A taint biome starts out as "Eerie". Also even without F3, when you step into an Eerie chunk, the sky turns purple, even if the taint is not very bad. Although it can be hard to spot that change at night.

Speaking of Thaumcraft, 4.1 has a new research system (no more shuffling runes around!) and various other improvements:

Not sure if it's just my internet or my aging computer but there seems to be a bit of consistent lag when I play on the new server.

I remember running FTB Unleashed pretty smoothly. This lag is akin to all those times someone build something that was spitting out too many items.

Any ideas?

I've claimed the three villages at [140,1900], [250,2050], and [680,2100], as well as the landmass between them. I intend to demolish the thin borders around the frozen lake beneath the closest floating island, melt the ice path, and build an actual bridge across the ice, possibly with a gate on the other side, but with no claims staked on that particular landmass other than that.

I also do not lay claim to any of the landmass beyond a reasonable distance - perhaps 50 blocks or so of breathing room, although I do plan for a wall to be built across the thinnest section of the bottleneck, so don't set up very close if you don't want to be staring at one - past the bottleneck of land just South of the third village I claimed. I do, however, wish to exert claims over the oil field just beneath the second village, and the one South-South-East of it, as well as the aforementioned floating island.

I eliminated my lag by increasing my RAM in the launcher to 3GB.

Sounds promising, how do I go about doing that?

EDIT: Scratch that, I think I figured it out. Just go to the options tab on the launcher and move the little slider, right?

You can de-Eerie-ify Taint biomes- Silverwood trees with Pure Nodes will slowly transform the area around them into Magical Forest biomes, and Shimmerleaf flowers (gotta use shears on them) will reverse Taint, I think.

One downside of having so many new blocks is trying to figure out what combinations work well for things.

It's like trying to decide on paint swatches, carpet, or tiles.

Almost correct, Shimmerleaves stop the spread of taint
An item (that needs to be researched) made of shimmerleaves does reverse taint

EDIT: Anything that changes biomes will also help (terraformer, Grand Ritual of Gala's Transformation... etc). The taint will need to be removed by hand, though (or by quarrying the area and rebuilding it)

After a fair amount of self-deliberation, I've managed to narrow the choice down to just the 4 you see in the bottom-left corner - Chiselled Aligned Cobblestone Bricks with GeoStrata Limestone Bricks; Chiselled Detailed Cobblestone Bricks with GeoStrata Limestone Bricks; Chiselled Aligned Cobblestone Bricks with GeoStrata Marble Bricks, and Chiselled Detailed Cobblestone Bricks with GeoStrata Marble Bricks:

After doing a small test tower-build, I've also decided on the right-hand limestone-brick wall.

I'm glad to be done with choosing materials.

I know this isn't server related but whenever I try launch the direwolf20, horizon and pretty much any 1.6.4 modpacks, the mojang comes up for maybe 30 seconds and it instantly crashes. the ultimate pack is working fine

error note is:
Error: Could not create java machine
Error: A fatalexception occurred.

Delete all the files for the problem packs. Then reinstall.

Or delete system32.

I seem to have lost two of my five BackPack mod Backpacks. What was in them, you ask? Oh, just 13 Emerald Blocks, all my Diamonds and more bits and pieces.

Not for Forge based mods and mod packs, no. If you delete META-INF when using Forge, it breaks Forge (as far as I'm aware).

Though if death is a constant thing for you, then Ender Pouches would definitely be the best, since the inventory is saved even if the bag is destroyed or lost.

Hey dark, are you able to tele me to spawn? I think Iv bred too many villagers at my altar and now when I log in there I hear a bunch of villagers and then crash.

Either that or you could just kill of a bunch of villagers, whatever is easiest.

Sweet thatd be good, my place is just near spawn on the water, the villager spawner is the cobble thing at the back of the altar, no idea how many villagers are in there now.
