours, the light blue turquoise for the glow and the lenses is the perfect choice for the more subdued armour and it makes them really look something special, I've enjoyed everything so far and am looking forward to even more!

But in all honesty I really like this, great overall scheme, execution and especially weathering! I like that grungy hard beaten look they all have!

These models look really great. I'm guessing you are using airbrush for the camo, as far as I can see without masking. As others have said, your weathering is great, it makes the models look so much more believable, especially combined with the more sensible color scheme.

I've refused to paint hazard stripes on my Iron Warriors. "Watch out for my chain sword edge, it's dangerous!" seems a bit counter-productive. Of course one can always argue the shock value of Astartes in your face, even if they are sporting bright pink with bunny ears. That shouldn't apply in any serious engagement, since both xenos and other space marines are quite unlikely to be susceptible to said Astartes-phobia. ;-]

@ Stephanius , thanks mate , yes , airbrush for the vehicles without any masking to get that nice "soft" edge.

I've just got a smaller needle for my airbrush so will be trying it on some figures in a week or two as well.

Good point about the yellow and black hazard stripes , other than showing the skill level of the painter they are incredibly pointless !

I'm largely done with these , there are a few highlights on the bronze colours missing , as I don't have the paint ATM. And probably a few more details I'll add later , but for now, working under a crappy desk lamp that attracts all the midges for miles around on a wonky chair , these will do !

Green is cool choice of color for Osl for these guys. It isn't exactly complementary so it clashes with the armor a bit. In fact these are close colors on the color wheel (i like talking about the color wheel) so that they really pop next to each other. Otherwise you have the effect basically down.My suggestion is to darken down some of the more mid areas of the glow like you did on the power axe (maybe with a glaze).

Very interesting blog; subbed

Thanks for the comments Largeblastmarker , I'm aware of the colour wheel and of how colours compliment or clash but I have to admit I just choose the green/blue OSL because I thought it looked cool !

Thanks for the tip , as most of my technique / style is basically glazes and washes ( for everything not just OSL) I'll do as you suggest , I really want to nail "realistic" OSL and then work on my skin tones , which I feel is a weak area too.

I"m much more comfortable with armour, next couple of Landraiders / Baneblade will get some proper colour modulation effects going on !

Thanks for the sub ! Hope you like whats coming !

Also really liking the Anvil Stuff!
Also you can contact Anvil Industry and ask him if he has any plans to adding torsos on his black-ops stuff. He probably say no. But he does have steam lords with multiple sets of torsos.

@radioaktivemann and Asherian Command , thanks guys.

I've asked Joel at Anvil to make the Black Ops bodies separate from the legs as I really have to pose each mini differently but he's in no rush to cast them up. I'll just have to make do for a bit till I use up all the possible options I suppose.

Your models are looking amazing and i could never do what you have, but you seem to be after some criticism.

I am no expert painter, but what I think really makes your models 'pop' is the physical grit and dirt you had on the first few. Your later models have been very smooth, albeit with amazing weathering, but they are not as gritty as before. Maybe making them more so will make them 'pop' even more.

Just my two cents though. I might be completely lost......

Dude , if you have two hands and two eyes you can do what I have ! Honestly, I am no artist or college boy , if you knew all the jobs I'd done you wouldn't think twice about "Yeah , I can do that" in fact , thats how I taught myself, with the military modelling magazines thinking "Yeah , I could do that"
I'm afraid the gaming magazines generally offer poor painting advise compared to the military stuff.

You have a point , its something I had noticed too , I will work harder on my grit and dirt !

Wow nicely done. You picked a scheme that actually looks good on the models. I have tried BDU and Summer Oak camo on marines and it flat out failed. For some reason the darker camo patterns just doesn't cut it on marines, but look fine on Tau and IG. The lighter colored ones usually look great. One of my local guys here also has a Raptors company in a Fall-like pattern and like yours his look good too with all the weathering. I guess the darker patterns just do too good a job on hiding things and they look like ugly blobs.

My only criticism is the OSL and a general peeve with a lot of marine painters with OSL and Sci-fi in general. These guys are camo'd up to be unseen, why would they have they bright lit up eyes and buttons that would give them away? Furthermore, I understand why Hollywood does it(so you can see the actor's face), but really, bright lights inside the helm? Wouldnt that pretty much blind the wearer?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

You raise some interesting points ref. Darker Cam patterns , I've been toying with ideas for Cam on my Nurgle marines and havn't found anything any good yet !

I wholeheartedly agree with you ref. OSL and big lit up weapons , Yes, its beyond dumb , but my son wants them "all glow-y" !
