I don't see blue dots.

I see all Earth tones. Greens, browns, tans

I see what you might call blue, but it's really more of a darker green/grey or something. And then browns tans, greys. I know where the boat is, but cannot see it no matter how I look at it

Alright I managed to get a bit of work done tonight. It isn't much, and I'll be unable to do much more this weekend, but.. something.

Started working on my Moran and my Reverend Moira convinced me to finish her up as well. I've gone a bit further off the default color scheme, but I'm ok with that. Basically I've transplanted all of the red/orange that crops up in the official scheme with blue, and decided to give her a quasi-dracula cape instead of the white-lined version. The Moran got his blue and grey, he's actually probalby closer to done than the Moira, just a bit of leather straps, a wee bit of flesh, and some highlights. And glowey lens things, but those always come last.

Damn Becky...

So I wanted to try a different skin tone for her. I was going for something of a medium tone, not Indian, not African in origin (like I'll try for the Moran), a little lighter... maybe something South American? I dunno though, the pictures turned out pretty dark, but I'll try to work it out with highlights before I dip. What about the cloak? I'm not going back to white, and grey like the outside seems boring, but should I keep it more orange like it is, or bring it back closer to red with some washes/glazes? I think it still needs another couple of light coats of orange anyway, but its enough to give you the idea. The moran doesn't look as finished as I think he is. Most of the backpack and those parts of his arms and chest are going to be white so aside from touchups I'm leaving that to the dip, it's much more subtle than I am. Oh the moira needs her boots painted grey. I'm trying to use a lot of not-metal for my Infinity models, with actual metallics used sparingly for certain parts of guns and belt buckles (cause it's easier to paint belt buckles silver than to paint them black plastic and highlight them =/... not that the nicely done Infinity minis don't have well highlighted metallic or NMM buckles, but I'm only human here).

The Koalas need more coats of orange and grey, but aside from that they won't get a lot more attention. A glow for the eyes and possibly on their backs in a couple of teeny spots and that's it, they are walking bombs, they don't get as many frills as their full time counterparts.

Thoughts, suggestions? I can probably get them both done with just another hour or two, though if it takes longer I don't mind.

Gag, those are much blurrier than I would have expected, maybe I was in the wrong mode. Oh well, I'll get you much better shots when they're done.

Lol, they're project bricks, I found them at Michaels. They could be neat, but they really aren't my favorite material. All of my other pincushion type things were occupied

Thanks for popping by guys, I'm hoping to get them done soon, then it's SRS business LoER project thing and diorama, both due in August. The dwarfs may have to get shelved for a bit, or at least shunted down in priority.

As soon as I get something done though, and the nails get freed up... I'm gonna toss every Infinity mini I have on to them for painting time. Eventually. Lot to do until the middle of august. Then one more thing, but it's Infinity related (just won't update it here for...reasons), to do up to november but it shouldn't take that long. Should definitely be busting out *something* after the middle of august.

Of course... it could be Mars Attacks! minis. Deadzone should come in before that, and then MA and my battlesystems stuff should hit around the same time. Might even have an option to pick up the MA stuff at Gencon, potential woot! And who knows, maybe that upcoming Infinity starter thing will be available at Gencon, or sometime this year. Looking forward to that.

I wound up with a bunch of interesting skin tones from reaper paints

Hmm. I may have to look back into reaper paints sometime. I nabbed a few a while back. I've always liked the pairing of a couple of their grays. I find them a bit too runny for me though, I know they're for layering and stuff... and as I get into painting fewer minis better, their value will go up. I just remember trying to paint a salamanders drop pod with one of the greens over black... That was a hell of a lot of surface to have to put down 10 or better coats... I've learned better now.

Got a bit more work done on the two infinity minis on my painting tray. Getting close to having done with all of the base coats, starting to look at highlights. Tried the eyes. Almost... Remembered to paint them all black then create the dot by putting whites on the edges, instead of trusting my hand to perfectly center (or off center) both dots on the same mini. But I forgot to do the eyes before I did the layers of the face, so now it's kind of like making a couple of smaller dots instead of one central one, instead of having it easy and just blasting either side of the black eye and not worrying about collateral damage on the as yet unpainted face. The next minis, I may do the eyes before I do a single other thing, just because of this. Still, I should be able to get them next time, and I'm getting closer...

My next project won't be updating here for...reasons, but I'll probably be doing some other stuff on the side that will show up here as usual.

Hmm... Been looking for things on which to spend my amazon store credit. They have Infinity minis on Amazon, a couple of different people sell them. The prices are not excellent, Miniature Market and eBay are almost always cheaper, but I don't have a balance on accounts at those sites... SO yeah I was browsing and saw these guys, and remembered how much I like them:

Kaplan (tiger) tactical services.

They're basically mercs, but sort of honorable ones, and they look badass IMO. They belong to the Haqqislam faction which isn't my favorite. Theres a subfaction of Haq called Kapu Qualqi which is a mercenary group and has access to some Nomad units. Nothing I already have... but those same guys are also selling the vanilla nomad starter on amazon and 4/6 models in it are accessible to KQ. I don't love the models as much as I do my Bakunin guys... but they aren't bad at all.

It's also possible that several of those models may get resculpts and make their way into the new operation Icestorm starter box, which I am already considering as a purchase.

If I pick up the 5th Kaplan sculpt and add four nomad models, I only need one more dude. I was looking at these:

Either of the middle and background models, one is a sniper, the other a hacker.

There are other cool Haqqislam models I could branch out into later. I'm dredging up comments and advice on the CB:Infinity subforum to see what people think about viability.

Just ordered the Kaplans, weird ordering something not prime eligible. Sounds like I've got a lot of good options for splicing stuff with them to make a list.

Oh wow yeah, maybe that's why I like the Kaplans so much. I gave up and ordered them today. Then I found out instead of just 68 dollars of amazon rewards, they'd finally rolled over the last month or two and bumped me to 85 dollars. That's a another box and an individual at least with what's left after the Kaplans, but I've got to wait for them to put up something I want to spend the points on.

Got rained out today, and we have to pay for baby's daycare whether we use it or not.. so as soon as the rain downgrades from torrential to something a bit more reasonable, I'll be in full on hobby mode for several hours.

Mantic is also having a sale... crap.

Heh, damn companies after my hard earned monies!

Man just watched an airbrush NMM tutorial and I really want to make my Moira extra awesome by doing it, but I'm not going to risk marring her nearly completed paint job while airbrushing the sword (even masking to protect her may mess something up)... so I guess next time. I'll try something by hand instead.

I've been meaning to take a look at your stuff.

I like the airbrush, it's a neat tool and for things I understand, it can help save a lot of time.

The very best work always seems to be by brush (unless we're talking about some of the amazing things people do with airbrushes on vehicles), but I'm not that good and will crutch on whatever can help me move forward

I think my two infinity minis are ready to dip, gonna go shake up the can and test it on a dwarf first... it didn't seal properly last time and had some chunky bits curing near the top. I want to make sure the consistency of whats left inside is viable before I ruin a few hours worth of work. Can of new dip doesn't cost more than the hours I've put into these guys

Those kaplan guys remind me of Half life 2 as well. Other dudes have a serious phantom of the opera vibe going on, consider that if you get them.

It makes them even cooler, on both counts.

Woot! Got a new can of dip and dipped everything I was working through, plus a dwarf. The dwarf kind of brings up an issue... he looks nothing like the last two incarnations of dwarf. The Tudor is very neutral and doesn't taint the underlying color nearly as much as the mahogany. So now he's bright yellow instead of dirty orange yellow. I'll see what you guys think. It can definitely work, but I'll have to eventually redo the other guys. Of course, the warpath kickstarter should have all new hard plastic infantry for the major factions so repaints/changes may be in order regardless.

So, I think the dwarf looks ok, just different. The Koalas are alright given the amount of effort they got (figured walking bombs don't rate as much work ). I'll get into this more later, after I've sealed and based but I think the Moran came out as well as he could given my abilities and the choices for color and technique. I may go back over his knife with silver, it's rather dull, but really I'm quite happy with the model. I think my moderator got some kind of special stars lining up kind of thing that made him look better than I can usually paint, but I am quite happy with the Moran. The Moira, ehh. I'm pretty happy with her, I'm not going to repaint her or anything and she looks better than most of the other stuff I've done lately... but something about her just doesn't feel quite right. Maybe it's the color scheme, or perhaps I just didn't do her enough justice. Maybe it's the black, the white on these guys seems to come out really well and she has very little.

Don't get me wrong, I put a reasonable amount of effort into the Moira, and I think she looks pretty sweet. All of the glowey eye parts and other light sources will get retouched later on, probably during a session where I catch up several models worth of them all at once. The Moira's cloak got a basecoat, and two rounds of highlights (most of the grey on either model did) as well as the dip. The sword.. well I wanted to NMM it with the airbrush but I wasn't going to risk my paintjob even to masking tape/putty damaging it. Her skin tone lightened up a bit and is right about where I want it, the Moran's too (but his is darker, like I wanted it )

Tudor is like magic for white. All of the white on these guys was single layer (the undercoat, with touchups only where necessary to correct errors from other steps) with a dip, but it looks better than white I've tried to layer up from black and so on. I could have added some more color to the Moran's backpack. I think it looks ok how it is, but if it ever starts to bug me, I shouldn't have trouble sorting it out.

The one thing that I didn't do on either of these guys that I did for my Moderator, and intended to do for all of my Infinity minis, was a bit of free hand or some other personal touch. The Moderator got two tattoos and fancy sneakers. I guess the Moira got green lipstick but you just about can't tell. I guess maybe her dracula cape counts but I'm pretty sure that's going to be standard equipment for my Sin Eaters. Though I'm 'thinking of doing the outside white, the studio models are that way and white turns out really well with this dip. The Moran has no cool features. Maybe when I go through and do touchups/enhancements I'll put some tally marks on his combirifle or something. I know I'm going to try for a moderator logo tattooed on the arm of my moderator with multi sniper rifle. Not sure about the rest aside from my power puff girls themed robots (only one robot now, but there's a pair of them I'm look at getting eventually).

Ok enough blathering on. One last image before I go.

These things are like a quarter at Lowes. I'm not sure of what to do with them yet, but I know there has to be something I can use them for. I'm just not sure what. Some kind of small building, or perhaps a structure to go on the roof of a building. Maybe a group of them to make some kind of power plant or something. I'm just not sure yet, but I know for a buck I can come up with something pretty cool using those.

Finally a notice, my next painting project won't show up on this thread until late august, though you shouldn't have any trouble finding it if you look I'll probably continue to work on the dwarfs inbetween sessions for that project, as well as working on getting more Infinity minis set up and ready to paint.

Thanks for watching
