Exactly that.

I've asked about this on the KoW page before when I wanted to use my models for both AoS (very big round bases) and KoW, and people get REALLY upset when you talk about changing base sizes even a few mm... it seems to be taboo.

Those people are feth wits. That kind of behaviour is a form of self-identification warning that provides a signal to the rest of us that they're best avoided. Like the black and yellow stripes on a bee or wasp.

I'm happy to take this:
Exceptional Base Sizes
You may need a wider or deeper base for
exceptionally large heroes, monsters or war
engines – in such rare cases, use the smallest
base that you can fit your model on.

...and apply commonsense to it. In the same way is described in Pages 14-16 of Hail Caesar or 12-13 of Black Powder.

Exactly. If the base is larger towards the back who cares. The only time it would come into play would be with someone cheating on movement by measuring front to back (had a friend who played dwarves in third edition who tried this all the time , when his dwarves were moving faster than my knights something was up).

Like my Raging heroes commissar sisters, they would look like their ankles broke is put on a smaller base, I had 40mm bases available for them, Maybe if there were at the time the 32mm bases, I might have used them, but heck they are heroic gals.

Those are people you avoid playing with. A few mm extra doesn't make a difference.

Always good to have storage space underneath . The cityscape looks great already, just needs more zombies.

Hey, Battlezones! Just what I've been waiting for!

That's a pretty nifty table. It must be nice to have a permanent surface to play on.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

@Theo there are lots of zombies, not a huge number but enough for at least one quarter And that's just a random hodgepodge of buildings that are done. I need to do a lot more BZ scifi city, knock together the 20th century redbrick with the damaged sections to use for TNT, and receive my battle systems pledge for a nice big contemporary town.

Need to make the second board and the mega-shelves too so I can clear up all the sawdust and put an extra rug someone was throwing away at work (work for enough wealthy people and you come across occasional gems that they just don't want any more...you also come across people who think they're being benevolent and doing you a favor by letting you haul away their junk.. it's a mixed bag ) down on the concrete so it's not so cold in the winter. Also because then I can get some of those furniture skid pad things and scoot the boards around even easier than now.

I'm hopeful that I can get the height right on the second board to match the first. I can measure twice before I cut once...but I'm still prone to not getting that 100%

@ Josh, still nothing too fun yet though, just stuff I've already had laying around. I should be building some redbrick battlezones before terribly long and I would like to work on some scifi stuff too. I have soooo many battlezone tiles and bits laying around I need to turn them into terrain before the ghost of their lack of progress materializes and starts haunting me!

I haven't actually gotten to play on the surface yet, not even when it was a 4x8 sheet of OSB sitting on an air hockey table. Well, a couple of games of X-wing, anything else was just solo battle reports.
But yes, I think it will be nice. Especially having the two boards but rarely needing them both at the same time (maybe KoW, possibly Warpath down the line..everything else is 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4) because that will mean I can leave a couple of different games set up at the same time if I'm so inclined.

I guess technically I could always use bottom storage as some kind of sub-board to the top board, like a spaceship on top and a planet below, or sewers, or etc. Kinda low to the ground to actually play on though, most likely better for scenery storage.

Table looks good. Have you thought about adding a lip around the top? Something to prevent stuff from rolling off easily, and to protect the edges of the top.

Undertable storage is a good thing. Those are not 2x4's. what dimension are the boards?

I wish you many, many hours of fun with it

Thanks guys.

Those are totally 2x4s. At least that's what the store said. Obviously they're a touch leaner than true 2" x4" but I'm pretty sure they're regular old 2x4 studs. Top board is theoretically 48x48" however playable surface is more like 48x47" since they make the one end shorter expecting builders to be connecting them with those little tongue and groove bite on the sides.

Bottom part is...less? There was measuring but I've already forgotten.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So I checked the tag, 2x4x96" select stud. Actual measurement is very close to 1.5x3.5 inches, possibly slightly less.

No worries, my sense of scale must be off then. I blame the allergy meds A 2x4 is really 1 3/4" x 3 1/2". I ended up using a pair of 1/4" mdf sheets ( 2' x4') for the table top I did. And floor tiles too, to make it look like a red desert. It worked. Really heavy though.

Thanks ToT.

I think I'm gonna use ceramic times as the base for my TNT board. The table is plenty sturdy to support them and I like the mix of permanence and modularity of 16 square foot tiles.

Not where I should be

Timbercation.....

2 x 4 is the sawn size, if you have a plained finish they have taken off a portion for plaining on all sides. This varies but usually you loose 1/4 to 1/2 inch. It is usually still sold as 2 x 4 though.
In the UK we have adopted and adapted the metric system, whilst maintaining the Imperial, so we have 100mm x 50mm sawn, with 90 x 45 plained. All messed up if you ask me. You used to buy boards in 8' x 4' sheets, now it is metric so 2440mm x 1220mm, not quite 8' x not quite 4' (it is very close, but is noticable.) Why the heck they did not just bite the bullet and go 2400 x 1200 or even better 2m x 1m is beyond me.Amazing how all builders work in 8' x 4' still today.

Your boarding will be 48" wide, they take into account the tongue and groove in manufacture.

Oh and interesting fact, probably not relevant anywhere outside the UK, the Ford Transit (British Standard Builders Van) the back has always been designed to take an 8' x 4' (British Standard Sheet Size) board exactly between wheel arches and bulkhead to rear door.

Back on subject, excellent table, looks nice and sturdy. Ceramic tiles are a good idea, especially as you can mix it up a bit with 4", 6" or 1" mosaic tiles as well.

That table is a nice small fight scale one! But there may be a day of epic scale needing the bigger table, that would be a lot of terrain!

Thanks. Those are the inadvertently kickstarter exclusive mars attacks paper mats. Not so much KSE as they simply came with kickstarter packages since they were promised but weren't seen at retail after the mats got upgraded to neoprene.

Man that dark souls KS is blowing up all over the place. Never played the games so dunno a thing about it.

Got the main structure for the second half of the board built. Need to do the storage area/leg supports. Then the shelves. Then the makeshift carpeting and furniture sliders. Then my game room will be nearly complete muahahaha.

They've been sleeping under the rubber mats for weeks to flatten them 'mostly' out.

Second board is almost done. Just gotta attach the bottom bit. Boards are within 1/8 maybe less of an inch of each other. Once I get the rug/carpet sorted I can find tune the heights by adding a shim here or there between the legs and their slider pad things.

Need to do shelves before that though. I had a thought. Was gonna do all shelves with the flat board on top but I think I will flip at least one so as to have a shelf with slightly smaller surface area but 3+ inch high walls making it more secure for wee bits of scatter.

Looks like attaching that bottom piece largely sorted the slight height difference. Must have balanced the legs a bit.

Anyhoo I may do some sanding to ward away splinters...but my board is pretty well finished. I could paint it or stain it maybe...but for now we're good. Aesthetically the woodwork is far from amazing but its solid and functional.

I'll have to do a big set up at some point but I'm gonna hold off till I've got the room sorted out.
